  • Cathy those results are just awesome! Thats why we are on this lifestyle change! Welcome poleboy! I think I understand the number issue I was having, when people talk about numbers like 5-6 they are talking about a1c results. it's good to know that with the weightless the blood sugar numbers can be controlled without…
  • Katz... so sorry for the loss of your friend. 5 miles is pretty awesome. I'm on this jog/walk combo for about a minute and the farthest I can go is 4 miles so great job! I have a questions about your numbers qtpie, I measure my blood sugar in mg/dL what units are you using for your numbers? I'd like to figure out the…
  • I had half of a dark chocolate croissant :blushing:
  • @katzpawz - I switched to a digital scale and just love it, the mechanical one I had was not cutting it. When I bought my scale I looked at the online reviews before actually buying it and so far I've been pretty happy. I do have to agree that those big heavy duty mechanical ones however seem to be pretty reliable. So my…
  • I second drinking lots I mean LOTS of water. When I feel like eating I drink around 16 ounces wait & if I stll feel hungry after like five ten minutes I'll eat something. Listen to your body if you feel like you are starving, you just might be. Also FYI I don't eat all my exercise cals back but I do eat a few.
  • Oatmeal at breakfast and almonds as mini-snacks throughout the day
  • Half Japanese (Mom) and Half mostly Irish (Dad). When we eat with my mom's family it tends to be teriyaki marinade for everything and to top it off most of my family is diabetic! I totally don't think it's weird to eat rice with everything I think it's normal, finacially smart, and fulfilling. I just started eating this…
  • Plus all the crunching you've got to do to eat those carrots is sure to burn a couple of extra calories
  • Sounds like a common problem... I too have been riding this evening meal issue. I have found when I eat a little more in the morning for breakfast especially it tends to curb my after dinner "snacking" that being said there are still some days when I can't stop putting stuff in my mouth. So I've tried to drown myself…
  • Happy Sunday Ladies! I've only been taking meds since August of last year. With just the meds and watching what I ate my numbers would fall between 150-165. I purchased a gym membership in October and started going to the gym three times a week for 40 minutes of cardio. My numbers started to drop after a week into the…
  • Depends on the workout, but usually my numbers go drastically down, between the 80s and 90s. My doc said as long as I'm not under 70 then I don't need to worry. If you are feeling hypoglycemic (shaky and weak) then maybe you need to talk to your doc already about changing your meds, which would be awesome right? I try not…
  • A Jumbo Jack is a hamburger sold at Jack in the Box similar to a Whopper sold at Burger King. 131 is not super high is it? I try to keep my morning blood sugar under 130 and that to me is a good morning  I agree with qtpie on the low carb thing closer to bedtime. I try to eat most of my carbs in the morning though…
  • So my blood sugar was 118 this morning go figure? And I forgot to take my meds last night, go figure I thought it would be way higher with the greasy fast food! Tonight i was bad and helped myself to a snowcone, but I'm going to be up real late so i don't think it will affect my numbers that much... No workout til sat. And…
  • qtpie- for carbs I also eat about 1/2 a cup though I'm not very good at eating vegetables. Its not that I don't like eating my veggies I do but I'm a little lazy about preparing them with my meals for some reason. Cathy- I eat around five meals a day. I always eat breakfast with a carb (usually instant oatmeal) and some…
  • On another thread someone commented about keeping carbs to 40% of the total calories coming in... Is this something diabetics should be using to control carbs??
  • I struggled with carb portion control cuz I thought I new what the size of a tennis ball was but I was dishing out a softball serving instead.
  • Great job! I love walking!
  • I think the metformin might be making my tummy hurt also I'll have to talk to my doc about it...
  • They have new at home testers that don't require finger pricks, the one I was given lets me prick my forearm and I really don't feel any pain  When they first told me that I was diabetic I dreaded having to prick my fingers because everytime my mom has to do it she always looks like it hurts. I'll have to monitor…
  • I just found out I had type II diabetes in August last year. It wasn't a big suprise since both my mom, aunt, and grandfather have/had type II. I just hadn't been going to the doctor... So my condition is genetically linked. My fasting blood sugar was 227 which apparently was super high, and at the time I had been eating…
  • Awesome job G! That shirt is too big now but a great way to track your progress. And as some others have already stated you do look younger in the last pic!
