Research indicates Diet drinks can make you crave sugar and many people do in fact increase their sugar intake after diet drinks. My daughter who is a dietician could give you the physiological response mechanisms that produce this result. I understand the process but doubt i ought expound on it. I emphasise I'm not trying…

Chery I do mental approximations. I think well it was proabably the equivalent of going for a walk for an hour or some such. It's not perfect. As you say you are ow hungry. It gives you at least something to measure against so you can regulate the food. otherwise you might start thinking 'This is all too hard and I'm not…

Re sugar intake. An Australian bloke by the name of David Gillespie wrote a book called "Sweet Poison" It is certainly worth a read.

Not wishing to hijack your thread in a different direction but this is a joke on myself. I had a bit the opposite problem. i was lying on a bed at the physiotherapists wearing just a pair of shorts I looked over to the bed beside me and I thought "I'm pleased I'm not as fat as that fat b.....d" Then I realised it wasn't…

Hi Carly...one more thing I did. In the B&F photos threads you can find great photos of what people here have achieved and it shows you what is possible. I got a good one of those and put it on my desktop and look at it every few days.

In any case, in he words of Jimmy Buffet "It's a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling" So as per what the others said ...Why take any risk.

Hi Carly The mind is sure a funny thing. I'm in a phase where the whole losing weight thing is currently easy. Yet on many occasions in the recent past I've tried and failed. FWIW I'll outline two things seem to be critical to me. For reasons related to my family I ended up at a psychologist. So he was helpful to us but in…

I pass this on for what it is worth. There was a bit of an old guru in my life. He reckoned you can't just quit smoking. Willpower won't do it. He had a meditation / visualisation technique. If you want to give up smoking you have to set a date, say, in one month's time. During the intervening month you meditate and see…

Hi I'm 62. I had a couple of false starts but have been using MFP seriously for about 6 weeks. I find the food and exercise diary really helpful. I'm doing pretty well and not finding it difficult really. The main thing was to cut out the alcohol I think. That helped change a lot of other things. I now only drink alcohol…

My method of cutting out the alcohol was to buy sparkling mineral water and drink it from a nice wine glass. You canbuy the expensive stuff if you want. it's still a lot cheaper than wine anyway. I generally put a couple of thin slices of lime or lemon just to give a slight taste. I think it satisfies the psychological…

I really feel for those having a bad time. I do think you have to try not to be de-motivated by a 4 or 5 pound gain. Heck it's possible to register those gains just with differences of stomach fill, hydration etc. That's why it SEEMS even though you stuck to your regime that you seemed to gain weight. I've found that…

CHOOSE not to eat chocolate. I'm not being a smart alec! I find if I make an active choice about something it doesn't bother me nearly as much. I did start eating dates instead of chocolate. Calorific content is still quite high but I am less inclined to continue eating. I agree with those recommending the 80 to 90% cocoa…

I eat Fuji apples. They are crisp and sweet. About 70 cals for an apple but a lot more satisfying than sweet (bad) snacks. I think also always keep in mind that your total calories are limited so you need to get the best out of every mouthful!

The problem with a bucket tear is that it can flip over and end up between the upper and lower bones of your leg. Then it wears the hell out of the cartilage. My knees are one heck of a mess anyway from sport but the bucket tear really did some damage.

Great stuff Leanne!

I used to attend some lectures (for want of a better word) given by a fellow who was an advocate of some easy meditation type techniques. He used to say willpower will fail of itself.. I forget the exact words but that was more or less it. This applied to doing anything but he used the specific example of dieting. So when…

Re sweets. I'm not sure 'resolve' is the way to beat it. It sounds like underneath it all the sweets still have control of you and if that is the case they will get you. Maybe not immediately. I've found that you have to CHOOSE. " I CHOOSE not to eat sweets". Say it! Visualise it! It's more active and puts you in control,…

Yeaah This is a recent note from my son who has lost a lot of weight and reshaped his body. May be his note might help The key for me has been to look at food as fuel. Aim to maximise nutritional benefit of each and every calorie. If u do this, its easy to keep things under control. Exercise is all well and good when…
