So I went back and looked through your posts and came across this response to your question. If this is what you're referring to, I would agree with you that this is a little rude and snappy. To call this person's message "helpful" is being overly kind I think. They left 22 question marks after their last statement. Why…

That's some good advice from Holton. I can tell you from my own experience that any time I have overdone it - and for me, six days a week at 60 minute each is too much - my body has "stalled out" in the weigh loss department. When I was training for a half marathon ten years ago, I was running 3-5 miles during the week and…

I agree with Tatiana - I don't tell anyone in my life about what I'm doing on mfp either. I don't discuss it because I don't want anyone's opinions, suggestions, corrections or judgment. I want this to just be MINE, and the only way I can keep it thus, is to keep it to myself. For me, overeating has been a control issue,…

Hi sweetie. Yes, I struggled with it for around 20 years. For me, bulimia was about perfection and not being good enough. I would overeat to dull the pain of whatever I was going through, and then panic that I was going to gain weight, and thus the purge. The way out of both sides for me - the eating and the purging - was…

I don't give up anything either. I like what I eat. Most people looking at my food blog though would probably consider my answer to this question to be good, dark chocolate. :)

hahahaaaa. I have orange juice fingers.

Hi LaJauna! I totally understand enmaku's comments, because that too has been my experience with Atkins. I lost 10, but gained 15 when I started eating carbs again. BUT I also respect your need to find your own way. If there's anything that we should have control over, it's what is going in our own mouths! The journey is…

Hi Emmaleigh! I can totally relate! I'm 43 and my only real accomplishment in the kitchen is an omelette. I started the year by setting a goal of making one new thing in the kitchen each week. Mostly I focus on a new ingredient which makes it more interesting for me. I chose chipotles one week and then looked for recipes…

Yes! To today, always today, or any amount of time that seems manageable or relevant. Anything looked at across months or miles looks impossible. It's like the Budha version of weight loss. It's the moment right here in front of you that counts - not what you did yesterday, not what your life is going to become six months…

I LOVE CHEESE! It makes me feel satisfied and the taste is just yummy. I find it to be a nice snack in the afternoon and I also like the Trader Joe brand you refer to. It's not like you're eating orange American cheese, so I think if it's healthy and fills you up , go for it! Also, lots of evidence now that eating fat…

I personally don't do cheat days because I don't believe in the concept of cheating. I do believe in eating whatever my body wants every day though, and that usually involves some form of chocolate. ;) The idea of cheating to me means that what I'm doing now is miserable and therefore needs to be to "cheated" away from.…

Sustainable is the way to go! You're on the road to sanity now. :)

Yes, my cat is always very helpful too. ;)

This is a HUGE realization! Congratulations! For the 20 pounds yes, but also for the connections you're making to your emotions. No one eats just to eat and looking at that squarely is a great start. As Geneen Roth says, eating won't solve your financial problem. It will only add a weight problem to the one you already…

Wow! Big accomplishment and big congrats!!!

What do you like to do? What interests you? Reading? Playing tennis? Meeting new people? Taking Spanish classes? Learning to Tango? Studying the mating habits of the beetle? There are a million gazillion things to do with your time - other than eat. It seems to me that the purpose of eating is to keep your body alive so…

I think when you write something political, that you are inviting controversial commentary. I suppose the other girl could have let it go... but the other person could have not written it too. That's what I think!! :)

What a great site! I just read a little from their mission and wow, what a concept! The idea of "fat talk" has become so prevalent that people often act as if something's wrong with you if you're not criticizing your body. thanks for sharing!!

Great thought! I LOVE it! :D

We all talk about the power of the scale like it is a monster ruling the city. How can we keep it under control? will it defeat us? should we avoid or face it? The reality is that the scale is a small metal box with numbers on it. It's a paper dragon that we've given a magic hat to. As Tatiana mentioned above, the scale is…

Dear Betsy, To me, when dieting feels like an all-out yard sale everything must go change, then I tend to change back in the same drastic manner to where I was before I started. What is one thing that you can reasonably do that will improve your life right now? Can you take a snack with you on the road? Or prepare one meal…

To me it depends on why you want to log it. Are you just wanting to keep track of your movement? Or hoping to use it to eat more calories? All of life every day, your body is burning calories. Sitting at the table eating dinner, you're burning em up. I just hate to separate out - this is exercise - this isn't - when there…

Hahaha... so true!! Reading your post reminded me of a chapter in Geneen Roth's book, Women Food and God. In chapter 4, "Its not about the weight, but it's not not about the weight." a woman writes in to ask Geneen about a very similar situation. She is "going places" in her career, but is stuck for a while in a menial job…

Yes, I feel the same way. Something happened to me over Christmas this past year and I don't know exactly what it was, but it changed everything. I always thought, I'm so tired of fighting this (weight problem) and then one day I just thought, why is it a fight? All I have to do is decide that I belong at a different…

Also, 120 calories for breakfast is NOTHING! Of course you were still hungry!! I try to shoot for 300, but sometimes it's 400 or 450 even. It changes from day to day. The reason that you were still hungry (imho) is that you hadn't eaten enough. ;)
-
Planning is key for me, especially for breakfast and lunch, since I am at work and have less control over what I can eat. Do what works for you!

I loved reading your commentary! I haven't put it into words yet, but many of the things you say are exactly how I feel - like small calorie reduction and eating back the calories when I feel like it. Sustainable is the key. Slow is the key. Awesome results!!!

Yes, absolutely. It's possible for your weight to fluctuate 2-3 pounds actually during this time (I don't like the word "gain" because you haven't actually gained weight - fat). Weight fluctuations are NORMAL and part of the process when losing weight, even when it isn't your time of month.
-
Hurrah! It's like a treasure hunt for lost body parts! I love it!

I like one square of dark chocolate. It's not so sweet that it incites my appetite, but yummy enough that it satisfies me. I also find, if my sweet tooth is really out of control, that it helps to lay off sweets for a couple days (like two) and then I find that either my craving diminishes, or is not there at all. Sugar is…
