  • Hah! One of our servers trained at Disney! He's such a sweetheart, but whenever he talks about working at Disney (some business internship, I believe), it sounds like they practically brainwash the people to be smiling, Mickey-obsessed minions of joy. Both creepy and entertaining.
  • I'm going to second a lot of people here in saying most of those things are personal preferences. Servers aren't mind readers. Different restaurants have different policies regarding condiments, silverware, and so-forth (often for good reasons). If you want something, ask! Ask a server, a host, anyone who works there will…
  • THIS. 1000 times over.
  • Donate it to me!!! In all seriousness, are you doing strength training? Couple cardio and strength training and you'll see a bit more progress than just doing cardio. I've been doing both for years, but I did see a lot more toning in my arms, back, and chest, when I started to practice pushups (3 sets of 25 reps)…
  • No real advice. Most people will probably say 'listen to your body' and that isn't wrong. I often wake up not feeling hungry... in fact, I've gotten accustomed to working 8 hours on my feet with no food in my stomach, then biking home and still not feeling hungry. The moment I eat, of course, I realize that as weird as it…
  • Good luck to you! I know a lot of us have to put up with living in homes with family/roommates that eat high-sugar/processed/high-sodium foods. Building willpower is no small task. Especially when you're the one preparing the food for your daughter. You can get through it, though, an maybe some day you'll find a way to…
  • None. The journey to self-improvement (in health, weight, or anything else) is a highly individualistic thing. Yes, MFP is a wonderfully convenient tool, and it's the perfect tool for certain people with certain mindsets. You can't always fit a flathead screwdriver into a phillips head screw, though. Do what you know works…
  • I exercise every day for way more than two hours. I don't keep track quite so staunchly... I teach yoga 4 hours a week, I do the elliptical maybe 2-3 days a week, I attend a karate dojo twice a week, I do some kind of strength training every day, I practice dance every chance I get, I do knuckle pushups and situps before…
  • Shaelataylor and Sierra, thank you! Glad to know I'm not the only one. Also, I have no trouble staying busy. Ye gods, I'll be busy with classes and work until my hair goes silver and I've acquired thirty cats! Sandiegosumme, I appreciate you sharing that with me. Man does that ever sounds stressful. I'm sure you'll be…
  • Yeah, I've heard of quite a lot of adults eating baby food... for dieting/snacks/whatever. It's relatively cheap, and effective. You could also just puree the fruit/veggies and put them in Tupperware for a larger serving.
  • If I'm in a hurry, I mix a can of tuna with seasoning (rosemary, thyme, pepper, garlic) and then put it on top of 3-4 large celery stocks. It's very filling and healthy, but not too exciting on a daily basis.
  • Learn from your mistakes. I know we've all been there. The best thing you can do for your body right now is drink lots of WATER and to exercise. Take a long walk, go on a bike ride, do some cardio to get your endorphins running again and you'll feel better in no time.
  • Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: HRM is not a perfect tool. If you don't reach the target heart rate 'zone' you'll just need to exercise longer to burn the same number of calories. You're still exercising, and that's what counts. Side-note, if you're not pushing yourself in your workouts, progress will be slower. But…
  • There could be merit to that... we already know that chewing gum can curb cravings for some people. Gum + water generally tricks the body into thinking you've eaten something substantial. To go further with that train of thought, chewing gum triggers your salivary glands to start working to aid in digestion. This may also…
  • Just find something similar. There are a ton of options like 'fried chicken breast'. Estimate how much you ate, and convert it to whatever serving size the database shows.
  • I prefer clean-shaven. Being kissed by a bearded guy is like being attacked by sandpaper. Light scruff is fine, and goatees can look good when done well. But a smooth face is nice to touch. Personal preference, though.
  • Pre-workout snack, or to undercut those chocolate cravings.
  • Regular coffee, 1/8-1/4 cup of soymilk, 1 packet sweetener. Total: 30 calories or so.
  • I know that feeling. Trust me, the results are worth the self-discipline. However, it's okay to let loose every so-often and be completely immature. Sometimes those moments spice up your life, and sometimes they can make you grateful for how rarely they occur.
  • From a co-worker: "When is your last test? We should celebrate. My place or yours?" also: "I have five bucks on me. How far will you go for it?" ... I gave him a pencil and told him to use his imagination. From a random guy I was waiting in line with a while ago. At the time, I didn't know that Kama Sutra was yoga for sex.…
  • So true about making you vulnerable. I work out in public, but I was working out long before I had access to a gym. I knew what to do and all the ways to do it. If I hadn't, I would no doubt have been a gym idiot for doing simple, mindless things like being too shy to workout on a certain piece of equipment, or too afraid…
  • I'd say do intervals. Example: 3 minutes 5mph 1 minute 5.5 3 minutes 5 1 minute 5.6 3 minutes 5.0 1 minute 5.7 3 minute 5.0 1 minute 5.8 and so-on...
  • "Just stop giving a f***." From my big brother. Every time I wonder what others are thinking, or if something I'm doing or saying is too strange to others' eyes, I remember that phrase. It makes me smile. He was so blunt, but so right. The more you care about how you appear, the more you worry about what others think about…
  • I remember hearing from my health class (years ago) that it takes 2 weeks of inactivity to start losing significant muscle strength. After that point, every week of inactivity negates 1 month of effort to put on muscle. I know from experience that I feel weaker after just 5 days of no strength training. I went 1 month…
  • Can I add one? Adaptive Motion Trainer? It's like an elliptical, but with larger, less jarring strides. It torches calories more than anything, too. Other than that, I'd choose treadmill, but I'd really rather run outside. Then elliptical. Stair-stepper... I dunno. You don't use your arms for it, so it feels like a lot…
  • Where I live, if there's precipitation in the winter it's typically freezing rain, which turns to ice. So envious you can do all that exciting stuff! So for me, long hikes are the go-to family activity.
  • Seriously? All this hatred on 'Twilight'? There's a host of poorly-contrived protagonists. Bella has nothing on Kelsey from "A Lump in the Middle". Never, in all of the books I have read, has there been a more pathetic female protagonist. Essentially, she whines the entire time about being a middle child (two loving…
  • Last to show and first to go for me. My mother is the exact opposite. SO MUCH ENVY.
