The only exercise I'm allowed to do because of some medical issues is walk 5,000 steps/day according to my FitBit. I've lost 30 lbs (well, 34 before that binge but that's another story for another day).

Just finished A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. Highly recommend it.

Dr. Oz alert! This is a guy who was called in front of Congress a while back for being less than honest about diet supplements. Did he explain why adding all this extra fat is great for your brain? I tend not to take him or his claims seriously.

How can this be possible? Are there any independent studies that back this up?

I'm not allowed to weigh myself. I see my doctor every one or two months and he weighs me there. I am in recovery from an ED and when I told him that I was weighing myself twice a day and making adjustments to the next day's food based on the night time weight he made me bring my scale in to him and promise not to weigh…

For some of us, even those of us with insulin resistance and other factors working against us, it is about calories in vs. calories out.

Can you explain how this helps with an eating disorder? It seems to me that this is a form of disordered eating that would not help someone with an ED move towards recovery. I could be wrong but it goes against everything I learned when I was in treatment.

I went through intensive treatment at an ED clinic and now I see a therapist twice a month and my regular doctor once a month. Specifically, what helped me the most was CBT and DBT.

I'm curious as to where you got the 1310 calories/day. I did a quick check at http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator but don't know your height so I put in 5'5' but at 220, I calculated (TDEE - 20%) at around 1600 calories/day. I guessed at activity level so your numbers may vary. As for perimenopause, it happens.…

I'm in recovery for an eating disorder and to be honest, I am surprised that anyone is talking about BMI or weight when it seems that you're still very much in your disorder. I would talk to your treatment team to ask why they even have you looking at numbers and using them as goals. There should be other measures they use…

If I had to pick just one it would be Doritos. Any flavor - I'm not fussy.

I cringe and try to put on a polite smile because when someone comments on my weight loss it just reminds me of how much more I have left to go.

Haven't read all the replies. No time. Probably repeating something that's already been said. The title of your post is inherently inflammatory: So if I'm not eating clean, I don't have a healthy lifestyle? That's why I criticize and judge clean eaters. They look down on those of us who enjoy a burger or other unclean food…

I'm just coming out of a couple of weeks off the wagon. I logged breakfast and lunch and maybe dinner but left out a lot of things like drinks, condiments, snacks. I was probably only eating 2000 calories/day instead of my allotted 1550 and I gained five pounds like you. I snapped out of it and started logging everything…

It seems to me that several posters on this thread, myself included, do know a little something about WLS. I was thisclose to having it until I changed my mind. At hospital where I went, we had to have months of counseling before getting the surgery and the point is to discourage as many people as possible from having it.…

Duplicate post. Nothing to see here.

Well, why not go to an endocronoligist who does specialize in hormone imbalances? They're usually fertility specialists and will understand your problems better than anyone. I went to one and found out a helluva lot more about what was happening in my body than five doctors, one acupuncturist and one herbalist put together.

I used pills about 15 years ago. A doctor prescribed Adderral even though I don't have ADD or ADHD. I didn't eat or sleep but I lost a ton of weight before I realized that it's speed and I was hyped up on a medication that was hurting my brain and my body.

Why do you care so much about what I eat? I am just done with peole lecturing me about processed foods. I work up to nine hours a day, have an hour commute each way and have to help care for a parent on the weekends. Processed foods are a godsend to me.

I make 2 minute air popped popcorn. I take plain popcorn kernels, put them in a brown sandwich bag, fold the bag over a couple of times, and put in the microwave with the folds facing down for a couple of minutes until you only hear one pop every few seconds. Remove from microwave and enjoy! If I'm not too lazy sometimes…

My average day is barely 3,000 steps so I have to make an effort to get to 5,000 (doctor recommended number). I don't get on a treadmill. I just walk around my neighborhood after dinner or do chores that make me move around.

I just finished Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore and really liked it. I loved the story, didn't love a lot of the characters. It was a quick read and lots of fun.

I spent almost a decade with an illness that was misdiagnosed by several doctors. Each one of them put me on different medications and some of those made me balloon like a whale. I went from a hyper-athletic, competitive tennis player to a depressed, morbidly obese person in that decade. I'm so sorry to have inconvenienced…

Actually, eating disorders are parity conditions in the DSM-V which may make having one a disability. I know that when I was in treatment for mine, the HR department told my boss and project managers that they had to make reasonable accomodations so I could go to my program. That sounds a lot like ADA speak to me.
