I've found that I can make my side stiches go away during my run by watching my breathing. Make sure to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth - very slowly and controlled. If i do this when I notice a stich coming on, I'm almost always able to get it to stop.

I was having this problem last year - that, along with general upper back pain when sitting at my desk. I ended up going to a physical therapist who said it was from poor posture and weak muscles in my upper back. You may want to see a chiropractor/physical therapist - it helped me a lot.

As the others mentioned, shoes are the most important. I always have issues with my shins, as well. I suggest getting a foam roller to roll out your calves everyday, as well as massaging your calves. Are you taking a multi vitamin? I was having a hard time sleeping for awhile until I stopped taking my multi vitamin before bed. Some of the vitamines, like Vitamin B & D can sometimes affect your sleep.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think the bottom line is that I'm lifting to maintain and strengthen the muscle I already have. I really have no need to "build" muscle. I think I was getting hung up on the words lifting heavy - assuming you would only lift heavy if you wanted to get more muscle.

I never thought about that - if I really need to build muscle or not. I just assumed I would need to because I can't lift much and I'm so soft. But maybe I just need to develop the muscles I already have, as you said.

I have been doing a 45 minute interval workout that I found online. I usually run at a 6.0 but this workout challenges me to go up to 7 and 8 for short periods of time. The 8.0 level is hard, but I just usually bump it down when it gets tough. I'm hoping in the next few weeks I'll be able to do the whole thing at the level…
