  • I have dinner at 5 pm and go out for a 3 mile run around 7 pm.
  • Down 2.2 lbs! I was much better than I've been in a LOOOOOONG time about logging ALL of my food - I have a bad habit of neglecting to log anything I eat after dinner, but this week I made a real effort to do it.
  • I drink water and seltzer (plain or the flavored kind without sweeteners) for the most part, but enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. I use unsweetened cashew milk for my breakfast protein smoothie, so I think that counts, too. I stopped drinking soda when I was pregnant with my first child (I had loved Coke Zero up to that…
  • I switched from regular cigarettes to mint flavored e-cigs earlier this year, and am now transitioning to gum as a replacement for the e-cigs. It hasn't been hard so far, but I am not sure when I will finally, completely cut the cord.
  • My cousin works at McDonald's and after a few weeks she was really turned off by everything on the menu there. She indulged in too much free food when she first started, and now she never touches any of it. Maybe once the novelty wears off, you won't be tempted, either. In the meantime, bring healthier snacks that you do…
  • I wouldn't expect the weight to keep coming off that quickly, but it would give me motivation to see such progress.
  • I would forgive myself for getting off track and remind myself that this is a lifelong process (loss and maintenance), and not a one-and-done deal, so there really is no ending and starting over.
  • I buy food based on price and how it looks/freshness. Sometimes I buy the organic produce from Trader Joe's, but when I do that I have plans to eat it within a day or two b/c it tends to go bad faster in my experience. I have read a number of studies and don't really see much, if any, benefit to buying organic, so I don't…
  • Hi, I am a 41 year old working mom (with a SAHD husband). We have two boys, ages 2 and 4. My goal is to lose between 35 and 40 lbs - not sure yet on exactly how much b/c I my weight hasn't been that low since law school. So far, I have found that I do well when I have the bulk of my calories at dinner, because my husband…
  • Not true. I am female and want to lose less than 2 lbs per week and do exercise and it still recommended 1200 for me. I stick to 1200 or so when I am not exercising, but I eat more like 1350 when I do exercise.
  • I didn't used to - I would leave off the 3 glasses of wine post-dinner b/c it was late and I was too lazy to grab my phone or tablet and add them to the day, then I would rationalize the next day that yesterday is over and I should just start fresh. But, I know I am frustrating my own efforts by doing that, so I started…
  • Is this it: http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=405061849
  • That might very well all be true, but for someone like my mom, who is in her 60s and never did much strength training, it is very difficult to just pick it up. She is not as flexible or limber as she was 30 years ago and she has knee trouble and already has osteoporosis. If she had started in her 40s it might be a…
  • I am 5'4" and was 180 when I got pregnant with my first at age 36, and 170 when I got pregnant with my second at 39. I had dropped from a high of about 200 lbs. before the first. Both were completely healthy and uneventful pregnancies, and I conceived the first month of trying for each. Anecdotally, two friends of mine…
  • For me personally, it is not only about willpower so much as it is I can't get control of my depression and I am a depressed eater. My medications are not working like they used to, and I can't seem to find some combination that really works. I am so careful about logging all day long, but after dinner, I just can't hold…
  • I don't think it is body shaming, but it doesn't really inspire me, either. I am short and broadly built and I've had two kids and I work a very demanding job - I can get into better shape, but I will never look like that (nor do I really aspire to). And it looks to me like she has had breast implants, in addition to the…
  • Why limit fruit? One reason may be that a lot of fruit means a lot of fiber, which may mean a lot of time in the bathroom ifyouknowwhatImean. Found that out the hard way once or twice in my lifetime . . . .
  • Oh for sure! I recall the late 1970s or early 1980s they were shamed for their fat content, and who can forget the early/mid-1990's FAT FREE fad (i.e., the Snackwells Years).
  • I track my weight every day, and while the overall trend is down, it ping-pongs a bit. Could be water retention, no b.m. before I weigh myself, moved the scale to an uneven spot on the floor - I do not worry about it as long as week by week I am losing.
  • I eat a lower carb (not "low carb") diet because I have a tendency to overeat carbs. I also try to make better choices when it comes to the carbs I do eat - grain breads with higher fiber or brown rice, for example - but I am not really strict about it.
  • At Disney you can sub out fries for baby carrots and/or grapes at a lot of counter service locations. Or you can order sandwiches/wraps/burgers without sides.
  • I do, too, usually with some mushrooms as well. I do not care for sweet breakfasts. They don't sit well with me. I tried a curry-seasoned oatmeal and carmelized onion recipe, but I didn't like it as much as the mushroom soy and scallion mixture. I found another one for oatmeal made with a bit of olive oil, and some shaved…
  • A couple of hard boiled eggs, coffee, and maybe an apple. I start my work day very early, so I bring this with me to the office.
  • I only drink milk in coffee and I am a rebel and use whole milk for that.
  • Sorry, I thought the OP was mid to late 30s, which is close enough to middle aged, frankly. Even if her measurements are different, I don't think she has that much more muscle without strength training. And it is hard to say how "good" she looks for 200 lbs because the baby covers most of her body in the current picture.…
  • It's "It Works" an MLM like Herbalife? And don't most of these supplements have enclosed paperwork explaining that you should eat a balanced diet or modest calories and exercise anyway to actually lose weight (as "promised")? I couldn't be more convinced it is a scam if Dr. Oz promoted it on his afternoon television…
  • Can you judge by the fit of your clothing, or measurements maybe, going forward? I doubt that you could have that much more muscle unless you are strength training. I have read that eating more lean proteins and moderate fats aids in weight loss, especially as people reach middle-age. Do you eat much processed or prepared…
  • I would probably flash a bright flashlight at her, since you are running against traffic, right? We don't have sidewalks in my neighborhood and I carry a flashlight or use a headlamp when I take out the dogs for a run. If someone doesn't move over, I start flashing my light at them. If you are going to be a jerk, prepare…
  • I wouldn't think it would matter than much if you adjust your calories accordingly. I usually only have a bad first day of my period, so after one day of sweatpants and Midol, I can get back up & running.
  • I do this to myself, too, and the only way I can prevent it is to avoid buying the kinds of foods I'll mindlessly snack on. This is incredibly hard, since my 3 year old practically lives on peanut butter sammies and peanut butter is one of my binge/snack foods. But we do buy a lot more fruit and veggies, so I can always…
