At the end of the day, her final findings make total sense for everyone. 1. Measure all your food and log everything that goes into your mouth 2. Eat at a pattern that makes sense to you so that you don't feelf hungry. For many of us that includes making sure we eat something in the morning. 3. Maximize your calories. Why…

Weight loss isn't about carb intake, or fat intake, or fiber intake or protein intake. Whilst the proportion of your macros might make a great deal of difference to your overall health, the only thing that matters in weight loss is a calorie deficit. Calories taken in must be less than calories burnt. Get a food scale and…

That is true as far as it goes HappyStack, but at the same time you're growing more fat cells, others are dying off. The number tends to remain constant over your lifetime. But what does it matter what the actual number of fat cells we have is? The fact is that we all have fat cells that contain more fat than we want to…

Absolutely false and not supported by medical science in any way, shape, manner, or form. When we look at the Krebs cycle, the process by which the body turns a molecule of glucose into one unit of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and a molecule of CO2 (necessary to stimulate breathing), it's clear that the body has a…

The number of fat cells you have remains fairly constant throughout your life, regardless of whether or not you diet, or are thin or fat, say researchers at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. In a study published in Nature they have demonstrated that we continually create new fat cells to replace those that are breaking…

This. Weight loss only occurs when calories out are greater than calories in. You say you're weighing your food and keeping close count of your calories, so that would indicate that 1500 calories a day is simply not enough of a deficit for you to be able to lose weight. Cut back a bit, maybe to 1300 calories a day and you…

This If you're serious about losing weight, invest in a food scale and measure everything that goes between your lips... Look at the nutritional labels on everything. You'll be shocked and awed about the calorie content of some of your food choices that you thought were "healthy". My wife and I have totally changed our…

Ooooh! Good point Fitkath! When you quit Mountain Dew, you do cut out a TON of caloric intake every day!
-
You'd be far healthier and lose far more weight by simply ensuring that you burnt more calories every day than you took in.

Again Rena-May, please don't try to scare her. Study after study conducted in thirld world nations where nutrition is far poorer than in any developed nation have proven that the quality of the mother's diet has very little influence over the nutrional quality of her breast milk. If you want to plead for her to eat better…

Actually, thirst is a survival mechanism that kicks in once your hydration deficit is nearing danger levels. Is your wee pale yellow and clear? Are you drinking two litres of water a day? If the answer is no, you aren't sufficiently hydrated. When your body experiences thirst, it's telling you that it's been neglected.

If your body has the fat stores to support it, eating under your BMR has no adverse affect. Your body makes up the deficit by burning fat (which presumably what you're after)

You're right that your body doesn't recognize the time change at midnight. In general, if you're weighing yourself once weekly on the same day every week, you should be able to consider your calorie pool as a weekly (i.e. 1500 calories daily = 10,500 calories weekly). At the end of the week, if your calorie deficity is…

I absolutely agree with Mjudd. Whilst there is a recognized medical condition that we call "water intoxication", it simply doesn't occur at the amounts that you say you're drinking. An excessive amount of water intake can interfere with the balance of sodium and potassium in the body, but you'd be far more likely to…

In general, if you have the body fat to support it, the answer would be yes. How tall are you and how much do you weigh? You don't want to be in a position of having to sacrifice lean body mass to support your BMR+TDEE, but if you have the fat readily available, then you will lose weight safely. If you're truly burning…

My top tips? Buy a digital scale. Weigh every single thing that passes your lips. Don't use recipes or nutritional values on MFP that say *Generic or *Homemade. If you can't scan it in, then enter your own recipes using actual weighed weights of the ingredients from our digital scales. Include everything including that…

Even more important (to my mind) than knowing my BMR and TDEE is knowing that the numbers I'm logging for food intake and caloric burn from exercise are accurate. Are you using a scale ot weight out your ingredients/food? If you're simply using measuring spoons/cups, you could potentially be eating hundreds of calories…

That's not unusual at all the first week. You lose a great deal of water weight the first week that you start controlling your intake. I lost a little over 8lb. It will slow down ::mad: Your headaches are most likely due to the caffeine withdrawal. Mountain Dew contains more sugar and more caffeine than just about any…

All right, I wouldn't worry about it until next week. If it's an electronic scale, the way you store it isn't going to affect it, so you can consider it a data point. We all have weeks that represent abnormal data. I'll give you several things to consider next week if the result is the same... 1. Are you near your monthly…

Eating 1400 daily isn't going to affect the quality of the breast milk at all. Numerous studies conducted in third world countries have shown that the mother's diet has very little effect on the quality of the breast milk. The flip side of that is that the body pull's from the mother's stored resources to maintain the…

Actually, it's likely that it's not the antibiotics that have affected you. It's far more likely to be the steroidal nasal spray. Corticosteroids are derived from the hormone cortisone. They cause water retention and alter the body's metabolism causing increased fat stores.

Wow! Way to go!!!!!!!!!

What type of scale is it? Electronic or one of the older spring models? If it's an older model, then storing it sideways could potentially have caused it to become mis-adjusted. If it's an electronic model it shouldn't have made a difference. Also, how long ago did you last weigh in? If it was just yesterday, you very well…

With all due regard to the kindly people who sincerely want ot help you, I still have to disagree with them when they tell you so authoritatively that the calorie range you doctor gave you is too low for your health and your body. He is the person who knows your health, any co-existing medical problems, your blood…

Speaking as a registered nurse, I can tell you that many type 2 diabetics find that they do lose weight after they've been put on to the oral hypoglycemic metformin. Metformin is not a steroid!
-
Huh, and here I've been getting all my sugars from alcohol... :drinker:
-
Hear Hear! That's a good sound piece of advice Newleaf! Very much more sound than the whole "you must not be eating enough calories" argument. As a nurse, I totally recommend seeing your doctor. In fact, Before starting said diet, most people would benefit from having a full physical and blood work.
-
Don't eat back your exercise calories and save them for your weekly alcohol allowance. I've not got the time right now to get a lot of exercise in, so when I'm under my calorie goal, I earmark those calories for my weekly alcohol.
