That's true, but if you use a one cup measurement for rice, you may not get 8oz of rice. That's why the OP said it's for fluid ounces, not weight ounces.

I can't imagine trying to guess my calorie burn from Insanity without a HRM. So far, it has been really high, like it is when I run (not jog). With P90x, my calorie burn and heart rate wasn't very high at all except with the Plyo x. I seems like putting in circuit training in MFP gives you a pretty high burn, maybe that…

One of the best things I have added to my running is hill sprints. There is one pretty good hill on my route and I do about 5-6 hill sprints, running up as fast as I can and walking back down. It has really helped me. If I do it on a run day, I do it at the end. Usually, though, I do it once or twice a week on days I do…

Thanks for your reply. I definitely am on my feet for 12 hours. I work in an ICU unit and most of my patients are sedated and on a ventilator. We bathe, turn and reposition all night long.

I have a question. I just started Insanity today. First mistake was deciding to do the first workout right after the fit test. I got through it, but it was TOUGH. Anyway my question is with the schedule. I am a nurse and work Friday and Saturday 7pm-7am. I have been working out M-F. I'm not sure I'll be able to really…

40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fat is a pretty good rule of thumb and not that difficult to fit into a normal diet.

There are calculators online that use measurements of different parts of the body to give you an idea of body fat %. I think they are more accurate than those scales. I have read that even the calipers aren't that accurate. I don't think the scales that measure body fat are accurate at all. As far as water, I don't really…

At a cellular level, water follows sodium. As sodium flows into the cells and water follows, causing you to "retain water".

Regardless of whether it helps with loss on the scale, it will definitely make your waist and stomach look smaller. One of the best things women can do is to get some shoulder muscles.

I had mine at sedentary and ate back exercise calories and wasn't losing at all. I changes it to active and stopped even putting in exercise calories. I just eat at that level every day and have been losing 1-1.5 lbs a week since. I think eating back all those exercise calories, for me, was too much. I was even using a HRM…

I had tried everything and was still having some pain. I went to a running shoe store to have my gait checked. It turns out i over pronate very badly and my shoes gave me no support. I got the right shoes and some super feet and have had almost no pain since, even when running.

I recently started eating chicken from a can. I mix it, shredded 2% cheddar and salsa with my scrambled eggs for breakfast. It gives me a TON of protein to start my day for very little calories. It also keeps me full for a long time. I also use it when I make chicken salad with grapes, apples, pecans/walnuts and yogurt.…

My doctor recommended Citrucel for me. I drink a serving in the am before I eat anything and again before bed. That one simple thing has helped me SOOO much. He said that the Citrucel fiber was better than Metamucil for IBS. I use sugar free Citrucel and there are 24 cals in a serving. I also have an issue with milk and…

Sit ups are really not recommended anymore due to the strain they put on the back. Crunches on the floor also hurt the back. I think crunches on a ball are OK, but planks and things like anti-rotational cable (or band) exercises are much better.

Get your fiber from natural foods like fruit. An apple has 7 grams of fiber, not much less than that bar.

I work out from 4-5am. I have done this for years. It was hard at first, but you get used to it. If I don't do it then, it doesn't get done.

When you get a new cast iron skillet you have to season it. Maybe it's the same. You coat it in oil and then bake it in the oven to get the non-stick surface. After that, you do not wash with soap, only wipe it clean with water. There are specific directions if you google it.

Women's water percentage should be 50%. Those scales aren't completely accurate, especially about body fat, but when mine says my H2O is below about 46%, I know I need to drink a lot more. You'll hold on to a lot of water if you're not hydrated enough.

Heart rate monitors base calories burned on your stats and hour heart rate. The higher the heart rate, the more calories it says you burn.

Here is a quote from an article discussing a 360 lb female who logs 1200 calories per day and is not losing weight. I completely agree that undereating for long periods of time is unhealthy. I just don't believe that is the issue with so many people on this site. Not everyone measures and logs every bite they take and if…

I am about 25 pounds away from MY goal, which means nothing except is a weight I would like to weigh. I was eating at what I thought was a deficit and eating back some of my exercise calories. I lost nothing for 6 weeks. I then started weighing everything and only eating back about half of them once or twice a week. Most…

I've been doing it one or two days a week for a couple of months. I also feel really good on my fasting days. I think reading the whole book helped me realize that there are so many health benefits from fasting. Brad Pilon outlines all of those benefits in the book and provides research to back it. A few times I have truly…

They're really fun. My husband and I do one every year in Columbia, SC. The proceeds go to military families. You don't really have to be in any kind of great shape to do it. Last year there were people in costumes, really old ladies, etc. I suspect there were even more than a few drunk people. It's just super fun and for…

I workout at 4am every day and have for about five years. I never eat before working out. I have had no problems with this. I also fast one or two days a week and often workout at the end of my fast, when I have had no food for about 20 hours and have had no problems with this either. I have been steadily increasing the…

Pistols are one legged squats. The non-working leg is kind of held straight out in front of you. They are tough. It would be great if you could get a certified kettlebell instructor to give you one lesson to help you get your form correct. It's really easy to hurt your back doing kettlebells if your form is bad. If that's…

I fast once or twice a week from about 2pm one day until 2pm the next day. The first one or two were hard, but now I actually don't mind it at all. One interesting thing that happens is that I "empty out" (sorry if that's TMI) really well towards the end of the fast. I really like that feeling. At first, I would kind of…

For 175 calories I have one whole egg, one egg white, 2oz canned all white meat chicken, 0.3 oz of 2% shredded cheddar and a little salsa. I either scramble it all up in the skillet or make it like an omelet. It gives me about 25 grams of protein to start my day and keeps me full a long time.

If you read the entire program by Brad Pilon he STRONGLY recommends (really mandates) that you do strength training if you're going to do eat stop eat. This is what prevents you from losing muscle. I would tell you exactly what he says about it, but I'm scared it would be a copywrite violation since he actually charges for…
