  • I started at 300, and am down to 177. Feel free to add me.
  • A slow recomp is going to be easier to maintain and does work, but is a very slow process, as stated above. If you're looking for rapid fat loss/muscle gain, then the tried-and-true bulk/cut is the way to go.
  • One thing I'd suggest as well is ensuring that you're properly isolating your biceps and triceps by using an appropriate amount of weight. I've lost count of the number of people I've seen at the gym that slap far too much weight on the barbell, and start rocking their hips in more of a flinging motion to get the bar up,…

  • Agreed. There's no need to be getting all up in arms.

  • Agreed. The fun thing about studies is that if you decide to go on ahead and take a "shotgun" approach to the study you're conducting, you can find all kinds of correlation, but not necessarily causation. I'm inclined to think of that scene from the Simpsons where Lisa tells Homer that because there are no tigers around,…
  • ...have you actually snuck into my room at some point?
  • An untouched box of Isagenix products that they threw in there after the last detox/cleanse MFP thread.
  • Agreed Agreed. There should never be any reason, short of at the advice of a healthcare professional, to drop below 1200 calories per day.
  • 60g is much, much too low, especially if you're trying to lose weight. You should be consuming a minimum of 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass on your body, in order to retain lean body mass while reducing your body fat.
  • Agreed. These are probably the three largest contributors to this phenomenon for those that focus only on scale weight. Speaking as someone who's come from the century club themselves, I can also say that if you have loose skin, it can serve to give the appearance of fat, or exaggerate the appearance of how much fat is…
  • Yes, but not for any fun reasons (contracted a serious case of the flu while in NYC one year). Ever fudged your MFP entries because you know that what you ate was far too embarrassing to log in your diary?
  • If they can promise me no status updates regarding detoxes or cleanses.
  • CW: 177 HT: 6'1" GW: 197 Age: 32 Whoever my twin is, he's one lucky fella.
  • Only if an Arrowroot cookie counts. Have you ever been walked in on while singing in the shower?
  • While CI/CO is the main tenet of weight loss/gain, if you are hitting your macros solely on McDonalds and Pop-Tarts, I assure you, you *will* feel like crap. Your insulin and hormones will be all out of whack, and you'll feel like utter garbage. That being said, "eating clean" is a meme that circulates any given fitness…
  • As much as I like the colour blue, sorry man.
  • Many people do this. I prefer having larger meals, so I practice intermittent fasting, with 4-5 large meals between noon and 6pm. If you can live on one meal a day, then go for it, but if you're training as well, you might want to look into BCAA supplements to avoid potential muscle loss from exercising while fasted.
  • This is totally on point. Often, people take the approach of just trying to lean themselves out in a question for visible abs, but at the end of the day, your abs are a muscle group like any other, and need to be trained with appropriate resistance if you want them to "pop". I've managed to make my way to a 4-pack (6, if I…
  • I think this is the slippery slope that many people fall into (myself included) and is why I save what little drinking I do anymore for cheat meals and special occasions. I haven't had a drink in months.
  • That's inspirational, but to ultimately equate this to "muscle soreness = muscle gains" is broscience. Muscle soreness is due to an accumulation of lactic acid, and has little to do with actual muscular damage and, ultimately, reparation and growth.
  • Whenever someone has said this to me (particularly on a cheat day), I stare at them defiantly, and, without breaking eye contact, try to jam as large and disgusting a mouthful of the food in question into me as I can possibly muster.
  • I think the purpose of the question might've been more "will the database contain Canadian products?" ie. for foods that are up here in the Great White North, even if the same brand is available to our neighbours to the south, there are occasions where they have different nutritional information, and/or aren't available.…
  • 1800 is definitely low for an ETP (Eat to Perform) diet/training regimen. To me, it sounds like you've got two different (and incompatible) concurrent goals: you're not going to be able to train for performance while on cutting calories, and not feel absolutely miserable. You're going to have to do one of two things to…
  • I have no clue when I'm being flirted with. Friends (particularly female ones) usually have to clue me in - I'm oblivious.
  • At the end of the day, I don't know of any scientific study that proves the efficacy of supposed his/her protein supplements. Really, it's about what's most effective for you. The considerations, to me, are: a) taste b) ratio of grams of protein to serving size (don't let the superficial claims on the label fool you, and…
  • At the end of the day, your abdominal fascia is a muscle group like any other, and needs to be subjected to progressive overload, ie. resistance training, in order to grow. This is like saying "you don't need to work your biceps to have visible definition". While this in itself is true, you can lean right out and have the…
  • This. Per my profile pic, I'd like to think I'm on my way toward a decent set of abs, and I'll be damned if I'm about to give up my daily afternoon treat: a 4-pack of Oreos.
  • You, sir, are too much. Every time I read a post, I ask myself a question, only to scroll down and see that you've inevitably beaten me to it.
  • I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but it might be caffeine withdrawal.
