  • Do you supinate or pronate? Mid, heel or front strike? Flat foot, high arch, or normal? If YOU don't know those answers go to a running store, not Footlocker and certainly not the internet forums. So yes shoes are like haircuts, specific to the person getting them. Just FYI... Asics Flex for road, track and treadmill NB…
  • I have no science to back this up, only personal experience. For me if I drink 8 ounces of purple grape juice after I workout my DOMS are slight or non-existent.
  • So many sexy men and women in the thread!!! You all look FAB!!!
  • Things that help me, especially with my hip.... Keep your back upright, no shoulder slumping Shoulder back opening up your chest Head high, neutral, not really looking up or down Your arm movements should be front to back, not side to side. Like you are punching in front and elbowing in the back All of this I got from…
  • The reason there is only 1 level 1, level 2 and level 3 is because EVEN THOUGH it is called 30DS, it is not meant to be done every single day. Even Jillian says that. Pick up a few of her programs and rotate them if you feel the need to do something every day. When I did it 3 or 4 years ago I did it every other day with…
  • Insanity is more cardio based. P90X adds weights and cardio. I would suggest building up your walking time to about an hour before you try either of these programs. Although they are marketed for "anyone can do it" sales, not everyone should. You need to be able to sustain so sort of exercise for 1 hour because both of…
  • Best advice I was given about speed.... Worry about a fast 5K when you can run a slow 10K. For beginner runners speed will come with distance. Only AFTER time and miles on miles on miles you will need to worry about training for speed a different way.
  • I finished it last year and celebrated by running a 10K in October. My goal now is to run farther. Also running faster for shorter distances. Unfortunately the weather right now is making my training schedule a little light. Your welcome to send a friend request.
  • I would walk them 1 at a time and work on the behavior. I did that with mine (rescues, lab/shar pei mix, lab/spaniel mix and Shepard/Wolfhound mixed, none of them are small.) When they start getting rambunctious I simply stop walking. They love going for walks but they HATE when I stop. There are so many ways to train…
  • I would just like to add, make sure you are eating enough. You're going to need to eat to fuel the work load you are about to start. Not likely you will be able to do Insanity on a 1200 calorie diet. I have yet to hear anyone say they were able to.
  • At the moment it's apple's.... 2 Fuji Apples, Chopped 1 Cup Red Seedless Grapes 1/2 Cup Organic Apple Juice 1/2 Fresh Lemon, Seeded and Chopped Like I said, at the moment because apples and grapes are easy to put my hands on. I got some out of the Smoothie Bible, some from juice mixes I like, others from experimenting. My…
  • There are a few things to remember when dealing with your mother. And I am saying this from someone with a similar mother to yours. We are pretty much the same age so I will assume our mothers are relatively close. A - She grew up in a time when women we to be seen and not heard. They were there as a decoration for their…
  • I agree, Jay looked awesome!!! So did Dave. Jay looked great in the episode before they left the Ranch. I think he was like 7 pounds form his goal weight. Glad to see he didn't sell out for money!
  • I am relatively new to running, since June 2013, and have run 2 races so far (10K and 5K.) I eat at 1500 + calories burned. (Yes my ticker says 0 lost. I reset it along with my goals for the year.) I find I am generally hungry on days I run. I am also learning it is more what I am eating/not eating than the # of calories.…
  • At least in regards to swimming your body has learned to work smarter, not harder.
  • And I'm now drooling uncontrollably!
  • It isn't that you are exercising too much. What is likely happening is your body is becoming more efficient at the exercise you are doing. Take one of your swimming days and try running, cycling, lifting, just something different.
  • Just want to make sure I'm following this.... It isn't ok to point out that SOME of us think Rachael is too thin BUT It is apparently ok to basically say Reuben didn't lose enough! Am I understanding this correctly?
  • You're losing weigh and you are losing inches? Stop looking at yourself. Take monthly photos and compare them side by side. Often times our brains will not see the reality of the loss. I lost 15 pounds and my friends though it was 30, I SAW maybe 5.
  • I'm just curious what people were watching. I watched it, horrified. If you look at her arms the loose skin is there and it almost looks like she is wearing a corset under her tank. I applaud the effort she put in, however, I DO NOT applaud working yourself to the point of being unhealthy. Anyone who looks at her finale…
  • If your diet is not on point then there's nothing in the world you can do exercise wise to lose weight. You can't outrun a bad diet.
  • Does it have a chest strap? If it doesn't then it's never going to be accurate with your calorie burns and nothing you can do to make it accurate. If it has a chest strap did it ask for settings like height, age, weight, max HR? If it did, make sure the settings are correct. If it didn't, see above.
  • 1 - Heart Rate Monitors are meant for STEADY STATE CARDIO, not lifting. Be very careful believing you are actually burning 600 calories in 50 minutes of heavy lifting. 2 - Heart Rate Zones are debunked 1980's junk science. 3 - If your MAX heart rate is truly 170 you will not be able to exceed that number. MAX heart rate is…
  • I learned I become WAY TOO obsessed with my heart rate than what I am actually doing. I can run a 5K never thinking about my heart rate. As soon as I put the HRM on I am worried about the readings and not how I feel so I end up run/walking the 5K. Cycling I can do with the HRM but that's only because I am more worried…
  • If you go by the info that comes with Insanity the split is 40p/40c/20f. Carbs are your friend and you won't be fighting against yourself if you eat complex carbs.
  • Exercise is not necessary to lose weight. If you want to lose weight stick to 1200, you'll lose it if you are truly eating only 1200. Exercise simply a tool. It helps your heart, muscles, bones, etc but the only thing it does for weight loss is gives you a larger deficit. Thus allowing you to eat more than the 1200…
  • Usually with. From time to time I like to unplug from everything. I keep my phone with me for those "just in case" moments, but leave all other electronics in the car or at home. No HRM, music, GPS, etc...
  • I just got it last week to make winter on the treadmill a little easier. I absolutely love the app. You use it on the treadmill by setting it to use the accelerometer for distance instead of GPS. I then just add the distance the treadmill gives me. Damn polar vortex!!! I would love to use it outside! Just not ready for…
  • For what you are going to spend on T25, you are better off buying some Under Armor, Nike, Rebook, Asics, (whatever brand floats your boat) cold running gear and go outside. The temps don't move me inside but the ice does. As long as there is no ice on the sidewalks/roads I'm running outside.
  • +1 for strength training. It will help with your running as well as helping you maintain muscle while losing weight.
