  • What I find the most inspiring to me is that he STARTED at 98. It's not like he was fit all his life, a real gym nut since before gyms were cool and has just stuck with it. He didn't really do any for his fitness before this age. That means no one can use the excuse they are too old to start. Especially me!
  • For him, I'd say probably, yes.
  • I'm not in the same boat, but I thought I'd bump this for you in the hopes more people would see it. Good luck!
  • February 26 was not long ago. Most people say to wait until 6 weeks after birth to start a full exercise program. That's not saying you can't go out for gentle walks with your son, but really, take it easy. Something MAJOR has happened to your body, you've given birth, give it a chance to recover from that. Eat sensibly…
  • I doubt it would stop you from getting sick, but it looks tasty. I regularly make zucchini cake and chocolate beet cake and carrot cake, plus use dates to sweeten muffins so the ingredients don't scare me. I'm pretty sure it'll taste really good, lots of chocolate taste and very moist. I'll try it this weekend and let you…
  • If you don't know what you want, look at several to see what is available. Don't be swayed by extras you won't actually use, much or at all. Thing like a sauna and steam room are all well and good, but just cost you more for your membership if you don't use them. Same for classes. No need to pay for access to all classes…
  • I'm in the UK and when I first moved here, I practically overdosed on food programs. Now I might occasionally get into a series, or watch a random episode of something off of Food Network, often a U.S. show. I used to watch a lot of Jamie Oliver, Barefoot Contessa and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall with his River Cottage…
  • Your dog lost so much weight it disappeared! :noway: Just kidding of course, you look terrific, congratulations! I love it when people show their before and afters in the same clothes, it's so much easier to see the real difference. And yours is impressive!
  • I'm not presuming anything, I'm suggesting people spread the use of the word so that more people can become aware of the difference. However with your example, I don't see the difference between calling oneself vegetarian and eating fish and saying you have a vegetarian diet and eating fish. Feel free to elucidate. Despite…
  • You don't need a Kindle necessarily. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can download the Kindle app for free and then the book. That's what I do.
  • Thanks for the link. It's also on Amazon UK and free. Just downloaded it and will look through later.
  • Just so you know, I did search for Polar before posting. I went through about five pages, but it was either general HRM stuff, something besides Polar, or asking about one specific model. I figured my question was different enough to warrant a new topic. Thanks for the advice about the H4, as I have recently turned to the…
  • Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone, and thanks for the blog post, it's interesting reading. I did just calculate my VO2 max this week trying two different methods and it's better than I expected, which is also part of the reason I want a new HRM. Just to be a bit more accurate about these things, rather than a…
  • Doesn't the monitor you are wearing over ride any hand sensors for heart rate anyway, so you would expect it to be the same, as it's measuring from the same device?
  • My kids are 6 and 3 and we go out together probably once a month, but as my husband travels a lot for work and I sometimes have volunteer work to do in the evenings or a meet-up with friends, we probably use a babysitter every two to three weeks, sometimes more. If we had family in the same country as us, you bet we'd go…
  • The FT4 does look good, it's definitely one to consider.
  • Slightly more than 100 calories, but at 130 calories, I love my chocolate tofu pudding when I need something that tastes rich and chocolately. I just posted the recipe yesterday. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/907511-chocolate-tofu-pudding
  • Your body is more likely to hold on to the weight if you DON'T increase calories because it thinks you are starving it. Listen to your body, it's not saying, " mmm, I really fancy more curly fries because they taste good". No, it's saying, "I'm being worked hard and I need more fuel to work at a high level".
  • My pleasure.
  • Sadly, there aren't going to be any farmer market tomatoes here until May at the earliest!
  • Time to come back to this thread.
  • I only downloaded it a couple of days ago, so can't say how it is, but have heard good things about the Nike Fitness Club app. Free.
  • I didn't do Diet Chef, but I did a similar one for a couple of weeks. It was okay. I like cooking however, so found pre made meals a bit boring, or there would be a surprise of having to cook about 2 tablespoons of rice that they provided to go with the lunch when I though it was all ready to go. Both my kids were little…
  • Have you been taking photos of yourself along the way? Because you might think you don't look good, but I bet if you compared photos with how you used to look, you would think differently!
  • Turtlefitness, you are being judgemental to question other families' choices of how to raise their own children. Just because both parents choose to work doesn't make them bad parents. Just because YOU think it's wrong doesn't make it so.
  • I am Canadian and live in the UK. Weighing things on a scale is much easier. If I'm having breakfast cereal, I put the bowl on the scale, measure out my portion and it's done. If I used a measuring cup, I'd have one more thing to clean up. I only use cup measurements on MFP when I'm estimating something that's already been…
  • I'm 5'6" and the lowest numbers MFP gave me was 1350 or so. I was losing the will to do anything with so little (and this is with a sedentary lifestyle). I bumped it up by 200 calories, had more energy, felt better and still am losing weight.
  • I do most of the cooking. Partly because I'm home and can do it at a more reasonable (ie earlier) time than my husband, but also because I hate doing the washing up. In our house, if you cook, you don't wash up, which is why I do the cooking.
  • I got men's shoes the last time, which gives my bunion and my wide feet the extra room they need.
