https://www.amazon.com/Unexpected-Joy-Being-Sober-alcohol-free/dp/1912023385 Recommending this Catherine Gray book again now that it's available here in the states, finally. It has some good techniques for staying happy in sobriety even with a booming social calendar. Although I definitely could not identify with that…

Sorry it was a bust, Ruby. I've not heard many good reviews about alcohol free wines, which is a bummer. I don't mind the occasional AF beer, we tried some decent ones over the summer, just to change up from iced tea and water. I've heard mixed reviews about Seedlip (AF liquor replacement) and I think it's about…

Sounds good to me!

My wall is fixed today :) Hi everyone <3

Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words And never stops at all. --Emily Dickinson This was posted on another board I frequent and it just really touched me so I thought I would share. I am a very hopeful person by nature. This last week was pretty down for me for some…

@lorrainequiche59 You are adorable and so is Kona :) I'm with you on the little dog thing. We had to put our Rainie (yorkie/shih-tzu) down on January 2nd and I miss her terribly. I have no idea how to help with your pic, but it looks cool sideways ;-) Speaking of tech issues, has anybody had problems with MFP the last…

Well, first of all, great job making it through all of that! You've been a stressed out busy bee! The rest of your post made me chuckle, I want to lose weight many places, but I sure hope my bra size stays the same! As far as your ex goes, hopefully it's nothing too serious so he can get back on his feet so you…

That's a great way to start, Norm! Big hugs to you! <3 <3

@RubyRed427 I don't actively count anymore, either. I have a counter on my reddit account, so I can check that. I found counting wasn't encouraging a "normal" thought process about alcohol at all and it would make me feel like I deserved a reward every time I hit a higher day count. Two weeks? Earned a drink day. 30 days?…

@NormInv She has a movie called One Little Pill about Naltrexone. I've seen it recommended so often on other stop drinking boards and read more than a few personal accounts about how it has saved a person's life. Thanks for sharing this, I hadn't watched anything on it yet.

@kcn2bluesky congrats on your AF status and that marathon! I was finally able to do a 5k this summer and felt amazing! I am not a runner...at all...I HATED when we had to do it for sports in HS! But I had the energy and clear mind so I just went for it  Today I am sitting here marveling at how absolutely quiet my…

Hi @NormInv ! Always nice to see you :)

It will be a quiet Halloween here as well. Our kids are grown, the grandboy will be turning 1 the next day, so he won't go to many houses ;-) When the kids were little, we always took a thermos of warm cider and Jim Beam. Lots of buzzed Halloweens for us, now it'll be iced tea for him and hot tea for me and I am not even…

I couldn't bring myself to watch it :( I grew up with a kid named Mark, he worked at the neighborhood party store starting when we were in junior high. This was in the days when you could bring in a note from your parents for cigarettes or booze and they would send it home with you, and put it on your parent's account! :#…

South Beach is really good and balanced, I get a lot of great recipes from this site: https://kalynskitchen.com/ I have followed a low carb/keto diet for most of the last 10 years. I think that's why I never craved sugar when I cut out alcohol? Who knows but it makes sense to me. Last night though, I had a delicious…

@Kiki9871 Welcome and thanks for joining us! I can certainly relate to most of what you said. It's frustrating for some of us to try to moderate, I always seemed to wake up so disappointed in myself for not having that ability. Just not drinking takes up much less head space for me, so that is my aim. Congrats on your Day…

@73CL350 What a sweet happy little guy! I hope he improves quickly, thanks for sharing his darling little face!

Had a very boring but sober 47th birthday yesterday! My youngest was born on Thanksgiving '98, so I believe that was the last time I had a birthday without drinks. Oh, it wasn't boring because I didn't drink, it was just a dreary errand filled day. I ended it with a cup of kava tea and managed to stay up until 11pm :p Hope…

How wonderful! I still go back to it to watch some of the videos and to read my journal entries. I learned a lot those 30 days, it was very helpful.

Oh, boy! Hang in there, that is a helluva party spot! Stay out of the pool! ;-) I say that because of a video my friends were sharing. I'm in suburban Detroit and know many who go every year. I remember how successful your Nashville trip was and how proud you were of yourself, I know you can do it again. <3

I think that works quite well and you should be proud!!

Good morning all :) Has anybody read The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober by Catherine Gray? It's release date here in the US is sometime in November or December, (somehow I got it in May from Amazon) and it's a delightful read! I follow the author on IG and she just used a quote from me in an article she wrote for Grazia…

WOW! I just found this board and it's much more for me! Thanks, @JenT304 for starting this. It looks like I have 12 pages to read, but I noticed some familiar faces in the first few posts. <3

Hello, August and hello, friends! I will not drink with you today <3 <3

I like this. Self awareness is a very important tool. Thank you @andysport1

I was on medication for tachycardia because my resting pulse rate was in the 120 area. Guess what? It's in the mid 80s now. SMDH
-
HAHA! If only our AF days went by as quickly as that! I am on about the same timeline as you this stretch, @NormInv . Like @lorrainequiche59, I only check my Easy quit app once in a while now, that's how little I think about drinking each day. I know it helps that my husband is AF, kinda stressful to come home with a…

Here in the Detroit area, our grocery stores don't just have an alcohol section anymore. They put it EVERYWHERE. When you first walk in it's on display, on end caps, near the wine glasses, right now with the picnic supplies, etc. It's in our gas stations, Dollar General stores all sell beer and wine, my local CVS pharmacy…

I always say if you can't be a good example be a horrible warning! But thank you, Norm. She is seeing the positives and it makes me happy.
