If you hadn't looked at the watch and seen you heart rate at that moment would you have stopped? Probably not. Put the watch somewhere you can't constantly look at it, at least not without stopping your run. Go by what your body tells you. When you get in tune with what your body wants, and not your brain, put the watch…

Not sure why this is a versus question. They are BOTH beneficial in different ways. I personally don't see the point in being ripped if I still have a weak heart. Conversely I don't see much reason to have a health heart if I'm not willing to sustain muscles. Do you have to do Cardio? Not at all, do what makes you happy.

For me everything is off. For example, MFP tells me I burned 456 calories in 42 minutes of 12-14 mph cycling. According to my HRM, it's only 214. If you are eating back your calories it makes a big difference. I would suggest looking into getting a heart rate monitor. They aren't 100% accurate, but they are way better than…

With any weight loss there is going to be a mixture of sources the loss will come from. you are lifting to minimize the amount of lean mass you lose. Worry about it once you are done with the losing part of your journey. If your desired weight doesn't give you the look you are after you can reassess at that time. Although…

My 85# Shar Pei/Lab mix thinks it is play time. He nips at my legs. If I do jumping jacks.... he bites my butt!!! Needless to say I have to lock him out of my room!!!

Next month will be 1 year smoke free for me. Running is just going to take time. You will build up, sadly, being an ex-smoker makes it a little bit of a longer journey than for others. I did the C25K program last year. It took me from April to August to finish it and now I try to run 3 times a week. I also cycle a lot.…

You won't know what to do until you try it. I personally COULDN'T do anything else along with Insanity. And just FYI, if you are attempting to lose weight you are going to have a more difficult time when you are taking Creatine as it is a mass builder supplement. Just sayin.

Best thing you can do is learn the difference in the signals your body sends when it wants food. You would be surprised how many times it is your brain telling you you to eat. Just for reference I tend to eat between 1500-1800 during the week. The weekend it's more like 2100-2400. So it isn't like learning the difference…

Macros > Micros. = YES Macros = Protein, Fat and Carbs = YES Micros = everything else. = YES Unless you have a medical issue (such as Diabetes), you don't really need to worry about micros. =NO, NO, NO Micro deficiencies can cause serious medical issues! It's best to have blood work done along with a yearly physical to…

I do what my body tells me to do. I do 2-A-Days and try to stick to only eating back 1 routines burn back. BUT, if I am truly hungry, I will eat more. The biggest difference for me was learning the difference between real hunger and mental hunger. Once I figured that out, my body started making the call on what i eat back.

A documentary base on 1 way of thinking is ONLY going to show you the results of any study that supports their view point. Pick up a few books on nutrition and do some reading. Just one thing you will find, not mentioned in Forks Over Knives, plant proteins are far more difficult for the human body to process. They DO NOT…

I would suggest getting a scale and weighing all of your food. From your eating description you aren't currently doing that. If your maintenance level is 2000 calories and you eat 2000 calories it doesn't matters if it's lean meats and veg or pizza and ice cream, you are not going to lose. The KEY factor to losing weight…

I'm training for the Century Tour de Cure ride in June. Here's a link to sample training they provide. Let me know if it doesn't work. http://tour.diabetes.org/tdc12/sampletrainingprogram.pdf

I suggest you stop reading the dailymail. Take everything on there with a few thousands grains of salt. It's like believing everything Dr. Oz says.

Another vote for getting outside. The sooner the better. Different people have different experiences outside. For some it is easier, for others it is harder. It is absolutely different and you run the risk of getting shin splint, PF flares, runners knee issues, etc. Treadmills offer a cushioned landing, pavement and…

Theoretically speaking.

Awesome job sticking it out!!! You'll be fine. Remember what the very first week felt like? That's how month 2 is going to feel.

Scientific proof please. And I don't mean Paleo Propaganda either. I mean real science.

I have a friend who started running because his family had a long history of heart disease. A few years ago he had a heart attack. He was able to survive a "widow maker" heart attack in part because of the strengthening running had done for his cardiovascular system. With this fact in mind....I shall continue to be…

I run on my lunch break. I generally bring something for lunch that isn't smelly, as not to offend those around me, and eat that once I'm back at my desk working. As long as your employer doesn't mind you eating on the clock that would be my suggestion.

If you enjoyed Insanity I wouldn't waste the money on T-25. Same move, different layout and a lot less time. T-25 is going to feel TOO easy. I like to call it Insanity-Lite. If you have an hour or more to workout I would suggest P90X if you want to stay with Beachbody. Tony Horton is sort of cheesy funny but it grows on…

I tend to carry 5-10 more during the winter months. In part due to the cost and availability of fresh foods during that time. Also my activity tends to be 50-60% less. I also tend to sleep more in the winter. There's too much for me to get done in the spring, summer and fall!

If you don't know these words and which ones apply to you, then you need to go to a running store. Not Footlocker, Champs, etc, but an actual running store. Do you pronate, over pronate, or supinate? Flat, neutral or high arch? Heel, mid-foot, or fore-foot strike? The wrong shoes can make running unbearably painful. Asics…

You are only doing the 15 mile ride and during your cross training months you do between 6-10. I am assuming you are doing that WITHOUT padded shorts. There is absolutely no reason to go out and buy the padded shorts just yet. They can get expensive and if you really like the group ride feel you are going to want to invest…

In the last 20 years I have never had a desk job. Always been on my feet moving boxes, carrying thinks, working cash registers, running copiers, etc. Sadly there has not been a day where my feet aren't sore by the time I lay down in bed. I started running this past June and have put a pounding on my feet. I go by how I…

Best advice I ever got..... "Worry about a fast 5K when you can complete a slow 10K." I quit smoking after 25 years last April. I started running last June. Some days are easier than others for sure. Just keep going. Once you get done and you are running more, consistently, you will notice your speed picking up. Once you…

Usually around 50-54. If it starts creeping up I know I'm getting sick.
-
:drinker: That's EXACTLY why I weigh myself on Saturdays!!! But I also know as soon as liquids touch my lips I'm gaining 4 pounds back through the day!
-
Huh... I will have to change my official day then I guess. I've been using Saturday mornings after a Friday out!
-
Is there something magical about Fridays I am unaware of? I know about Happy Hour but was unaware of anything to do with it being the optimal weigh in day.
