I've gotten a lot out of the work of Kathryn Hansen (brainoverbinge.com), Amy Johnson (dramyjohnson.com) and others who write about changing habits. Basically, the more you "dismiss" urges the more they fade. The idea is that every time you obey an urge, you strengthen the neural circuitry that supports the habit.

Great steer on the grilled chicken wrap. Will try soon. Small chili is my mainstay at Wendy's. Jr. cheeseburger also a good deal, caloriewise at 280 w/16 gms protein. For when you really must have a cheeseburger. Doesn't do too much damage.

I'm guessing that your success will totally inspire him. Completely agree with people here who are saying it's your life and your body and your responsibility. Go for it and best of luck to you!

I have this Aroma rice cooker: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WQ9YNO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 $30 and it's fantastic. I love that it cooks brown rice perfectly. I like to experiment with different stocks and seasonings. So convenient.

Skinny pretzels are my go to. They're called "pretzel slims" at Trader Joe's. Snack Factory also makes them and calls them "pretzel crisps." It feels like you're eating a lot, even though the cals are low. You can dip them in hummus or eat them with cheese. I also like grapes and cherries because they're sweet. I usually…

I like the description of "food with no brakes." Good one!

fitnessblender.com is great and free!

This may be ridiculous, but maybe your snacks aren't boring enough. For me, if I knew chips, which I love, were close by I'd eat them - right away. Fruit, veggies, hard boiled eggs, etc. aren't "thrilling" enough for me to gobble them up before they're scheduled.

I SO agree with this. Food can be entertainment, and food can be fun, but the first few bites are always the best. You don't need to eat yourself into oblivion to enjoy it. You can eat anything you want. The key is tracking and keeping those quantities in check. Realizing that was really freeing for me.

We've all been there. The thing that keeps me going now is taking a few minutes to close my eyes and try to imagine my future self with all the weight gained back. I can really feel so vividly how depressed I'd be knowing how much work I just wasted and how I'm going to have to do it all over again. You don't want to go…

I'm 67 and have lost 59 lbs. I've bumped cals down from 1400 to 1300, but the loss is really slow. About 5 lbs a month now. I can live with it because I want it to be reasonably comfortable. I'm trying to ratchet up exercise. Getting into Nia and Zumba Gold. I walk, too. But, wow, the metabolism. Sheesh. SO slow. I could…

Mine stayed at 6.2 for six months. Did not budge. Six months after that it dropped to 5.5. Don't give up - it can take awhile.

One other suggestion, and I'm not being facetious. Watch My 600 lb. Life episodes. I know I got a good sense of where I could end up if I didn't get a grip.

This has kept me going more times than I can count: Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Pick your hard. I believe it's from Martha Beck. Her book, The Four-Day Win: End Your Diet War and Achieve Thinner Piece, is excellent.

I decided last year that I was never leaving MFP. That no matter how bad it got, I would log and check in. That may be a place for you to start. Just making the commitment to stay here and then making small changes. When you see progress it will be exciting and I hope you will start to spiral upward. Best of luck to you.

Phenomenal - congrats!

I started at 266 in April 2016. Wow, that number is really hard to type. I set a bunch, and I mean a lot, of interim goals for myself, like down 10 lbs, under X BMI, A1C normal, etc. It is somehow making me feel great to check them off. I use Evernote for all this and it works really well. Just seeing that I have, now, 11…

Absolutely gorgeous - congrats!

Wow - that will keep me going for weeks. Phenomenal job!

So many great ideas here. Wondering if you could be at peace with including your favorite foods, maybe one a day, and just very small, carefully measured portions? I find I have to have something I love every day, even it's only one small piece of chocolate. As they say, the first couple of bites are the best anyway. Maybe…

I started doing this a few months ago and lost well the first couple of weeks. Then it slowed down to just the normal rate. I've kept it up, mostly because I think it helps keep total calories under control and because I really don't care about breakfast. Never have. I restrict eating to noon-8 p.m.

I've also been on and off WW for years, but am off, I believe permanently, and really perfectly content with MFP, a Fitbit and a food scale. Have lost 50 lbs. and have figured out that it's up to me to figure out the best plan for me. So - more internal than external. One thing that really bugged me about WW is that my…

Labs two days ago show I'm no longer prediabetic with an A1C of 5.5, cholesterol has dropped 70 points to 202, triglycerides from 190 to 97, blood pressure normal. It's the most incredible feeling to finally have healthy numbers. Makes me want to keep going and going on this journey.

I am a huge Chinese food lover, and control it by making my own brown rice at home and limiting whatever else (Gen. Tso, orange chicken, sesame chicken, etc.) to one cup. I serve myself and put the rest in the refrig for my husband's lunch the next day. I'm guessing at the restaurant you could eat a small amount of fried…

I like weighing everyday... But can do it without being fixated on the number. I watch the trend, and find it easier to follow than a weekly measurement which may miss a low day.[/quote] I definitely do too, but when you watch the trend for awhile you realize what your individual pattern is. Mine is hang in there at one…

Wow, that is impressive. Very happy for you. My husband had two herniated discs, and I've never seen him in such pain. It was awful, and lasted for quite awhile. He had two doctors recommend surgery, and a third that recommended PT and exercises. He took that guy's advice and has been full recovered for about 15 years.…

Cashews, raspberries, Trader Joe's three layer hummus and thin crackers, small amounts of cheese and - the best! - Trade Joe's dark chocolate peanut butter cups. So worth the calories for one or two!

You can't change him apparently, but you can change you. That's the power you DO have. How about using the word "no" a lot more? Like, no, I'm not taking you to a steakhouse tomorrow, because you're so unpleasant to be with. Anytime you want to change that let me know and we can resume going out to eat.
