I totally agree! Not sure I'd go back to a doc who diagnosed me with fatty liver and didn't mention diet or nutrition. This medicate! medicate! medicate! attitude that so many of our physicians have is terribly uninspired. In fact, I think it is a cop out. Far better (for us, the patient) if our docs were to try to change…

Yes. Yes. Yes!

You are soooo right! You CAN turn it around. I have. (Also, I don't trust all these meds we are being given by "doctors." I went in because I was having acid reflux. Without trying to find the cause the doc simply put me on Omeprazole, which I understand 20% of the country is on. I started losing my hair. I attributed that…

NASH and NAFLD are real serious issues! When I was 20# heavier, I was feeling some discomfort in my upper right quad. It may have been my imagination, but I felt I was on the path to these diseases. That was more motivating than any desire to look good. That discomfort is almost gone, now. Here's a white paper that offers…

When craving chocolate, I eat a HIGH cocao semi-sweet (almost no sugar) chocolate. Because it is bittersweet, I don't crave more than a square, but my craving for chocolate is gone!

For example, I'm losing a lot slower now than I was at the beginning.

10 pound before April will be hard. We don't always lose in a straight pound:week ratio. Some weeks (even while doing everything right) you may only lose a pound. In fact that could happen your last 2-3 weeks -- even though you are doing everything possible. Don't get discouraged. Good goals are not always achievable right…

I'm sorry for your loss. I believe both PPA and effedra are no longer for sale in this country, because of tragedies like yours.

Phentermine curbs cravings, I'll give you that. Eliminating certain foods also curbs cravings. I made a lifestyle change (2 years ago) of minimizing my flour and sugar intake. I am hardly ever craving carbs anymore. Sometimes I crave salt, even though I'm drinking 50-70 oz of water per day. But most of all I like the…

Hello All! I had a successful year last year. Held my ground in Jan. Have ordered the "21 Day Tummy" from Amazon. Looking forward to another good year. Have 10 pounds to go, but that's not the goal -- a permanent lifestyle change is THE goal!

Yup! Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD, "emerging epidemic") See http://www.massgeneral.org/digestive/assets/pdf/liver-center-enewsletter-issue2.pdf Two years ago I had been having some of the symptoms. Last January I began MFP. Lost 17 pounds last year and reached my goal. Symptoms are all but gone. I care more…

Sure hope you are feeling better soon.

I agree. Chicken broth to provide some energy. But if I'm sickSICK, and don't feel like eating -- I don't. I had a bad cold/flu earlier September, and did not eat what I regularly would eat, but ate enough to be comfortable. And I stayed hydrated. I lost one pound (ok, maybe water weight) after 3 days. But that 'water…

VLCDs (Very Low Calorie Diets) are not unprecedented. The key to cutting your appetite so that you can adhere to a VLCD, is to eat some protein at each meal. One of my favorite meals is a microwaved corn tortilla (microwaving for 1 min 35 sec makes it crunchy without frying it in fat), a slice of American cheese on top of…

I understand grief weight. I lost a friend 4 + years ago. First I lost 20 pounts -- suddenly -- sallow. Then gradually over the months that followed, I put on and put on and put on. 4 and 1/2 almost years ago, I am forty pounds too heavy. I am beginning the healing road back. Thanks for sharing your journeys. My deepest…

Current weight is 164. That means 149 by Halloween. Yea!

Count me in! I've lost over 12+ but 15 between now and Halloween sounds like a good rate. Yep. I'm in.

Has anyone found that as they've lowered their carbs, their mood has lowered too? I have to remind myself that my body along with my serotonin levels are all adjusting. The older I get the more and more I believe that mental and physical health have more and more to do with staying hydrated and eating balanced meals. Maybe…

Add me! I'm one too: I'm a low carb, but not a no carb. Thanks.

Not a myth. The ketosis in your kidneys is exhaled. Your breath is BAD. Fact. Another fact: Low carb diets rob your bones of calcium. This is a bad thing to do long term.

Miss60, I understood. I bought South Beach Diet book to learn more about it - before I ever tried the diet. I read it, underlined what I liked, tried what I wanted. Kept it because it had value to me.

With all the muscle you are building, if you are losing 2 pounds a week, you are probably feeling pretty successful!! Good for you!! When do you hope to reach your GW?

Thanks for sharing your inspiring experience. You look great!

Whey powder is best. I use it, but gotta watch the sugar. Make sure you don't add a ton of calories. For protein w/o a lot of extra sugar/calories, my favorite is eating a hard boiled egg, tuna, canned chicken, powdered milk.
