  • About the new clothes thing. Every pay cheque, I put $40 cash into a jar. That is for my new wardrobe when I achieve goal weight. I'm up to over $1500 by now (haven't counted it recently). Great motivation to keep working towards goal, and there will be no financial impact on my monthly budget when I do start shopping.
  • I'm in the same boat. Wanting to achieve my current goal by NYE. My original goal was to lose 80 lbs in one calendar year. It will be 2 years come NYE, and I'm still plugging away at it. So, I'm going to do my best to get to goal weight, and I also know that the world won't end if I don't make it by Dec 31st. Worst case is…
  • At 5'10" and 204, setting your calories at 1200 and then consistently undereating them is way too low. Fewer calories is not "better" when it comes to weight loss. Set your goal to max 1 lb a week, and eat your alloted calories, plus up to half of your earned exercise calories. It seems counterintuitive, but it WORKS.
  • Hi, I'm Suzanne from Toronto. I'm currently 173.4 and would be ecstatic to lose 18 lbs between now and the end of the year, and achieve my ultimate goal weight of 155, but that's not very realistic. I'm aiming for at least 10 lbs lost and would like to break 160 by NYE. The last 10 lbs is going to be a grind, but this time…
  • You know the only problem with running your first 5K? It's the gateway drug to more 5Ks and then longer distances. ;) Congrats! And welcome to the club!
  • I'm 5'8" and currently 174. My calorie goal is 1560, and I eat back about half my exercise calories.
  • Also - what kind of exercise are you doing? For the past week or so, I saw only treadmill walking. Yes, it's better than nothing, but it's not cardio. You may also want to investigate HIIT (high intensity interval training) as well as some strength training. For me, I found that cardio (jogging) would help take the weight…
  • I'm 5'8" with a large frame as well. I got down to 160 in the early spring, with an ultimate goal weight of 155, and then life, stress, summer happened and I took a break (and regained 15 lbs, totally my fault but still, ugh). I'm aiming for 155 so that I'll have 5 lbs of "buffer" before I hit warning bells at 160, but…
  • I'm a new runner as well, and I found the training for 0-5K MUCH more difficult than the training for the additional distance of 5K-10K. What really worked for me was to increase the distance slowly - by 500 m to 1 km per week. And to run 15 min, walk 1 min, run 15 min, walk 1 min as I was increasing the distance. Once I…

  • Having multiple goals. Burn 500 calories a day with exercise. Stay in my calories for the day. Stay in my calories for the week. Joining challenges - here, Endomondo, other websites, real life. Signing up for sporting events - running a 5K, 10K, or anything you have to train for & which has a set date. Setting "lbs lost by…
  • I eat back half (ish) of my exercise calories, but only if I'm hungry for them. Ump78, you're off to a great start, but be aware if you net too few calories, your weight loss will eventually stall out.
  • Can you open up your diary?
  • I'm doing Thursday weekly weigh-ins for an offline challenge so will use them here as well. Start weight: 179.6 Goal Weight (by the end of the challenge): 159.6 Lbs to Lose: 20 08/28: 179.6 09/04: 178.6 09/11: 176.8 09/18: 09/25: 10/02: 10/09: 10/16: 10/23: 10/30: 11/06: 11/13: 11/20: 11/27: 12/04: 12/11: 12/20:…
  • I aim for minimum of 500 per day. See, I LOVE to eat, so "earning" some extra calories means my meals are more enjoyable. Which makes this lifestyle change achievable.
  • Hi all, Late to the party here; wish I'd found this group earlier! I'm 43, married, no kids of my own but have acquired 2 stepdaughters - 18 & 15. I live in Toronto, Canada and OF COURSE I play hockey year-round, bike, swim, run and cross-country ski. I started on MFP January 2013 at 240 lbs. A few missteps here & there,…
  • It might work - I'd suggest you wear the outfit for a trial swim to ensure your sports bra doesn't "cup" and cause too much drag, and that your bottoms don't roll off. My first tri I work bike shorts, a sports bra and a tank swimsuit over top. I stripped off the swimsuit in the first transition, threw on a tanktop (if…
  • Hi team, sorry I've been AWOL. Big problem with my eldest DSD in the past 2 weeks. Like police, child services and criminal charges bad. Good news is the bad guy is in jail. The kids have been with me & DH, so it's been a little...hectic considering we had a full schedule to begin with. Bad news is that I've officially…
  • 5'8" 165 12 (aiming for 10)
  • South Etobicoke here. I run around my neighbourhood/on the lakefront trails; bike on the city trails/rail trails; swim at a parks & rec pool; play hockey at Mimico, Canlan York, Powerade, Canlan Ice Sports Etobicoke & McCormick; take powerskating at Iceland Arena; mountain bike at Albion Hills; do bootcamp at Avalon Woods.…
  • Add me to team commando. I tried wearing my normal thong to play hockey…once. I almost needed a crowbar to remove THAT wedgie.
  • Man, I am sucking at this challenge. 164 again. I've been allowing myself to succumb to temptation too frequently. However, I did ride my bike to work today for the first time this season, and will continue to do so when I can - so hopefully this is the start of me getting back on track.
  • Great work Anna! Can't say the same for me. The long weekend (Victoria Day) at the cottage killed me, and I continued off the rails until yesterday. And we're going back up to the cottage again tonight. Much harder to have better food choices up there during the opening weekends - with so much cargo to bring, and a finite…

  • I just snorted water all over my desk.
  • Great news team! Despite being off the rails for 5 days, I have somehow managed to hold flat at last week's weight of 160.8! I'll take that as a definite win! Hope everybody else is posting big losses. I'm back on track, so for those on my friends list, you can expect to see lots of exercise calories burned and days under…

  • I was 240 on Jan 2, 2013. I didn't have a date picked yet, but knew it would happen in the next year or two, and that we'd plan it quickly. I realized I would need time to lose the weight. What worked for me on those days I wanted to eat all the things then sit on the couch and not exercise was: I don't want to be a fat…
  • Ok, somebody smarter than me please help post a pic. I know it can be done; I just can't figure it out right now.

  • Hi everybody, I'm here and I'm all married! We didn't think it was going to change anything, yet it totally did. Didn't think we could get happier, but we did! From Thursday to Monday it was just a complete whirlwind. Last minute prep, writing the vows at 10 pm the night before, then hair and makeup, rushing around to be…
