Congrats Knit! That's a fantastic accomplishment! I'm not even at 5K yet, and you did 5 miles! Redred, I too didn't feel like running tonight, but I did it. W6D3 of C25K done!

Stupidhead that I am, I messed up my alarm this morning and slept in. I may do it tonight instead, but am unsure if that would be wise to run at 6 pm and then play hockey at 10.

If you lived closer, I'd just invite you over! :D

Great work everyone. And remember; weight loss isn't linear. I spent 4 months bouncing around in the same 5-7 lbs, but lost 2 sizes while doing so. And then, this week, the floodgates opened and I had the biggest drop in ages! I broke both the 180 lbs barrier AND the 60 lbs lost barrier. I don't know how long it's going to…

Wow, everybody is posting such amazing runs! I almost feel like a poser here, reporting in about my measly C25K progress. Maybe one day I can run that long...but for now, a short 5K is a long enough distance for me! Despite another late game where I didn't get to bed until after 1 am, I got up at 6:30 am again for the very…

Not every time, but sometimes I use cripplecramps as an excuse to not exercise. I know my body well enough to know if exercise will help alleviate them, or just be pain on top of agony. Legit excuse: I don't exercise immediately after a massage. I did it, once, and nope - not worth how awful I felt the next day and wasting…

Nobody's mentioned this one yet: Hockey.

Despite being up until 1 am after hockey last night, I still dragged my butt out of bed at 6:30 am. Completed W5D2 and was quite surprised to feel like I could have easily kept running! The next segment is the scary 20 min run without stopping. I know it's gonna suck, but I also know I can do it. And as Heather said - the…

Wow, great to see everyone having such good runs! Keep it up! I was way too hungover yesterday to do my planned run, so I went biking with my husband instead. A year ago, I would have sat in the backyard and drank beer to get over it; now, I go sweat it out! So, today I did another double of C25K - W4D3 and W5D1. Not too…

Week 0: 182.0 Week 1: 182.8 Week 2: 180.0 GW: 159.8 Down 2 pounds total in this challenge; and REALLY need the psychological boost of breaking the barrier into the 170s. Might take a couple of weeks as the TOM is coming up, and I always gain at least 4 pounds of water. :$

Aren't frenemies fun? Not. I'd treat them like they don't exist. And cropdust them at every opportunity. You think my sweat is stinky? Challenge accepted. Sucks to be you (and downwind).

@HeatherZousel – great job! Keep it up! @kcrow4102 – I’m in the same boat – my 5K is Oct 27, and I’m tight on time to get through the C25K program before then. So, on days I feel good/have time, I’ve been doubling up on segments. Ie I do the warm up, that day’s set of intervals then skip ahead to the following day, skip…

Sorry, a little late posting Week 0: 182.0 Week 1: 182.8 Aargh, it's going the wrong way. I've been "stuck" in the 180's since June. Trying to not get discouraged, but it's impossible to be "perfect" every. single. day. I do my best, and "life" happens, and the scale doesn't move.
-
If you can make it a few more days, it will get easier. IIRC, the first 4-5 days were REALLY tough until I became accustomed to eating less food. Hang in there!

I dragged my butt out of my toasty warm bed early this morning to run W2D3. I tried 3x to get DH up; no dice. My next run is supposed to be on Sunday, but I'll be at the cottage and can't do the run on my property as the snowmobile trails are too rough. So, I'll have to boat out to the marina to run on the road. In theory.…

I determined my running pace, and then build a playlist around that cadence. But I went for the hard stuff: Metallica, Van Halen, Zeppelin, Motley Crue, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Three Days Grace, and lightened it up with a little Tragically Hip and Duran Duran. But then again, I've never been in to dance music, as I…

@mommamia - the cramps very well could have been caused by eating too soon prior to running. Next time, have a small snack instead, and eat your meal afterwards. Personally, I need to eat at least 2-3 hours prior to exercise, or it's super uncomfortable/comes back up. @chell - look up the Couch to 5K program. I have the…

First line of defense against snacking: I drink diet pop or club soda with lime. Or I have an herbal tea. Maybe I'm just thirsty; not hungry. Or maybe I need to taste something. Second line of defense: brush my teeth. Third choice: if I have the calories free - I have that snack. One light Babybel cheese is 50 calories.…

I had the same fear. And then I nailed it on the first try. It's more mental than anything. Just run as slowly as you need to in order to not stop. Believe in yourself. And don't watch the clock! Focus on running to that parked car, tree, fire hydrant, stop sign. And when you get there, pick your next landmark. It will be…

Well, I just restarted C25K last Thursday, and the run I'm looking at is Oct 27th. Which doesn't give me enough time to graduate before the run. Sooo, I'm going to check in on how I'm doing later in the program, and if I think I can do it - I'm signing up!
-
Tara - once I figured out my running cadence (really slow), I went to jog.fm to find songs with the right BPM for my pace. If you're running 6 mph (or a 10 minute mile), your speed is around 150 BPM. Sorry, no advice for the treadmill other than listening to music/watching TV (if you can). So, I got W1D1 done on Thursday…

Hi everybody! I'm Suzanne, live in Toronto, 42 (but don't act it) and would LOVE to hit my goal weight by Christmas. More realistic would be 15 lbs. I started MFP on January 2, 2013, once I got over my hangover. :D F, 42, 5'8" SW: 240 CW: 183 GW: under 160 I work a desk job, so find it's easy to stay on track with…

I want to be a runner! I just restarted C25K last night; I had made it up to W7D2 in July, but then got too busy with other pursuits to be able to get up at 6 am and run before the humidity got to be too much. I would *like* to run a 5K on Oct 27. If I can make sure I complete the program every other day between now &…

Hi everyone! My ultimate goal would be to achieve my goal weight for Christmas - to break the 160 barrier! However, that's still about 25 pounds away, and I know the last ones are the hardest, so I'll be happy with a 15 lb loss. My goals are the same as I set myself in January when I started my journey. Exercise daily,…

I'm also a new runner, and live in Southern Ontario. Thanks for all these tips! I have a treadmill, but find I can't run as quickly on it as I do on the road (and I'm not a fast runner on the road by any stretch). Something about the walls being stationary as my feet are moving disorients me, and if I set it for too fast:…

42 here. I've lost almost 60 lbs since January and am heading towards the dreaded last 20. I was following MFP's caloric suggestions and having great success...and then my hair started falling out. So, I did the TDEE calculations and increased my calories slightly. Can't say if it's been working or not (yet), as summer was…
