  • Roberta Flack The first time ever I saw your face I thought the sun rose in your eyes And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave To the dark and the endless skies Also 'Catch the Wind' Donovan Leitch When rain has hung the leaves with tears I want you near To kill my fears To help me to leave all my blues behind.…
  • Re nicolee's post...that doctor was very BIG on roasted veges!!!
  • This will not be helpful but it may help you not throw all the toys out of the cot. Make of it what you will. About 20 years ago i was going to a very smart doctor/naturopath who was way ahead of his time re diet etc. He reckoned it was a waste of time trying to lose weight through the winter as our bodies are designed,…
  • I'll say this much. I'm looking at investing in tattoo removal. It will be the greatest growth industry the world has seen since...tattoos.
  • Emile Coue reckoned willpower cannot overcome the sub-conscious. So we need to change our sub-conscious image of ourselves. Three Key Ideas of Émile Coué Every idea which exclusively occupies the mind is transformed into an actual physical or mental state. The efforts we make to conquer an idea by exerting the Will only…
  • I haven't had time to read the whole thread so maybe this has been said. One effect of artificial sweeteners is to induce a craving for sweet. Certainly there is a heightened desire for intake of carbohydrates following consumption of aspartame et al. There are many studies demonstrating this effect. In addition research,…
  • Oh also! One of the problems with a lot of dieting is that you get less ' taste' It gets boring. Someone else referred to this in a slightly different way in regard to treats and it is very relevant. One of the problems in modern society is we all tend to shop at these large supermarkets. The priority for the supermarket…
  • One of my biggest fears when "dieting" was feeling hungry I have this one still as a result of a childhood in which I was generally hungry. It's a hard one to kick. At meal times we had to scoff as much food as possible as quickly as possible. We did get hungry later. Now I try to remember to tell myself not to worry as I…
  • Admits to being old and not fashionable so my opinion on this really counts for zilch! Just personal thoughts.
  • Mate...good for you with the scruff. That's an individualist thing. It's the pretty boy Brad Pitt pretender 3 day growth look that irks me!
  • Yes! But now it's just a Film star image. The non-shavers are just pretty boys in disguise...largely!
  • Sorry! Didn't know how to work this reply thing! Yes ME time!
  • Absolutely...me time!
  • FWIW Quite a time ago I lost a lot of weight and kept it off for years. Amongst other things the doctor whose advice I was following recommended not to eat an hour before till an hour after a meal. Effectively your palate is part of telling you that you have had enough food. Drinking fluids while eating effectively cleans…
  • Tired, emotional, whatever = EAT....I just try to have nothing bad around the house!
  • Hi Lind You are confusing BMI and Body Fat%. The MFP number is BMI Body Mass Index. They are two different things. My experience of scales is that they are baloney as far as body fat% goes. Maybe some have better sets than I but I've found the readings to be both way out in number and inconsistent. The best way (I think)…
  • bump for ALL the recipes
  • Just my suggestion Ron... 1. Take a couple of photos of yourself in a pair of swimmers. Get a REAL picture 2. Go to the B&F pics and find a good one and keep it to look at every few days to remind you of what is possible. 3. Create a new self in your head that is similar to the 'after' pic. Visualise yourself as this new…
  • I use sparkling as a sort of wine substitute. I put a couple of slices of lemon in a nice wine glass, a couple of ice cubes, and then the sparkling water. It's a lot less cals than a glass of wine and really equally satisfying.
  • Aside from arguments about sparkling being bad for you I drink Santa Vittoria. Sodium content only 0.5 mg/L as against 5 to 10 for most waters. It's two main elements are Calcium and Magnesium both of which are good for you.
  • Agree! Don't be in a rush.. You are not just changing your weight. If you are to be successful and stay slim you are changing many things about yourself. So it is a very long term project. Be patient. You are feeling good...that's the main thing every day. Concentrate on that. The weight loss comes and goes. Who knows why?…
  • What everyone else said buy...just maybe... Many years ago a doctor who took a very holistic approach to health recommended a diet to me that was very effective. For mainly other reasons to do with digestion and acid secretion he recommended that I not drink in the period 20 minutes before a meal to 20 minutes after. I…
  • Withchaco. I've recorded this story here before however just for amusement ...years ago i was in a physiotherapist and was lying on a bed without a shirt on. I looked over at the bloke beside me and thought "At least i'm not as fat as that fat bloke' Then I realised i was looking at a mirror! MFP is sure a great help. The…
  • P.S. Sodium and potassium chloride are very similar salts. Sometimes what we interpret as a desire or craving for 'salt' is actually caused by a sodium/potassium imbalance with too much sodium. However the body just tells us 'salt' when what it is really asking for is Potassium.
  • In Aus we have a product called Lite-Salt. Common table salt is 100% Sodium Chloride. Lite-Salt is 50 % sodium Chloride and 50% Potassium Chloride. This helps keep a better balance of Sodium and Potassium in your body and may help while you are in the process or weaning yourself off 'salt'. . A good source of potassium in…
  • Hi again Karen You sound like you are doing very well anyway. A bit like the others I stay away from the carbs pretty much altogether except for the Suede potato. Just the same you are doing plenty of exercise so i wouldn't have thought it was much of a problem. I find my measurements do not act together. This goes down a…
  • I had a friend take a photo which bared all. I hadn't thought I looked too bad until that moment!!! Rejoined MFP and have been very diligent for about 2 months since.
  • Karen A doctor recommended to a friend of mine to eat some almonds. They help reduce stomach fat. I don't know his theory but he is a pretty smart bloke and for her it certainly helped. Still stick to your calories however. Almonds have fairly high calorific value. Also eat them a minimum of 30 mins before a meal. One…
