  • Have no idea how accurate it is, but I googled "Calories burned based on Heart Rate" and got THIS CALCULATOR. http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx For God and Country, Steven
  • Does not look like either of these have GPS functioning, which is OK if you are not looking for that. For God and Country, Steven
  • Bump - Got it to work.
  • YUP. excellent site.
  • Good info. I didn't know the reasoning behind it, but I figured they were not accurate. Ditto. I definitely agree.
  • Doesn't sound right to me. It would take a 175 lb person 90 minutes to burn that running 10 min miles. I don't think it is right...but who knows? For God and Country, Steven
  • It would depend on how much you are wanting to spend. I know many people use Polar HR monitors. The watch kinds are the least expensive, the ones with the chest strap are more. If you run at all, I would suggest the Garmin Forerunner 310XT. I have the 205 now, which does not have HR, but am upgrading soon. It is a full…
  • I''m Cheap. Every winter I usually go to the Dollar store and pick up one of those glove/headwarmer sets. Don't wear the gloves for running, I get the cheap one-size-fits-all black gloves from the dollar store. One pair, two pair if it is cold. Works for me.
  • They may seem that way,, but they have a purpose. Many people start out of the gate way too fast. The first couple of weeks are just getting your body accustomed to running. While it is not the only program out there, it IS one, and if followed, it will work. If you find one that works for you, good on you. Whichever plan…
  • You were wise to say that it is not a good idea to compare yourself to others. Why would you sabotage your plan like that. This is YOUR plan. When you compare it to someone else, you are making an unfair comparison. Your body is not theirs. Your aerobic system is not theirs. They may be younger, stronger, weaker, older,…
  • "You ALL intimidate me so much! It's because you all seem to know what you're doing..." (hangs his head) Ha, If she only knew. :) Blessings, Steven
  • "While I was walking, this man living down the street I was walking decided to yell out "FASTER FATTY"... That pretty much killed it for me. " At least you were walking. Which is probably more of a workout than HE was going to get that day...on his way to Burger King..Ordering his strawberry shake and apple pie.... Do what…
  • "Fast food is my Achilles heel. On the days I'd feel down whether it be because the scale wasn't moving, or because LIFE in general had me down, I would turn to fast food. I'd say "one burger!"... then it was two... then three... Then the large fries... then the fudge sunday... And because I felt like such a failure for…
  • I like drymax myself. Really, just go to your local running store and see what they have. I know a lot of people that swear by Injinji. Never tried them myself.
  • I am SOOO in your corner. I LOVE running outside. Just me and the road. But I have always been intimidated by weights. Plus, I really don't care to be around a lot of people. i would much rather run outside and then workout in the house. Solitude is my friend. Blessings, Steven
  • You Go Girl!!!! Great job making the decision to get out there. My wife was about the same size as you are when she started her journey a couple of years ago. It took a lot of time in the gym, but she was able to do it. Did she feel conspicuous going to the gym?? YUP!! Did she care??? Yup, well at first anyway. Who…
  • Another Endomondo user here.
  • Just Keep on running. The first time out WILL seem tough, but you can do it. You might want to check into the couch to 5k (c25K) program. It starts out slow and builds. You can get through it. just keep going.
  • Training plans are just that. PLANS. No matter what plan you choose, you must tailor it to meet your abilities and needs. I say, skip forward.
  • If you have problems with ankle rolls I would suggest making sure that you land with you foot flat on the ground and not on your heel and then roll forward. This is a popular foot landing with Chi running or Prose running.
  • I know of many people that rely on their phone for their GPS tracking during their runs. I am not one of them. I just find taking my phone out with me too clunky. For someone who runs with music and their phone with them anyway, maybe, but I don't listen to music when I run. too distracting. When I have tried using my…
  • You may need to adjust your speed a little bit. If you get finished and are just too pooped to pucker, you may need to slow down slightly on the running intervals, and there is no shame in that. I have a hard time doing run/walk intervals because i tend to run too fast when I do them.
  • Great Job. keep up the good work.
  • There are some very good ones. I personally use Endomondo. Mayp my run is good. The most popular are Runkeeper and Strava, although strava seems more designed for biking and not running. Runningahead is very feature rich and is free from my understanding. I don't personally like the user interface on the website, but it is…
  • Here is a good article by Jeff Galloway. http://www.jeffgalloway.com/learn/black-toenail/
  • I personally don't like to eat within 2 hours prior to working out. Problems with dry throat? Chew a piece of gum until you get warmed up. When I run, I always get dry throat for the first .5 mile or so. I chew a half piece of gum which keeps the juices flowing. Once I get warmed up, I spit it out (I hate chewing gum.).
  • Let me start by saying that I am by NO stretch of the imagination a fitness expert. How long you should work out depends on what you are doing. If walking, I would say that starting at an hour should not pose an issue. If you are running or biking, then I would have some concerns. If you are wanting to start running, I…
  • Runkeeper is a good site. Grant you that, but it is not "free across the board". If you want the advanced features, you must upgrade to the elite plan for $20/year. The features that you get for $20/year, you have for free in sportstracks. Plus, when your data is entrusted to an online company, they have control. What if…
  • A half would take aprox 2:30 -3:00 hours. Maybe a little more, maybe little less. Just depends on your speed. Based on your 6k time, Mcmillan (http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/) predicts your finish in 2:52. If you are still new to running, I would recommend Jeff Galloway's Run/Walk method.…
  • Not Garmin related, but if you do get a Garmin, you have GOT to download sportstracks. If you are a data geek like I am, it is a must. It installs locally on your computer so that no matter what the various websites do with your data, you have a copy of everything you have done. http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/sporttracks/…
