OK, it is really on you how you construct your own attitude. But it is unrealistic to wish away the idea that there are people who are very close to you whose whole relationship with you will have to shift when you are both not fat and in control of your life. They will have to make big changes, too, ones that they did not…

Not being a scientist, I don't read science articles. But I was told this by my Mayo nutritionist. She explained that, to avoid triggering this, their weight loss program always includes a 2-3 month maintenance period after every loss of 10% of body weight.

I was active in OA (Overeaters Anonymous) for two separate periods over several years. First time, I went from 375 to 285, and kept most of it off. Got overconfident and left. Second time, went from 325 to 265, and then, while still going to meetings, went right back up to 320. Left again. They don't recommend now any…

The main "bad thing" about diet sodas and fake sweeteners that I believe is this: eventually, I am going to have to lessen my taste and craving for sweet stuff, and diet sodas don't help me do that. So I try to avoid them, but I am not completely successful.

I am also old and injured. I did free weight for 20+ years, and vastly prefer them. They work all the little stabilizing muscles as well as the big ones you are targeting. But when in my 60s I got arthritis and chronic muscle issues, I needed the support/guidance of the machines in order to be able to do any weight work at…

I have done it successfully (for a couple of years) while maintaining, but I have never been able to lose that way. I believe that, in theory, this the best approach, but I never got good enough at it to just go by mindful eating and instinct and lose weight.

Sorry, I was trying to quote and comment, but screwed up. I am 67 and have been on VLCDs several times in my life including a 10-day hunger strike. To me, the issue is not what is happening when you are restricting calories and losing weight, it is how your body responds, by 1) putting on weight more easily in the future…

Sandwich rounds have 100 calories for both sides of the sandwich, instead of about 100 calories per slice. I think they have more taste than plain bread. I personally only eat 100% whole grain breads, which are made by all brands of sandwich rounds. Really healthy? Three breads are made not just with whole grain flour, but…

50% of my food and 90% of my calories was either deep-fried or frozen dairy, usually from one of the cheapo restaurant chains. I don't eat those things, or eat at those places. That change alone has made it pretty easy to stay under my MFP limit.

Parfait to go: zap half cup frozen blueberries in a paper cup for 20 seconds, add half cup nonfat vanilla greek yogurt, stir with plastic spoon. Takes about 45 seconds. Omelet to go: saute whatever you like to have in an omelet a week's worth at a time. Busy a.m., take out some and put in small pan. While it warms, mix…

I have had this condition for twenty years, probably as a result of chronic stress over the previous twenty years, according to my endocrinologist. If I were you, I would see an endocrinologist. Like a diabetic, I monitor my symptoms and take prescription hydrocortisone pills every day, a minimum dose every day, raised on…

Aliciab307, I don't really know, partly because I don't know how many pounds you lost to get to place you are now, which from my perspective (Wish I was only 15-25 lbs close to goal.) seems close to where you want to be. But I believe that even if you reach goal this way, you will find it hard to stay there. This is my…

Thanks and I wish you well. I have 100 lbs to lose, 50 of them I have lost several times before. Like the smoker who says, "Quitting is easy. I've done it 100 times already." My goal now is that each pound fades slowly into the distance, never to be seen again.

I am posting here at 4:40 something am. Enough said.

PS. As a new user of these boards, I have been a little disturbed at the willingness folks have to jump in with their opinion on a topic, even if they have no specific information on that particular topic, but maybe a lot of experience, information, and opinions about other, not-necessarily related topics.

My doctor, after seeing a lab test with an off-the-charts high Leptin level (the enzyme put out by fat cells that maybe increases hunger in obese people) , said to try Irvingia (the originally marketed African Mango name), because he had seen some limited reports that it lowers leptin. Next lab test, the leptin was in the…

I would like to join. Two weeks on MFP. My weight turning points in last decade have been: up to 375, down to 285, up to 335, down to 265, up to 320, now with MFP down to 313. Tables say my ultimate goal should be 190, slightly over half of what I once weighed. I need to do it very slowly in order to not rocket back up…

I use regular (not "quick") oats. I make a batch on the weekend and zap a portion every morning. Without protein it didn't solve my hunger until lunch. I now make it with soy milk instead of water. It will foam up! Use a tall pot. I add apple-pie spices: ground clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Each day I take blueberries from…
