  • Have you considered a spritzer? I drank those while I was trying to get pregnant....wine mixed w/seltzer water. Made me feel like I was part of the party with a low alcohol content. (Admittedly, though, once I was pregnant I enjoyed either a glass of wine or a pint of beer most weeks.)
  • Well, our daughter is now closing in on six months so I've been packing up a lot of the "newborn" stuff.... Here are some of the least & most used items. Least Used (or things we had too much of!) --gloves/socks/hats. 1 or 2 of each would've sufficed. --Bottles. 5 or 6 would've been plenty. We accepted hand-me-downs so…
  • My girl is nearly 6 months old. Initially, I lost all the weight in about 3 weeks. Sadly, though, about 10 lbs crept back on (which is a lot, nearly half of what I gained). I walk 4-8 miles most days, cycle a couple times a week, and use my 17+ lb peanut as a kettle bell...yet I'm not losing any of what I gained back. The…
  • This is what we use, though I've seen other ones on occasion at the store. http://www.gdiapers.com/shop/accessories-2/cloth-liners Honestly, I didn't research much--I saw this brand and knew it was the system we wanted (they have biodegradable inserts too!)--so I'm not sure on the difference between all the different…
  • We have a hamper with a snap-on lid and a wet bag liner in her bedroom. Everything (except the solids and the paper liner, which go in a garbage can with a snap-on lid) go in there. Then the wet bag and all the contents get washed every 3ish days. In her current size--which she'll probably be in the longest--we have 10…
  • We're cloth diapering here and so far so good! We use gDiapers and they're fabulous. We opt to use this paper liner thingy on top so it captures all the solid waste and it just gets flicked into the garbage or toilet. It cost about $400 to stock her diaper supplies from birth to about 36 lbs., we've yet to have a blowout,…
  • I am going to have a repeat C-section, because it's the only way my OB will deliver after the 1st one. And honestly, I had a really good experience with mine. I'm 5 months post-partum and can't see the scar. I was home 2 days after delivery, shoveling snow 4 days after delivery, and back to myself 100% within about 10…
  • My ride is named Molly. Not sure how that happened, but it did. And I'm psyched to take Molly riding down a car-free Lake Shore Drive in Chicago this weekend!!
  • While pregnant, I enjoyed "The Pregnancy Journal" which was a day-by-day account of what's happening in terms of development as well as to mom. Once I had her, I pretty much pitched all the books and followed my instincts. I rely on friends with kids, my mom, and common sense. I found most of the books to be more…
  • I'm Lisa and baby arrived in December, so she'll be six months at the beginning of June. Eleanor is her name, she weighed in at 9lb 3oz and 21.25 inches tall. At her last check-up she was about 26" tall and weighed over 16.5 lbs. So far she's been a really easy going kid. She slept thru the night (or with just one wake up)…
  • I'm Lisa and baby arrived in December, so she'll be six months at the beginning of June. Eleanor is her name, she weighed in at 9lb 3oz and 21.25 inches tall. Congrats to all the expecting moms! Thanks for the invite, this sounds like a great group to share experiences on the mommy front!
  • I joined a more casual club thru meetup.com. They have a lot of no-drop rides and are very good about posting the miles, MPH, terrain, etc... so people know what they're getting into. Still, I prefer to ride alone (or with my husband and our daughter) but it's nice to learn about new routes/trails/etc... from the club.
  • I had a (scheduled) C-section 2 days early. Baby never dropped and I was showing no signs of progress so we went with it. By doing it on a Wednesday I was home Friday and was able to attend a family party over the weekend, so I was pleased with the way it worked out. Baby measured about 2 weeks ahead from the very…
  • We LOVE the JJCole Bundle Me products. We have 4 (3 are hand-me-downs). 2 "winter style" and 2 "lite". If it's above freezing, we're outside. We have them in her car seat and in her stroller--we just switch them out based on the weather. Also a rain cover for her stroller--again, we're always outside, rain or shine! Good…
  • I had to have a (scheduled) C-section and was back at it pretty quickly (as in, C-section Wed...home Fri....shoveling a foot of snow Sunday). For me, it's more of a time/energy thing than physical ability. I was walking for fitness almost immediately, doing kettlebells & using my spin bike within a couple weeks. When she…
  • That is awesome! We don't do baby showers in my circle but a girls night of doing something for the baby is right up our alley! Have a blast!
  • Between nursing and inadvertently skipping meals, I lost ALL the weight (about 25 lbs) within about 3 weeks. Problem is...as life got normal it crept back up. Yes, I was eating right. But, no, I wasn't exercising as much. I blame a long, cold winter and the fact that I'm a SAHM. If I were working I have no doubt I would've…
  • I have a Baby Jogger City Select (it has two seats, front/back) and it's amazing. It's not technically a jogging stroller (it has 4 wheels) but it's great at my pace (9 minute mile at best). I use it on crushed limestone, woodchip & dirt trails as well as smooth surfaces. I have suggested it to all my friends in need of a…
  • Admittedly, I do NOT have experience doing multi-day distance rides while pregnant. But I will ask, have you done any similar rides before? A few years back I did a 5 day ride, about 75 miles per day. It was a great experience but it did get grueling at times. We had an unexpected heat wave combined with high humidity. It…
  • Have you tried Aveeno products? They're normally a successful go-to for all issues itchy in my family. The oatmeal baths, especially. Might be worth a try until you can consult with a dermatologist.
  • We didn't know the gender so I went neutral. The artwork is Richard Scary nursery rhymes (I bought an old picture book at a resale shop) matted on scrapbook paper and framed. Everybody compliments those! I did 2 sets of 2 over the crib--they're large. The walls are a light sage green color, the bedding is grey with…
  • I feel for you. I live just outside of Chicago so a huge metro area, but we have a small network for our (excellent) insurance. My OB had a tendency to use scare tactics too. I respectfully questioned him, made my thoughts very clear, and by delivery day I can honestly say we both liked & respected each other. Hopefully…
  • I recall being taught that there is some natural sugar crash during mid-afternoon, maybe that explains the sudden tiredness. While pregnant I often wore compression socks (I teach and was on my feet for 8 hrs a day). My legs felt awesome. Might be worth a try. And I agree a quick walk can work wonders. Since I stood--not…
  • I gained about 27 total (and really, it was 25 up until the last day or two of my pregnancy) so yes, it can be done. Though I think a lot of it was by no massive effort of my own. I stayed relatively active throughout my pregnancy: walking often, running when I felt like it, and teaching 8 hrs a day so therefore…
  • Sadly, I think it's just prep for when baby arrives! I recall sleeping very well the last few weeks before I had my girl (last December) but during most of the 3rd trimester I went to work every day in a daze. I teach and was on my feet all day. It was rough. The foam roller was my best friend. Maybe it'd help your aches…
  • I made it to about 32 weeks before I decided it wasn't worth it anymore. At that point, I switched to fast walks. So you've got me beaten already! Really, though, a fast walk (I normally walk 4 MPH) and a 4.5 MPH run isn't much different so just toggle back and forth between the two as needed. Congrats & enjoy the home…
  • Yes, the vast majority of births are with a doctor here in the US. I know maybe 3 people that have had non-physician deliveries. We have an excessive amount of medical care here. It's pathetic.
  • What to do before getting pregnant? Honestly, as long as you're eating somewhat healthy, not using any drugs or abusing alcohol, and don't have a type-A personality, I say just go for it and enjoy the journey. It took my husband and I a looong time to get pregnant (we had fertility issues and ultimately did IVF). We didn't…
  • We went with Eleanor. Nora for short. I'm a teacher and wanted a name I don't often hear in the classroom. I like Caroline too, it's a pretty, classic name.
  • My cousin was on bed rest from about 10 weeks until delivery (incompetent cervix). I know she got really crafty. Learned to knit & crochet. Also picked up a bunch of canvases and painted stuff for the nursery. I won't lie, It was bad. But there was no hope of it ending, and she was told ALL pregnancies would be like that.…
