You should recalculate every 5lbs of change. It won't be much, but it will change. Also reminds you to make changes incase you life changes, like you get more active either at work or home. Summer is coming, long walks, dancing, roller blading, swimming, all of these burn calories, and if you start doing them more often…

Trying to understand this. By your logic, I should not count walking, I should only count running, because running burns a higher numbers of calories, totally ignoring the calories burnt walking. This is like suggesting that I shouldn't bother planning for fuel burnt while I am driving at 5mph going off roading in the…

The data you gave it indicates that on average you burn 1570 cals per day. This number is called TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) And then you selected 20% below the amount you burn in a day. So, for every 100 cals you burn in the course of a normal day, you will eat 80 cals, meaning you will have to draw 20 cals from…

Fellrnr is an ultrarunner, and came in 4th in the Graveyard 100 last week. He is always reviewing running gear and products. http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Shoes

It is still broken. Jogging/running 30 mins @ 4mph = 1552 cals 30 mins @ 5mph = 345 cals 30 mins @ in place = 345 cals (So jogging in place is the same as 5mph? No way...well maybe if I do high knees the entire time) 30 mins @ 5.2mph = 388 cals 30 mins @ 10mph = 690 cals Walking 30 mins @ 4mph = 216 30 mins @ 4.5mph = 272

Yes. Mind you, it is not a perfect thing. Things can cause your weight to yoyo. At one point I walked in the gym, hit the scale, lifted weights, ran 5k, and as I was getting my last drink I hit the scale again. I gained 2lbs while in the gym, because I'd been sucking down water left and right. Water is about 8lbs per…

You are trying to lose that last 10lbs, so aim for 0.5lbs/week, as that will make it real easy to transition into maintenance, which is much better than the whole yoyo thing people trying to lose 2lbs/week for every single last lb do, because they have no idea of what they need to eat to stay at the level they want. Y…

Seems to be a thing: http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/en/portal/questions/5901663-calculation-error-?new=5901663

It is. And looking at what I just got something went wonk with their system, as it tells me I'd burn 2000+ doing it. It should be around 374 for me, at 190lbs.

I am pretty happy with Bodymedia Link, it covers steps, time in moderate & vigorous activity levels, shows you the info in cals & METs, and links into MyFitnessPal. And if you have one of the compatable heart rate monitors, it shows that as well. http://www.bodymedia.com/activity_manager_demo.html

I think that is because you don't know how to make cheap healthy meals. Try this site (Navigation is weird...but hey) http://agirlcalledjack.com/category/recipes-food/ And read this to understand where she is coming from: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/jan/07/jack-monroe-ready-meal-challenge

I know what it is like when money is tight, but you can find digital scales on Amazon for $6-10. http://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-Digital-BL-1KG-BLK/dp/B0012N1NAA/ref=lp_289787_1_1/188-4968000-0203218?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1394659829&sr=1-1

Woman at my gym benches & deadlifts more weight than me (I am just starting to try and add strength, so 115lbs & 185lbs on my part) She attends the local university. She is one of the little cheerleaders (5'4") they toss way up in the air. She is not bulky at all, and bends like Gumby. And if you did find yourself thinking…

Quit eating only low cal, diet food. Really, cover a piece of celery with peanut butter, use real ranch dressing, drink a non-diet soda, eat a big old biscuit smothered in butter, have some beer cheese soup, drink a couple of cocktails, or a large mocha made with whole milk and whipped cream at Starbucks...oh and one of…

Medical groups pretty much suggest getting in at least 30 min of moderate exercise each day. Walking done at around 3mph or higher, counts as moderate exercise. Going slower on rougher ground also counts as moderate exercise. Say going 2.5mph uphill. Doctors are always telling folks they need to lose some weight, get more…

Had not looked at the link you had (I linked to the treadmill page), but now that I have, yeah, same "Fool people into installing our software" advertising on the podcast page as well. Because nothing says "Quality Product" like having to trick people into installing your software.

Hints at how to eat higher calories on days you needed to eat at maintenance: non-diet Ranch Dressing, a cookie or 2, some real ice cream, a little more wine. In no time at all you can cover that extra 200-300 cals, and enjoy it.

***do not click on either of the "Download" buttons on the linked page...unless you want to download software that has nothing at all to do with C25K*** Print this out (or copy by hand) http://www.c25k.com/c25k_treadmill.html Cut each days notes out so you can take just that one with you (less confusion when glancing at…

Hate to tell you, but there are just as many of the kids who aren't vaccinated on the coasts as well. NY & CA are in the top 3 states for un-vaccinated kids. And some of them are not Christians. But they are most likely in a family that is a family with an older college educated mother, white, and earning over $75k/year,…

Exactly. It doesn't matter what the activity is, or if you are being really intense about it, just take into account that it is more of your energy expenditure. I don't get the whole TDEE as a same number every day thing, because some days I just sit (2100cals) and others I am more active (3200cals). I adjust my food…

I normally get hot and sweaty when I am cleaning. Nothing like de-furring 12'x20' carpet with a 3" slicker brush to work up a burn in the arms. But even if I am just doing a light dusting I normally wind up dancing.

Sign into the website, go to the activity manager, up at the top you will see where it says today's date on the left, then Today, and then Specific Date. Click on Specific Days, and pick "Last 28 days", and then OK. It will pull up all the data for you. Click on the arrow on the left of each category for more detailed info…

What does Bodymedia give you as an average cal burn over the last 28 days? That will give you a good idea of your TDEE. You can find out by clicking on Specific Days, and picking last 28 days. And go back one day, as today is incomplete, meaning pick March 4. My current average is 2964, with 2:07 mod activity, and 0:08…

Attempting to add some science to the mix https://sites.google.com/site/compendiumofphysicalactivities/Activity-Categories/home-activity Also be sure to check out the "Corrected METs" page to get a better idea of what a MET is [because (VO2 ml.kg-1.min-1)/(3.5 ml.kg-1.min-1) doesn't mean much to most of us], and activity…

Another option is Bodymedia, which is more closely related to what you'd find in a clinic. Counts my steps, but also can tell the difference between me walking up the stairs, and me walking up the same stairs with a 50lb backpack on. http://www.bodymedia.com/activity_manager_demo.html

I like trying out odd body weight things, just to try them. This morning I did tricep extension pushups. Basically, normal plank position, elbows under shoulders, arms pointing away from feet, palms down. Now raise up to a pushup, and then back down to elbows. Eventually this will lead to a superman pushup, where I lay…

So what we learned from the responses is: that it taste different, but not bad, is great if you are following low calories or low fat, but not so much so if you want tons of protein. So like everything else, it may or may not be right for you.

And we have a winner! Last couple of months I've weighed pretty much the same...and yet my pants are loser (Based on the belt I wear needing a new hole punched in it), calipers say I have less body fat, and I am starting to see more definition. And the whole time eating at a deficit. If I am losing fat, getting smaller,…
