  • Congrats! That's a big loss, and FAST! I've lost 75 lbs in a year & a quarter - a little slower pace than you. I'm in the last 10 pounds and have lot more "jiggle" to contend with than I'd like. Don't knock the crazy bootcamp exercises - I've only taken 5 classes so far but I'm already noticing a difference - my body is…
  • Hi Heather - another bride! My wedding is May 3rd - eek, a month away! I'd be so happy to break the 160 barrier for it, but that's 4-5 pounds away. 160 was my original goal weight - and will represent a loss of 1/3rd of my starting body weight. Fingers crossed I can meet it as it was my original plan was to be at my goal…
  • OMG, I just sprayed water all over my desk. ME TOO!
  • Tomorrow is week zero weigh-in! And the challenge starts! What are all of you planning to do to meet your goals? I will: *try to stay within my calories for the day/overall week *try to earn 500 calories a day on average through exercise *only eat back around half my earned calories (depending if i'm hungry or not) *try to…
  • I was diagnosed with mild to moderate, exercise-induced asthma. I'd usually take a couple puffs of my inhaler before exercising as a preventative. I avoided running because it would make my lungs hurt. Then I tried the C25K program (Couch to 5 K). The walking intervals allowed me to catch my breath well before the "seized"…
  • My goals are to complete my first 10K race, and run my first trail run (weather & conditions permitting as I don't currently own rain gear, or proper trail shoes).
  • Hi everybody! I'm so happy to have found this group! My name is Suzanne, I'm 42 years old and live in Toronto. I started my weight loss journey on Jan 2, 2013, so have been at it for a year & a bit now. I waited until I moved out of obese into overweight on the BMI scale before I started the C25K in May 2013 (I didn't want…
  • I'd rather not waste my calories on bad chocolate. Those snack chocolate bars taste like sugar and hydrogenated palm oil to me. For the same calorie "spend", have one square of GOOD quality chocolate - Valrhona dark is my current fave.
  • If you're on an iPhone, I believe the C25K app will sync to MFP automatically; you just need to set it up.
  • Does your aunt use you as the scapegoat on other things than food? If not, and it's only a food-related issue, then ask her if it would be ok if you used one of these for her trigger items: http://www.fridgelocker.com I figure you'll soon find out if your aunt is willing to work towards a solution, or if she's using you as…
  • OMG, funniest gif I've seen in a long time. Love it! Thanks for posting it and making my day. :D
  • Another vote for the C25K app. Don't make the mistake of trying to go from not running, to running non-stop for a long time. That's pretty much a recipe for injury and failure. The C25K app is great because it allows both your cardio and muscles "rest" time in between running sets. I hadn't run for 30 years since forced…
  • Another thumbs up for MFP. WW helped a bit with portion control, etc, but MFP allows so much more flexibility. And I've gotten better results here because fruits and vegetables are NOT free of calories. I am very confident that this time will be the end of the yo-yo, that MFP will give me the tools and the support to learn…
  • Scoot over on the slow runners bench. I'm one too. And you know what? I don't really care. When I'm running a race, I'm only racing against myself. Run at whatever pace suits you best, and to those criticizing you? MYOB.
  • I was able to drink moderately early on in my weight loss, and still lose weight as I was still running at a calorie deficit. By moderately, I'd have one drink 2-3 times a week. However, last summer I plateaued - and I eventually (with help) figured out it was due to the drink. See, I'd go and burn a ton of calories on…
  • Thanks for posting the group. I've joined. My wedding date is May 3, 2014. I'd like to lose at minimum 5 lbs between now & then. It's a tough slog as I'm only 10-15 pounds away from goal.
  • I really sucked at this challenge. But, in my defense, I was injured for pretty much all of February so couldn't exercise. SW: 170.8 Final weight: 168.6 Total lost: 2.2 lbs. Not at all close to breaking the 160 barrier as I had hoped. But I'm still going to keep going. If anybody else wants to continue, I found another…
  • I'd probably respond: "I can lose weight, but you'll always be ugly." Does your school have a policy on harassment/bullying? If so, I'd also report them. And don't let the haters get you down. Use them for motivation to succeed at your weight loss.
  • Hi all, I'm new here and super excited to join up with your challenge. I'm in the last 10-15 lbs, and could use motivation/kicks in the *kitten* to get there.
  • For me, it's a gasoline & oil exhaust mix from starting up the boat. It means COTTAGE.

  • Great choice! This was my last CD purchase as well.
  • Haven't found my twin in this thread yet! I'm 42 5'8" SW 240 CW 166 GW 155-160 I play hockey (ice) 2-4X a week, XC ski in the winter/bike in the summer, newbie runner (training for a 10k) and plan to do 2 sprint triathlons this upcoming summer. I love to cook (and eat), log daily, am supportive, with a risqué sense of…
  • 2 things happened to me: I'll share them with you, but YMMV. #1 MFP's algorithms set my daily calories too low. I was under-eating at 1200 calories, at 5'8" and 186 lbs. My hair started to fall out. I followed the instructions to determine my BMR and TDEE here:…
  • I waited until I had moved from "obese" BMI to "overweight" BMI. I didn't want to put my joints through the additional stress of the extra weight. To prepare for running, I did low impact exercise to strengthen my muscles and start working my cardio up - lots of brisk walking, and swimming lengths.
  • Betelguese! And guess who's back in the news. Sigh.

  • Any guy you can "steal" away from his girl, can be "stolen" away from you by the next girl. People like that lack integrity. However, if he's going to be out of your life anyway, then sure, go ahead and tell him. Just be prepared you might not like the answer/reaction you'll receive. If you know you can't handle being…
  • Hi! I'm early 40s and a newbie runner. Did my first 5K last fall and am training for a 10K this spring. I play hockey 2-4X a week, and have started cross-country skiing this winter. For the summer, I'm planning to do 2 sprint triathlons. I live in a major city (Toronto), and try to get out of town every weekend I can -…
  • I agree that you're a little too early into your lifestyle change to be putting yourself in a couple of very "testing" situations. I'm also in my 40's and I made the lifestyle change last January. Those "experts" who say it takes a month to break old/make new habits? Liars. At 30 days, it was still a novelty (and the…
