How many calories do you burn when you run?

I am new to My Fitness Pal, and I love this program! It is so easy to enter real foods-not just packaged foods like some programs!
I do have one little problem. I entered a 40 minute jog (15 minute miles-a pretty leisurely pace). My Fitness Pal said I burned 1430 calories on that run. That seems way too high to me.

One calculater estimates weight times 0.63 is calories per mile. It depends on how far you ran and how much you weigh.

I don't know your weight, but it does sound quite high.

Was it an entry for Running @ 4mph (a 15 min mile) or a 15mph run? That seems high, look for another exercise entry to use or buy yourself a heart rate monitor for better accuracy.

    It is.
And looking at what I just got something went wonk with their system, as it tells me I'd burn 2000+ doing it. It should be around 374 for me, at 190lbs.

This is what I go by, it matches pretty close to my HRM. I trust the formula a little more than the HRM just because I run in cold/hot temps and that changes accuracy of the HRM.

I use the calories burned calculator at runnersworld.com. for about an hour and a half run (18k) I got 1300 ish calories burned according to that thing....I suppose it would depend on how much you weigh

I can't honestly say I've ever burned that much in even an hour.. Def seems way high. I'd try another calculator or maybe take it for about half of what it says tbh

    Approx 1300 per hour @ 250lbs

0.63 x weight in lbs = calories burned per mile. It's an estimate (differences in bodies, stride efficiency, speed, incline, wind, etc. can all shift things around a bit), but gets you in the ball park. Unless you are 800 lbs or so, it's WAY off.

POLAR FT80 HR tends to stay around 160bpm with some deviation up and down

    It is still broken.
    Jogging/running
    30 mins @ 4mph = 1552 cals
    30 mins @ 5mph = 345 cals
30 mins @ in place = 345 cals (So jogging in place is the same as 5mph? No way...well maybe if I do high knees the entire time)
    30 mins @ 5.2mph = 388 cals
    30 mins @ 10mph = 690 cals

    Walking
    30 mins @ 4mph = 216
    30 mins @ 4.5mph = 272

I'd go with this. Pretty close to what I get per mile going 5-6 mph per my Polar FT4 HRM

I think it all depends on the person. I run roughly at a 10.30 minute/mile pace and burn a little over 100 calories for every mile I run. If you can get yourself a heart rate monitor that will help you and it's a good motivator too.

According to my HRM I'm at or slightly more than 100 cals/mile. It will vary due to hills, total mileage that day, how windy it is etc.

    I typically run 11:30-12mm.

That seems really high. I know it varies but the average is usually about 100 calories per mile.
