Oh no, not even close...lol (although I've been called things that indicate a merging of the 2 areas in question).....

Great swims, Folks!!!! Curly - it's more important to get some swimming in more often than it is to do 1 giant workout a week. You're doing things the right way & you're concentrating on form. Don't worry about the speed of improvements, stay focused on making the improvements properly..... All freestyle today: 250, 500,…

I can see that, when I'm swimming regularly I have noticeably less hair on my arms, legs & chest. Before I was wearing a bathing cap the hair on my head thinned way out too, but now it's thickened back out....
-
Welcome back, gently, good to see you again :)
-
Yet again, another great round of swimming posts, nice work all!!!! Choice #1 won out - I was able to do my full workout with the IM's that I was doing before the layoff. It was by no means as easy as it was when I left off, but it also was nowhere near as bad as I expected it to be. However, if I post nothing for the rest…

I'm hoping you're dead on & the exercises take care of it, I just don't want to see you wait too long.....
-
Yeah, I wouldn't be looking anything like that - more like 50 lbs. of crap stuffed into a 25 lb. bag.... I think "Budgy Smuggler" should be the brand name.... Saw a new one today - guy shows up wearing a bathing suit that looked like the "boy shorts" that the teenage girls wear. Thankfully, that was as I was leaving.....

Numbness in my feet led to the diagnosis of my auto immune disorder. I'm by no means saying that's what it could be - just pointing out that there are many different things that could cause a symptom like that. If the exercises don't do the job, follow up with a doctor....
-
Fantastic, great work!!!!
-
Yeah, the world ain't ready to this in a jammer - it would be a literal definition of the suit's name......
-
Some of us guys could probably use a "paternity" suit (bathing, that is) - especially some of the guys who come into the pool wearing Jammers or, God forbid, a Speedo......

I used to do that, but I would rather walk outdoors (weather permitting) or on the treadmill at home. Yay lifeguard!!! The one scheduled today made it, but then again she's been there awhile & knows we're there at opening. The usual freestyle today: 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 1500, 1000, 500, 250 (6500 yards) in 114 minutes. If…

You've got this. You already know what it is you need to do, so you're good there. You certainly don't need validation from anybody here. To me there's no sense doing all this work & being good so often if we can't allow ourselves the chance to still enjoy the things we like every once in awhile. The big difference between…

Great work Gutzy & Juliet..... I did NOT get to swim today, although I dragged my sorry *kitten* out of bed & went down to the pool the lifeguard thought it would be a great day to sleep in. Unfortunately, so did the rest of the lifeguards, the pool manager & the gym manager because none of them answered the phone when the…

Welcome to the group Kim, glad to see you hitting the water. You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be swimming more lengths if you swim on a regular basis. Great group of people here, just ask any questions you might have & I'm sure somebody here can answer for you....

Fantastic time drop, Kida_Adeylne, nice work!!!! Great swim, Bruce!!!! Stuck to the plan & stayed with all freestyle today - arms were heavy: 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 1500, 1000, 500, 250 yards in 114 minutes. Probably sticking to freestyle again tomorrow, then I'll see how I feel in the water Thursday & Friday. The plan is…

LOL, it was a really fast day ;-) Missed a "1" there, should have been 114 minutes.....
-
I did, indeed, swim today :D All freestyle (in yards): 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 1500, 1000, 500, 250 in 14 minutes... Plan (tentatively) is to stick to freestyle this week to shake the rest of the rust off & start doing IM's next week, although if I'm feeling strong enough Thursday or Friday I might move the timetable up.....
-
Good for you, Kida_Adeylne, best of luck with it - I know You'll have lots of fun & you'll surprise yourself with how well you do with it.....
-
Awesome, as always, Everybody!!!! No swim today, but starting tomorrow I'm back to it daily - I should get 5 days in this week....
-
I hear ya - that's why I just started asking how they counted & answered accordingly. Since it's not something I really care about it's just easier than having a misunderstanding....
-
Fantastic, Gutzy, glad you're taking care.....

Herein lies the rub - going back to when I was a kid learning to swim a lap was a length. The confusion came in when the runners started swimming because their legs couldn't stand the pounding anymore. A lap is traversing the course 1 time - in a pool that's a length. On a track, because you are going in a circle, a lap…

Just be careful of over rotating, you can put too much stress on the shoulder. It's good to feel that you're engaging all the way down to there, but if it starts to hurt then back it off just a little. A while back I was concentrating on lengthening my stroke & was really over reaching it - I was starting to get pain in…

Nice work, Everybody!!! Looking forward to Monday - I'll finally be back in pretty much every day.....
-
#1 - I have no idea what my heart rate is at, but I know it's higher than at rest...lol #2 - I don't use the equipment for a few reasons. First, I'm not necessarily looking to improve my swimming as much as I'm using my swimming for health & strength. Second, I had bilateral hip replacement 15 years ago & if I do kick sets…

Lengthening your stroke gives you the opportunity to "grab" more water for the pull, as well as use the length of the arm to create more resistance. This moves you further with each stroke, & to me is faster than flailing your arms fast & not getting much on the pull. The ideal is to get that long, strong pull at a quick…

AQ, it will help you on both ends - sprints & endurance. That's why when I'm swimming every day I alternate my days where I take out the sets of 1500 free & do IM's, just to mix things up & give my body something different at a different exertion level.... Gutzy, absolutely astounding - great job!!!! Juliet, nice…

Welcome, Zoelesley!!!! I think what you're doing is working just fine for you, going by the way you say you feel when you're done. Just be guided by what your body tells you about when it's time to ramp it up (or back it off) & you'll be fine....

Curly - I'm a life-long swimmer & (although I can) I don't bi-lateral breathe. I've always been a 4 stroke per breath freestyler & always breathe to my left side. I can breathe to my right side, but I don't find it nearly as comfortable so I don't bother since I'm not competing anymore. Truth be told, even if I was…
