  • Wow, @JulieAL1969, if only more restaurants were like that. I keep saying that I need to start some kind of sober bar - not the (to me) somewhat somber kind where people have AA meetings, but the fun kind with a party atmosphere that feels like a bar, with amazing AF drinks (tea, cool sodas, sparkling waters, juices,…
  • Today, my husband and I chopped a bunch of veggies and put all the ingredients to make spectacular salads on one shelf in our fridge. We have our own mini salad bar!
  • @JulieAL1969 - so appreciate all the videos and other resources you share here. I've gotten a lot out of every one, so thanks. Speaking of resources, I've had this book recommended to me: A Happier Hour by Rebecca Weller. I read the free sample, and it's pretty interesting. About a young woman, a health coach no less, who…
  • @erikNJ - I don't think you failed. I think you gained self awareness after already coming a long way. You learned something and that's important. Hang in - we're all here for you! Interesting theme here in lots of posts - we tip toe, or even wade, back into drinking, and I don't believe anyone has said they were very…
  • I did WW for years and lost weight ok, but the meetings weren't super helpful bc just a few people talked - and I mean all the time. On the weeks I didn't lose I felt humiliated at weigh in, even though the people weighing me in were super nice. I began to ask myself what I was paying for (and, as you know WW isn't…
  • @JulieAL1969 - Thank you for sharing all that. I am totally on the same wavelength with everything you said. Seeing young people drunk - totally sad, and if you watched that video from the UK about the incredible damage that's being done to their bodies/livers at a young age you just want to cry. I am beginning to dislike…
  • @JulieAL1969 - SO great to get your report. Was thinking about you yesterday and hoping all was well. Congrats on being in control, making conscious decisions about how much was enough for you and moving on. You are an inspiration.
  • @JenT304 - It IS fun discovering new teas! I've put my teabag collection in a big glass jar right out on the counter where I can see it. That at least makes me think before I pour a glass of wine. I use a tall insulated cup with a screw on top to make mine. I'm finding that it kinda works for me to tell myself that the tea…
  • @MissMay - thanks so much for the tip on that app!
  • @JulieAL1969 - challenging weekend ahead for you for sure. Wishing you the very best and we'll all welcome you back when it's over with and will be eager to hear how it went! Hugs!
  • @JenT304 - I'm a moderator and really glad you shared that video. The scariest thing for me was how they talked about people who aren't alcoholics -- not even close -- and who aren't "dependent" can have serious liver disease. They also measured out some beer and wine to illustrate how most people are drinking a lot more…
  • @Poston1966 - love your success! You and I are in pretty much the same place. The weekend wine is losing its allure.
  • @__TMac__ - Congrats on splitting those nachos! Portions in restaurants are pretty crazy, aren't they? We go to an ale house place once in awhile and always split the meal. I love fried shrimp, but their serving has nearly 50 fried shrimp (I seriously counted them) and a whole plate full of fries. It's enough for - what? -…
  • I've wanted to kayak for so long, but was terrified I wouldn't fit into one. My husband got me a gift certificate for a kayak lesson for two in December, and we just used it. After 80+ pounds down I had no trouble at all fitting into that thing and also had the stamina to paddle for three hours. As it turns out, I'm not…
  • Show you the power of never giving up - congrats to you!
  • Beware the gigantic wine glasses! We went to a gallery opening last night and I bought a gorgeous wine glass to benefit a kids' art charity. They filled it about 2/3 of the way full. I was wondering why I woke up in the middle of the night, thirsty and with a headache. This morning, I measured how much it would hold - a…
  • @JulieAL1969 - thank you so much for those kind words. Yes, it's really hard to see your kids suffer, as you understand bc you're a mom too. It's miserable and you wish that you could some how suffer for them or make it all better. But alas. I do think you're right that he's been thinking harder about drinking and how much…
  • @WinoGelato - oh wow, I could SO relate to this. You don't realize how much someone else is refilling your glass til the next morning when you feel like utter crap. @JulieAL1969 - Wow, you always inspire! Congrats on your race and having the "lifestyle of a nondrinker." Just excellent. Not to be a bummer, yet again, about…
  • I like that analogy! I think this (meaning controlling alcohol) just has to become like the background hum/white noise in our lives. We don't have to love it. I think it helps to remind yourself of your last awful hangover, which for me was Jan. 1. I hope never again.
  • @WinoGelato - appreciate everything you said about habits. Really an inspiration!
  • I love the idea of working out on your AF days - brilliant!
  • Was with four girlfriends last night at one of their houses. Brought my tea and a diet gingerale. They laughed at me (in a fun, not a mean way) about my "rules" for drinking (nothing Mon-Thurs), but I had a great time and didn't feel tempted - at least not too much. I once again felt SO good about driving one of my pretty…
  • @JulieAL1969 - wow, Julie - 12,000 steps is amazing. Yesterday I felt like I was walking all day and still only got up to 8,000, LOL. I love the Insight Timer app too. You are absolutely killing it- congrats!
  • I'm noticing that meeting my alcohol goals somehow encourages me to meet other goals, especially those having to do with weight loss and exercise. I figure if I can accomplish not drinking Mon-Thurs I can do X (limit chocolate! walk every day!). It's just great to feel good about yourself instead of disappointed in…
  • @looneycatblue - I know exactly what you mean. I have open bottles sitting around now. This will fix your problem for less than $10: The Original Vacu Vin Wine Saver with 1 Vacuum Stopper – White
  • @JulieAL1969 - I loved the 50 reasons video! And agree that #50 is my fave. Thanks so much for sharing.
  • Made it through the weekend with three, 6 oz. glasses of wine. Most moderate weekend so far. I'm all of a sudden hearing so many horror stories about alcohol ruining relationships and lives that I'm starting to recoil at the idea of it, frankly.
  • @bocasdelgrandpabob - You did it! Many congrats. That is truly a victory. You CAN DO this.
  • @JulieAL1969 - You continue to inspire! Your comment made me think of so many of my own shameful memories that I almost physically flinched. But you're so right, we can't dwell on them and we need to move on. I know you're also right about people not regretting quitting alcohol. I don't know if I'm just more aware of them…
  • @ceiswyn Been following your journey for quite some time and you are a total inspiration. LOVE your attitude and congrats on your incredible success!
