Day 24! I left Saturday for a quick out of town trip with my life long best friend and we did not drink a drop! This is a huge deal as we normally would have bought a box of wine to get us through the night. I was definitely more at peace with not drinking than she was because she mentioned drinking A LOT, but still we did…

I am with you here. I always wondered why I didn't have the decency to just pass the eff out. Would have been so much better that way :#

He wrapped it up with that sentiment. What's been so important about this thread is the fact that some of us have realized we simply can't and in that case it's much easier to stay out than to get back out.

Sad but true. I was never a daily drinker but when I drank, I would Drink. It. All. If I had 2 bottles of wine and a half pint of fireball I would drink every drop. Eventually I did stop the binging though, and shifted to daily and all day if I didn't have to work. I am an all or nothing drinker, so for me, there is no…

Great job! I love "wineries" and "menopot"!

@salleewins WTG staying strong with all that stress! We have a ton of snow coming our way tomorrow and that would normally be an event I had an extra bottle of wine on hand for. No way I am even considering that now. I am sorry about your Dad, glad they found it and can fix it! Just breathe

On another board someone called alcohol a wolf waiting in the woods. It waited 17 years and it got her again. She ended her story with this, "It is easier to stay out, than to get out." I have been repeating that to myself all day and hope I am able to stay out permanently.

@JulieAL1969 I cringe as well. Now 2 of the 3 are of age and I am so worried about them. @erikNJ your team played one helluva game! loved every second!

Also, men were predominantly the heavy drinkers for decades and now women drinking has increased considerably, along with the elderly. It's scary, all these cute little wine sayings we laugh at and yet the effects of alcohol abuse hit women earlier. I just threw out my cute little wall hanging it said, "Wine a bit, you'll…

Day 17 in the books! My best friend has been AF for 3 days and she is reading This Naked Mind. She keeps sending me screenshots of the latest thing she has read :-) Have a good night, all. My sleepy tea has done it's job!

All of this is me...except the working out part. I'm glad you are here, Norm. <3 I am so glad to be learning how to deal with all of this in such a supportive atmosphere. We kinda rock, guys!

Thanks for even more confirmation that I am not missing anything...except Chic Fil A. Never had it, they just opened one in our area though... :p

Oh, heavens, not the heaviest by a long shot! My job was part time, so that means I had several days a week worry free so I just drank all day. Day 15 here, and there is no way for me to moderate, so I will have to be an abstainer. I agree about making that glass of tea and heading to bed feeling victorious, I love that so…

@kittybenn I have been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on your planned splurge. I guess I am not surprised after how good you have been feeling. I am starting Day 15 and these reminders are so helpful. Today I am going to get some sparkling water and some yummy juice, I haven't done that yet. I hope you get your…

Same here. Every time. Even when I type it!

Bow chicka wow wow ;-) Glad you stuck with us, @NormInv ! My fast and irregular heart beat has decreased significantly. That brings big peace of mind! Wishing you all a strong finish for Friday, whether you are moderating or abstaining. <3

I am doing this in my planner! I have 12 big pink stars in a row. When this month is over that should be 40 in a row :)

For sure, my husband having candy didn't concern me in the least. I knew he would be able to cut it out much easier than cutting out booze...stopping nearly killed him twice...it was a rough 8 years so sweets were certainly something I was happy to make sure he had.
-
I agree it will vary from person to person. I can't answer personally, but like I said, my husbands was pretty strong for a solid year. Then he decided to get it under control (didn't gain an ounce!) and it took 6 months of being conscious about it. He was able to cut out the bag of hard candy a day  Now he mainly…

My family has several former heavy drinkers and they ALL ate sweets like crazy when they stopped drinking! Some people are critical of the trade of one addiction for another, but eventually sweets can be cut out and much easier than alcohol. My husband is almost 2 years AF and for the first year he ate lots of hard candy…

Dang, February thread is already poppin'! Nice job and welcome to everyone. I am so looking forward to this continued motivation.
-
@Bry_Lander that is really something I have noticed. My resting heart rate (just on my Fitbit) is 114 when I am drinking. I have tachycardia so the last thing I need is to keep making this ticker work harder. Now that I am 10 days free of alcohol it's gone down to about the mid 80's. Even more incentive!

I'm in and looking forward to sharing this with everyone. <3

Down 5.2 pounds on day 10! I cannot wait until I hit my 30 day mark but I do not plan on drinking after that. This simply feels too good! I am definitely sleeping better and my house isn't being neglected and since I make dinner every night neither is my family! The kids are all grown but still it's nice when Mom isn't too…
-
@NormInv That was wonderful and really hit home for me. Thanks!
-
@crazykatlady820 What a difference! That is really amazing and I can't wait to start seeing those changes myself. Thank you so much for sharing!
-
At this time of the day I would probably take a hot shower, make a cup of calming tea and try to put myself to bed. I hope you find something to help you relax!
-
@Moxie42 I do not believe I will ever. EVER. be able to moderate. I am still coming to terms with this reality and I don't really love it, but I have to accept it. My husband got a DUI exactly 2 years ago. He was a very severe alcoholic, though because he was so high functioning and sweet he was able to fool many. He blew…

I knew she had passed but didn't know why. I am about 2/3 of the way through ALS and her writing is very compelling. She really puts it out there and I knew from the first couple paragraphs that she had really been through this struggle. How very tragic all that loss in the family. I will look up the other book. Well,…

Great job, @NormInv ! And thanks for the morning chuckle!
