If you want a snack get one, especially if you're going to be up more than 2 or 3 more hours. If you're preparing for bed within an hour I'd say skip the snack.

Congrats!! Since I started running again I have noticed all my clothes fitting bigger.

Here's a recipe I like. It's more of a salad, but it could be a snack too. Carrots in Lemon-Walnut Vinaigrette from Healthy Cooking for Two (Or Just You) by Frances Price, RD. Page 92 Ingredients: 1 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice 1/4 tsp Dijon Mustard 1 tsp Walnut or Canola Oil 3/4 cup Carrots, coarsely grated to taste Salt to taste…

I think a good rule of thumb is if the food has the word "fast" in it then it's probably not good for you and high in calories. I assume most people here are using smart phones. Some time back I downloaded an application for the iPhone that lists all the foods for most major fast food restaurants and gives the nutritional…

Hello Chelsea. I'm new to this whole thing. Keeping motivated has always been my problem. I've recently started running races and cooking more meals. I don't want to become a food nazi, but I am keeping an eye on what I put in my body.

Welcome to MyFitnessPal. I joined just a few days ago and am impressed with how user friendly this application and website is. Just got on the message boards tonight and the support is great. Good luck!

They don't teach us in school about how to eat right and business is more interested in profits than what's good for us. The whole campaign, "You Are What You Eat" couldn't be more true. I feel like I never stop eating and I consume somewhere around 3,000 calories daily. I also work a physically demanding night job which…

I started running again in November, but did not worry too much about eating. I have slowly started to cook more and eat less processed food. I will not become a food nazi, but I do want to eat better. I saw something posted about this app for the iPhone and decided to give it a try. I am somewhat amazed at how many…

Hello Mark. Congratulations on a new life. The body begins to heal itself 15 minutes after your last cigarette. Amazing! K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid. I first heard the acronym when I was in sales a decade ago. What you're doing is great, but be careful of making too many changes too quickly. It can sometimes be a…

Hello. I too am impressed with this site and the iPhone application so far. Like you, I signed up less than a week ago. I've been running since November and have seen quite a bit of change. Weightwise, I've dropped anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds. I'm really not sure. I've decided to start eating better along with my running.…

I'm reading Hal's book, "Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide" and it seems his training schedule is designed just to finish. Of course I'm only 100 pages into the book right now and that is my focus. I am not really following much of a training schedule myself and due to run my first half marathon in a month. I've been…
