How do I start a new topic? I am stuffed all day and seldom meet my basic1500-calorie goal, let alone eat back the exercise calories. I eat lots of whole grains daily, soy milk, beans, Boca-type stuff. All the veggies and even fruit add few calories. Anyone else have this "problem?"

1.5 cups shredded wheat, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup silk Vanilla light, 16 oz water mixed w/ 4 oz OJ. I'm full until way past lunch.

Thanks. You got it right. Look at it some different way so we don't generate more guilt and self-loathing which requires another binge to deal with. I always log my binges though. Not to feel bad, but to know how to "binge smarter" next time. And to know how many calories I would have to not eat to break even again. Just…

Please don't keep thinking about it, blaming yourself, feeling guilty. It's just one day you didn't lose weight, maybe gained a third of a pound. I've been logging straight for seven months or so. There are plenty of days like yours logged in during that time. It's hard to get off a binge. It wants to make you prolong…

Log. Log. Log. I used to eat more-or-less healthy and eat too much. I gained a lot. Now I eat more-or-less healthy, and know exactly how much I can and do eat. I have lost a lot.

¡Tanta gente! Jubilado…

Always blueberries. Apple pie spices -- nutmeg, minced cloves and lots of good-for-you cinnamon. A tiny bit of real maple syrup.

Congratulations sspahn49! I have been leaning in the same direction, especially getting rid of those totally artificial fiber/protein/energy/balance/whatever bars.

About 9 months ago, I started singing my own songs, instead of listening to them. Quietly under my breath if in a crowd, triumphantly out loud if not. Time speeds by. It feels like endorphins go way up. And memorizing the lyrics to a few hours worth of songs has been a great exercise-your-brain activity.

This. Kick him out of the laundry and have him install his own somewhere else. Like in the man cave, or where the tool bench is in the garage. I've been doing my own laundry for almost 50 years, and I've occasionally screwed my own clothes up, but never hers.

Got to this thread late. It is one of those that drives me crazy on MFP. As Tigersword and one other long ago (ecdc?) have correctly stated, there is easily available information about Sheldon and his completely discredited theory of three body types. For example:…

We used to farm tilapia, the fish formerly known as carp, in an artificial pond on our farm. Tilapia was bred to be farmed and all of it is. Think of a factory poultry operation where the animals are densely packed in and fed grain. In the hen house, the poultry walks around on the huge quantity of chicken waste, In a…

Thanks. I am glad you took an interest and stepped up to help. I am kind of intimidated by the regular fitness section because of all the super-built (from their pics) young men who know it all and have all the answers, like I used to when I was their age. But they don't tend to have answers that I can believe in much, for…

i have done the "no whites" plan of eating twice, for a long time each. Food Addicts Anonymous basically advocates this. No sugar, white flour, white potatoes, or white rice. Lost 90 lbs the first time, never gained more than 40 back. Lost 70 lbs the second time, gained almost all of it back. I lost weight, was totally…

Yes. But you might have noticed ads and recommendations for commercial MFP partners. It makes its money the same way other ad-supported free sites do. "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Thank you. I really appreciate your reply. I looked at Livestrong. But I think what I am trying to achieve is different. Lengthy water aerobics exercises and supplements (especially Rheumi-Art) keep the pain more-or-less under control, if I keep the status quo. I have succeeded in improving my range of motion slightly…

There is a huge group of 100+ pounders, You could search for it in the groups section. I copy-and-pasted the following name and info from the list of groups: 100+ lbs to lose. Members: 7274. Created 2011-11-12

I was diagnosed hypo 30 years ago, a couple of years after I became overweight for the first time in my life. Like you and others here, my endocrinologist has had to constantly monitor the TSH, but also T3 and T4, changing meds, adjusting dosages. Now I am on Cytomel and Synthroid, brands not generics, because the…

My Muslim friends find it easier to lose weight during Ramadan, but it doesn't happen automatically. If your family eats every sundown like it's Eid ul-Fitr (the end-of-Ramadan celebration), then you won't. By the way, Ramadan is an "intermittent fast," one that hundreds of millions of people have been doing for a very…

My Mayo nutritionist says maintaining (in other words, plateauing) for 2 or even 3 months every time you lose 10% of your body weight is best in the long run for sustained weight loss. That aside, I stop losing weight every time I get too busy to exercise, even if I eat my BMR. I agree about the Intermittent fasting, I…

Hey, congratulations! Your post inspired me to check my BMI (I have avoided doing that for a long time) and it was 39.3! We share the same obesity day (or at least week).

My knees are also misaligned. So I have always had to do lower-body strength training on a nautilus-type machine, rather than with squats, etc. By now, I have pretty strong muscles supporting the screwed-up knees. Both from strength training, and mostly, from walking around for so many years carrying a 100-175 pound fat…

For me, eating enough of food I shouldn't can send me over my calorie goal every once in a while. I don't consider it a cheat day though. I consider it "yesterday," and work on getting back on track today.

MFP recs: 2210, 304, 74, and 83. Averaging a couple of other sites' calculators, MFP seems to have given me about my BMR. Eat back exercise, but usually not all of it. Lost 20 pounds in first 13 weeks.

I make a big pan of "sauted' (with sprayed olive oil) vegetables and mushrooms -- hardly any calories -- and add whatever amount of protein that I have calorie-allowance room for.

IF (Intermittent Fasting) is all about fasting for 14-18 hours and eating your full calorie amount in 6-10 hours. In other words, skipping breakfast. I eat from noon until 8 pm.

This has been a fantastically informative thread. Thank you Christinal1983, and all who added to her work.

In addition to the abuse issues, you might think about seasonality. Almost every year, and there have been many at my age, I have tended to gain, sometimes despite big efforts, from June until December. And from December until June I lose without even trying. Trying to lose in that season, it melts off. But it comes back…

There have been a few recent looooong threads on fasting that turned out mostly to be about IF. I do it, 12 to 8, mostly because I am not hungry before or after that. I have lost 20 lbs in 11 weeks, almost all from logging, because I was doing IF before that, just eating more and losing less. When my son was about your…
