Had GBS in 2006, lost 120lbs, gained back 45lbs. Need to get back on track - looking for a group that will give support. Are people still around?

Wow, the name for this post is so appropriate! I was fairly active here QUITE a while ago, then life happened. Work slowed down last August/September, I was laid off in October right as I got back from a cruise, found a new job, started in February and was let go last Friday. I'm not as mad about the job as my husband is…

I'm striving to be more of a part of the community, just because we need to keep encouraging each other.

Hi Marie - I'm back on this board after a long absence. You can read my story in the Checking In post, but I struggle with being hungry all the time! I envy those who'd had the surgery say they were never hungry, or "forgot to eat" - what is that!? :-) For me, spending time on here talking about the struggle helps keep me…

Great success! Congrats! For me, being at a hotel without close dining options, or a microwave in the room has hurt me. I have a goal in mind - Kuaui - and have been better about buying meals from a grocery store, or getting take out from a place that will list nutrition. I'm always leery of restaurants though. Sure, it…

That was awesome, I need to send the same letter to the Dark Chocolate Milanos.

One of the reasons I love MFP is the amount of food items already loaded into the system, and the ability to scan before I eat. I'm a Sunday - Thursday traveler (wish I could get to my client in a reasonable amount of time Monday morning...). I'm lucky enough to be in one place for a longer period of time. But it still…

I'm on the road 75-100% each month. I find travel days to be hardest, since I travel from DEN to PHL each week, then drive to my client site, the options seem to be 1) airport food and 2) fast food crap. Other than that, at the hotel I always ask for a fridge and if I'm sharing a car, make sure I ask for a trip to the…

I'm wearing pants today that haven't fit this good in years, and it's because I've been concentrating more on what I'm eating and writing it all down. It's not easy, you have to be committed, but it does work.

Congrats! I'm now down 13.2 lbs after a 45-50lb weight gain after my surgery in 2006. Already feeling better about what I'm doing.

I don't. Heck, I tried to do w/out snacks, but I get way too hungry, and then when I can eat, I eat too fast, and too much.

I agree with getting your own scale. I have no idea what Boots is, but if it's a scale others have used often, I can guarantee it's not calibrated and it's not weighing you correctly.

Apple Pecan Salad - full size, throw away one packet of dressing, and skip the pecans. Under 500 calories, and 35+grams of protein. Plus, yummy!

No liquid calories is interesting - I've been doing a protein shake a couple times a week just to get my protein in.
-
I'm pretty open with all my friends, or anyone who asks - I need protein above all. I eat the meatball first, and most of the times don't have room for the pasta, although I've been known to eat some. You can't avoid all situations.

I too chew very thoroughly, because if I don't it's like I swallowed a baseball and I feel like I'm having a heart attack. A couple times of forgetting the chew slowly, or dumping after thinking "it's just fruit in the pie, I'll be fine!" put me off a lot of bad behaviors. I think the problem lies with my friends ordering…

If I have enough calories in the day, I let myself splurge, however I'm more motivated to fill up with good foods. Why eat a donut when I can save the calories for a healthy dinner out with my husband, and maybe have a glass of wine?? Moderation - that's what I keep telling myself.
-
My problem is ordering dinner, and only eating half - I take it home, completely planning to eat for lunch or dinner the next day. At midnight the food demons start calling my name and I get very hungry - the food never makes it to the next day. My husband even made a joke about it when we left the restaurant yesterday.…

From what I understood, it's supposed to reset your hypothalmus (sp?), but from what I've seen, once you stop the 500 cal/day you gain it back. Had three friends on it and one felt like she was PMSing the whole time because she was so moody. All gained back a large portion of the weight.

I don't know why it won't let me type the nickname for "Richard"...

I bought something like this at ****s Sporting Goods a couple years ago: http://www.diamondback.com/bikes/hybrid/2009-hybrids/edgewood-09/ It's a hard-tack and I've taking it on some rougher trails around town, mountains (not the high energy mountain biking though) and I ride a lot of the road. We're about the same…

I am on Lamictal, and it's not supposed to have any weight gain associated to it, but that's just not true. Plus, the birth control makes me gain weight too.
