  • I've lost 20-25 since last year. I lost about 30 in 6 months, gained 10 back in 2 months, lost it again over 2 months, then gained it back during November and December :P Currently just under 190 pounds when I started at 210 last year. Currently I don't really care about weight loss, I am more focused on fat loss and…

  • If you can't use a gym, try this: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/ If you keep at this with your eating routine, you'll be golden and should lose that extra weight in a few months, plus probably get some nice toning. Just remember to eat back your exercise…
  • Yes. You look pretty much the same in both pics, but gun to my head I'd say curvy.
  • You're doing great! If you're working out a lot and you haven't been doing it recently I'm sure some of it is water weight, your muscles retain more water when you start a new exercise routine. Honestly, don't get too hung up on the weight, especially if you're looking better! Drink more water, that could help. It will…
  • Seconded! In fact, everything she said is perfect. Just keep at or under your calorie goal most days, eat back exercise calories and keep SLOWLY pushing your exercise goals over each month [go a bit further or faster]. Also seconding nerdfitness.com they have some great workout ideas if you don't have a gym. Lastly, the…
  • Yogurt and oats are good. I usually just do cereal and milk because I start right off and need the carbs to get me going, but bacon and eggs are also not too bad. Quality turkey bacon is good, we have a nice local source that makes AWESOME turkey. Fruit, nuts, yogurt. Oatmeal is great! A big tub of the instant oats with…
  • I'd second this, in terms of really good information and routines this is a great way to go! I found it to be more detailed than Stronglifts, and more suited for beginners.
  • Oh yeah, I think I'm doing that now. It's 3 days a week. Basically, you squat and bench press the same day, then overhead press and deadlift the other day, alternating: A Squat 5/3/1 Bench Press 3x5 Assistance work: Abs, rows, tricep press, lunges, leg press, flys... B Deadlift 5/3/1 Overhead Press 5/3/1 Assistance work:…
  • Yes, it is. I wasn't referring to your post though, rather the people with $10000+ a month in bills, but families get expensive fast. I'm living with 2 roommates and staying well within my means, putting away at least 1/6th of my salary every month for a rainy day.
  • That's what, about 4 cuil? ‽‽‽‽
  • And I thought living in CA was expensive. My rent and utilities are around $700, student loans and CC is about $1000, then $500 for random stuff [food, gas, what have you].
  • Yep! I keep sodium down by eating lots of veggies, make a salad for lunch most days, cook my own meat, and eat veggies and fruit for snacks. Don't worry about sugar from fruit, it's not refined so it's not as bad as sugar from processed foods. Also drinking lots of water helps with the sodium.
  • I'd go for Starting Strength or New Rules of Lifting for Women. Get the books, they explain so much and really, really help. Stronglifts is alright, but doesn't go into the detail of how to troubleshoot the exercises like the other books.
  • Tuna! I buy it in bulk at Costco and just make tuna salad or omelets. That gets you lots of protein with much less fat. Also smoked salmon is real cheap at costco too. You can also find a fish market. I'm lucky to have one right by my house that is pretty great. Eat a can or 2 of tuna a week and that will help a lot and…
  • Mixed grip, switch the over/under after each set. Though recently I've been using a trap bar for all of my dead lifts because my gym has one, so with those I just hold it overhand. It's pretty nice, no banged up knees and I feel like I'm really in control. Highly recommended.
  • Finally have time to jump on the bandwagon! Yes, though I personally feel more fat than ugly. As I lose weight I find my face, shoulders, arms and legs to look better, but I still see that same pudgy stomach that always made me feel unattractive. It's going down and I'm definitely in the best shape of my life, and only…
  • I'm about 5 pounds away, hit the goal last month and decided to start bulking to build more muscle. I'm 6', 185ish and was eating 1800-1900 cals/day in early November, upped that to 2200-2400 cals/day in December, which I think is my maintenance. I eat back my exercise cals and am going for a surplus, so I'll probably…
  • I had the same thing happen, just got super busy in November and went to the gym all of twice. Now I've gone every other day this week and will keep it up! You're great and you can do it! But it's gotta come from you and you've got to make the time. That was something I didn't do last month, but it's something I'll be…
  • That's my goal. I'm hoping that 1 serving at a meal, less carbs, eating slowly, maybe skipping a dessert here or there, and ignoring the snacks should cover it. Not the booze though, that's never in moderation :P
  • Well, she's planking sooooooo...yes!
  • Congrats on the loss. Move your net up to 1200 for a week, then 1400 the next week. You might gain a pound back, don't worry about it because once your body gets used to it again you'll start losing again. You're not wrecking your metabolism, but if you keep doing this for months it could have negative side effects. Just…
  • Yes. I never really get too attached to the exact numbers because every day I burn less, and there's also no possible way for all of my food to be exactly the same amount of calories, so I figure ±100 calories each day is a good acceptable range. I also never weigh my food, it's all just guesses. Still lost weight so I…
  • Thanks! Saving this for now!
  • I'd cut first. Keep lifting so you can maintain your strength and you'll get stronger slowly, and just cut cut cut until your bf% is where you want or a little bit below. When you start gaining and bulking, you'll end up where you want to be. You'll also be better at lifting so bulking won't be so hard, then you can cut…
  • If you just need a little computer and use google apps like gmail, get a chromebook. They're super inexpensive, very light and great for email, browsing the web and that kind of stuff. Plus you can do all your word processing stuff online with google docs and google drive. If you need more of a laptop because you use…
  • I hate when I get to the gym and forget my towel. That thing is so useful and I feel useless without it. Also when my headphones slip out or break. Recently mine have started coming apart and shock my ears from all the static electricity in my shorts/sweats. Not fun. Always annoyed at the people who use 2-3 stations or…
  • You can do it, the biggest thing is to just eat less. If you eat less and just weight train 3 days a week you can do it, the cardio just helps you have more calories so you can eat more. Log and plan your meals, it makes it a lot easier to follow your calorie goals each day. You really don't need cardio, just eat in your…
