Thanks for the replies. I'll just go with mentioning what I cut out, not necessarily the reason why.

Ugh, this happened to my wife. They kept treating her for GERD for years until she got angry at the ER doc (there because of a really bad attack) who decided to do an ultrasound and found the bad gallbladder. She got the scope surgery the next day to have it removed and has been fine since.

Central Ohio alert. :) I found Kerrygold butter at the Giant Eagle on the corner of Hayden Run and Sawmill. It was in a small cooler section in one of the aisles (not near the other butter). There is also a Costco up near Polaris but that seems to be too far to go to just get a small set of items.

I started Primal on Jan 1 this year and am finding it quite easy to follow. One thing is that I am much more aware of exactly what I am eating. It is so much easier when you are eating basic foods and making them yourself. I was never much of a cook but I've found myself much more interested in making things and trying new…

Ask about the gluten free options. That should eliminate the wheat right off the bat. Some places have gluten free info on their websites so if you know where you are going you can plan ahead. My daughter is a server and where she works she can specify that a certain seat is gluten free and when she enters the order the…

Ah, yes, what kid didn't add chips or Doritos or Fritos to their PBJ. I wonder if some chopped nuts in the middle of the rollup would add some crunch.

Sounds like the bologna roll ups I used to have as a kid. Slice of bologna, slice of cheese, mayo, roll it all up inside the bologna. May need to try something like this with better meat this time around.

I am a very analytical person so reading 'Wheat Belly', 'Good Calories, Bad Calories' and 'Primal Blueprint' made sense to me. Or at least enough to get me to TRY them. One month in, 21 pounds down, eating truly delicious food, not being hungry and having higher energy levels and I'm a believer. I won't push people but if…

Ok, thanks for the replies. I'll try to up my food intake. I'm pretty sure I need to add more fat to what I am eating. I've recently rediscovered real butter and forgot how delicious it is. As far as intermittent fasting goes I've found it easy to not eat from breakfast until dinner, which is about 9.5 - 10 hours most…

Keeping my carbs low helps me the most. My main problem seems to be with sugar so I try to stay away from fruit. Maybe I'll eat more the closer I get to my goal body fat %-age. I don't really worry about carbs from veggies, hard to overdose on those. The thing I like about eating like this is that it allows me to…

I'm not a big salad eater but when I eat one from the salad bar at work I put olive oil on it. Sometimes I use balsamic though. I'm just happy they have those as choices and not just the standard dressings.

I have two daughters (20 and 16 years old) and I had a realization that I would be walking them down the aisle one day (hopefully a few years away still). I then realized that everyone would be looking at them but that I was going to be right there also and everybody would see me. I then looked at myself and realized I…

Same here (long live the IT minions!). I've started doing some exercise (don't always track it though since I don't care about earning exercise calories) just because my energy levels are higher and my body seems to want to do something. Tried some HIIT on my stationary bike and some strength training with dumbbells.…

No problem. I've come to realize that MFP has a massive female to male ratio in it's members. Or at least the ones that seem to post.

Thanks for the link. Some cool articles there.

This is what has happened to me also. I've been able to easily walk past the 'treat table' at work without problem. Before I would always grab something.

I had the 'low-carb' flu for about a week when I first started eating primal. Didn't feel like doing anything except laying on the couch. I heard it described as either I wasn't eating enough fat or there were a lot of sugar hungry bacteria in my gut dying off from the lack of carbs/sugar and releasing toxins when they…

My weakness is sugar so I don't eat much fruit. I was never much of a fruit eater before so it's not hard for me to skip it. Too much sugar and I start getting the munchies. I find when I cut the sugar that it is pretty easy for me to stay under my carb totals.

Go to the My Home tab. Select the Goals. Hit the Change Goals button. Select customize. You should then have a list of items you can select. Adjust the Fat, Carbs and Protein percentages you want. It will automatically adjust so that they always equal 100%.

You can add me if you want, I started primal on Jan 2 and joined MFP 7-10 days ago or so and I've been tracking my food.

I've got some Lindt 90% (Target had it) now, quite tasty. Or maybe it just seems that way since I've dumped the refined carbs and sugar. But I've found I don't "need" chocolate like I used. So I don't have it so often.
-
I wonder if the doctor was mainly talking about refined carbs and sugar (bread, pasta, grain, cake, cookies, etc). That is what a lot of people think of when the word carbs are mentioned.

The biggest thing for me to get over was that fat is not the enemy. It's been drummed into our heads for so long that it is soooo bad for people that it is hard to stop thinking of it that way. We were eating boneless pork chops tonight at dinner (from a great local butcher) with some fat along the edge and my wife asked…

I started eating primal ( a less strict version of paleo - I think) Jan 2 and I've lost 17 pounds since then with no exercise. I think the biggest thing for me was ditching the grains and sugar. Once I got off the blood sugar roller coaster it became very easy to not eat to the calorie target on MFP. The only carbs I'm…

Thanks for the links. Very useful site. I'd prefer to eat foods with the nutrients I need rather than taking a pill.

I think Dr. Phil could help some people who seem to be struggling with the recommended diet with his catch-phrase (about the limit of what I know about Dr. Phil): "How's that working out for you?" What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That's why I tried…

Thanks for the replies. I wonder if being on the "normal" SAD type diets it is dangerous to lose more than 2 pounds per week because people are cutting so much from what they are eating. It can be hard to stop thinking the CW way since it's been drilled into our heads for 30 years. I have to say since starting this that I…

I had to go read that mess also. Being new to the whole Primal lifestyle I didn't realize how the non-Primal/Paleo eaters disliked it so. Some people seem to think that it is a very strict system and that you need lists of foods to go shopping. Grocery shopping is so much easier now. I'm trying to think if we even bought…

I saw something somewhere here that mentioned changing the terms to be timeframes(ie 6 am - 11 am, 11am - 4 pm, etc). Just a way to get away from the conventional thinking about when to eat. You just record the food you eat during that timeframe, if you don't eat for a timeframe it may not be as big as deal as seeing that…

This is my main thing. And having the app on my phone makes it really easy. Even if I'm out with people it is not unusual to input my food on my phone because people are always grabbing their phone to check things out anyway. Before the MFP and the phone app I was stuck trying to remember what I ate when I got home and…
