try just saying I am trying to adjust my eating habits. if they push say once I figure out what foods I can eat and feel healthy then I'll be able to go out but for now I have to monitor carefully. this makes sense to me because I can easily see myself cutting out 100 calories a week for 6 weeks to get to the amount I need instead of one big jump, but I can only really meet goals in tiny baby steps until they become automatic.
