  • I'm in...sounds liberating!
  • In order to make sustainable changes, you have to view food as "fuel" and not just to stop the grumbling. Fueling your body required keeping it healthy and eating foods that supply proper nutrition for muscle repair, digestion, immune system support, etc. Eating 1200 empty calories will just make you sick in the long run.…
  • Congratulations! I was never a runner when I was younger either. Hated it and hated to sweat. But I still can't believe I run many miles - on purpose!
  • Oh how I love my craft beers and try to save enough calories for one every day! Glad I'm not alone. I am from Minnesota and Summit is the big local brewer here. I'm very fond of their Oatmeal Stout, but it only comes in kegs. However, Summit Winter Ale is bottled and it is quite rich and flavorful. I don't think they…
  • Most people gain a lot of weight when they quit smoking. I've read that your metabolism will slow temporarily, but as you get through those first few weeks, it recovers to normal. I quit and didn't gain any weight, but replaced smoking with running and working out, so that helped a lot. Sadly, my "quit" didn't stick…

  • The same way you stop any other addictive or destructive behavior. First you have to want to change. Once you have that, then you reach out and build a support network like you're doing here. Great job taking the first step. There are lots of supportive people out there. I'm so sorry you had a rough weekend. Hang…
  • I rarely run with an iPod unless I'm doing training podcasts, and I never run a race with one. I love the race atmosphere. It's fun, do the race, you might be surprised.
  • I suffer from this, especially in the dry air. Cold dry air is even worse. However, the harder I push myself, the quicker my recovery time unless it's really cold out. I run, and mostly outside all winter in Minnesota of all places, but the tightness is a sure sign. I do use an inhaler if the humidty is low and it's below…
  • Best $10 I ever spent. Can't move, but it's so worth it!
  • I can't move after one day of level 1! How embarassing. I can run miles without issue, but couldn't get out of bed today.
  • I did level one two days ago. I could hardly get out of bed today. I'm a runner, and I can run for many miles and not feel like this. It's a great workout. I can't wait to keep going, but it's going to take some adjustments!
  • The more I exercise, the better the quality of my sleep and energy. Just make yourself do it, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how great you feel. Not getting your exercise in could be what's causing you to be so incredibly tired. Or, you could have a medical issue, and should consult your doctor before…
  • My downfall is beer too! I'd probably not be a good influence! :drinker:
  • Congratulations! Make sure you find a good training plan, and take it seriously. If you can't run the whole thing, that's okay too. Most important, have fun and finish! When is it?
  • From what I've gathered from reading posts, weight loss is as much mental as it is a physical thing. Consider it a great victory that you 1) recognized what was happening, and 2) you reached out! I'm really proud of you for that. Thank you so much for sharing that story, I think many people will relate to it. You can do…
  • I would highly recommend the 10K101 training plan by Running Mate. You can find it at http://10K101.com and the coach is awesome and it's very inexpensive. Good luck! 10K's are fun :-)
  • A workout is never wasted. You gotta start somewhere...just jump back on. It's all good. It is what it is, move forward :-)
  • Weight loss "aids" are not sustainable, and usually not very good for you. It's so much better to just eat clean, whole foods, and make it your lifestyle, not a short term solution. I would highly discourage this.
  • I understand what you're saying. I think it's okay to be obessive for a while, then it becomes a habit and you can be healthy without having to think about it so much!
  • I always had weight issues with birth control. It's like my hormones took over and decided to hang onto every last ounce of fat to protect those reproductive organs. I would put on 10 pounds in four days with every depo shot. Took 18 months to get it out of my system and get my weight to change no matter what I did. I'm…
  • Compression shorts will help a lot. Just make sure the inseam is longer then you think you need. I got mine too short and they roll up on me and I feel like they're cutting of the circulation! If it's colder out, a pair of running tights might be a good option too. That will keep it from happening.
  • No bragging about warm temps! Just kidding, I'm jealous. Golfing burns quite a bit of calories. Walking a 9 hole executive course I walked 2.5 miles and carrying clubs is great exercise. I say you go for it.

  • I've always just shopped the thrift stores to get enought to get me by. Usually work clothes are never an issue to find there, Cute, casual clothes are a little harder to come by. I've walked out with more than 5 outfits for under $70.
  • Temp is too low. Try 400 - 425.
  • I only know one person too. Everyone else, I couldn't even tell you their real name. I think it's neat that someone you don't know cares about your success.
  • Same thing happens to me. You'll find you start losing inches, but not pounds, then after while it catches up. No matter what, exercise isn't wasted. It should be part of a healthy lifestyle, not just to lose weight, so no matter what you're doing something fabulous for your body, your heart, and your health. Just remember…
  • Get a heart rate monitor to be sure. I would trust the website. The machines don't take your age/weight combo into effect. They calculate based on the "average" person.
  • I'm a bit of a believer in the banana. Only because it has slow releasing carbs that carry you though a longer, intense session. They're also a great recovery food, which is why they are always at the food table after a race. I guess it depends on your goals. Berries are wonderful for their antioxidant properties, and…
  • I'm pretty active, so the weekends is when I make up for everything I missed during the week. I get more exercise then I probably should then! I actually have a harder time during the week, because the minute I walk into my office I feel like being on "constant feed" but at home I have to make time to eat! Makes me realize…
  • I too have the same thing, and I'm a long distance runner. There are times when the air quality or the temps (below 20F) trigger pretty bad attacks, but I keep at it. I crossed the finish line at a race last weekend in a pretty dangerous situation, which was probably a bad idea, but getting into warm air and using my…
