I use Source Naturals Brown Rice Protein Powder. Gluten free. Both this and the brewer's yeast I mentioned are in the MFP database if you want to check them out.
-
I order mine online but a local health food store may have it, too. Brewer's yeast is different from the kind of yeast used for baking (and different than nutritional yeast)-- I'm not sure about the BM regulation part but the high fiber content certainly doesn't hurt! :-) I will say this: add it to a strong flavored…

Thank you! I will play around with the equations on that site... and try to find a different way to calculate my target heart rate.

The Brewer's Yeast I use actually has more protein in it than my protein powder, and it's gluten free. Lewis Labs Brewer's Yeast: per 2 tablespoons (30g) 16g protein, 6g fiber, and a whole bunch of trace minerals.

Thanks everyone who has posted-- I am really glad to know that the calories burned by muscle vs fat is very minimal-- that explains a lot!!
-
I guess the age thing doesn't make much sense to me, either (sorry if I'm being dense-- I just really want to understand!). The "target heart rate" to burn fat appears to be completely age-related rather than fitness related...

Oh goodness, such dilemmas! Not having your son at your house makes it very difficult to help him make better food choices. Maybe a trip to a nutritionist who specializes in children? I'm just thinking they may have a way to really hit home with the possible health risks of being overweight. I don't have much in the way of…

Great job, ladies! As the OP, I feel like I've let you all down (and especially myself) for completely caving into my sugar cravings. :grumble: BUT, today is Sunday and so far, so good. So, I will start with today and see how it goes. I resolve to be better! And for anyone who wants to join in the challenge,…

Thank you!! I actually just posted that to my status because I couldn't figure out what it meant!!

Oh my gosh, ladies!! I did terribly!! I wonder if I'm pms-ing because I ate absolutely everything in sight today... and I'm ordering domino's for dinner. I'm sure I'm going to feel yucky but it's like a monster inside me that is demanding junk! I have 3 papers to write this weekend and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a…

Awesome! Feels good to have company with this. Let's check back in with this thread every day and tell each other how it's going-- we can do this!!!

Welcome to MFP!! What an amazing and wonderful response to some scary news. Everyone here is really nice and supportive. Please feel free to add me as a friend-- you can never have too many people encouraging you!

I'm bumping-- hoping a few more people are on tonight than were on at 6am. :)

Looking at your food diary, you're eating too few calories. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but it happened to me when I first started out also. Raise your calorie intake to about 1400 and try to actually be somewhere close to that each day (over or under by 150 cal). Also, I don't see your exercise logged. If you're…

Can't help you on the greenberry since I've never had it, but I add 2T peanut butter, a cup of almond milk, and a cup of frozen strawberries to the chocolate shake. Fills me up for several hours. I don't really use it as a meal replacer on a daily basis, I save it for when I want something sweet or when I don't have time…

I've never encountered that but I can see how multiple incidents could get obnoxious. That's what the delete button is for and I agree with the others--no explanation needed. :drinker:

LOL. I like the weird mystic mentality!! =D But I will check her out--I kinda like the idea of having a soothing female lead.
-
Great, thank you! I will look for some of his stuff.

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far! I guess I should have explained that I'd really like a gentle, more flowing kind of DVD rather than cardio first thing in the morning (my body takes a while to get going!). I don't know if that changes the suggestions...

I guess I don't understand what you mean-- are you talking about something like saying "great job" on a day that's been terrible for you but you came in under your calorie goal? Personally, I take things in the spirit in which they are intended. So someone didn't look at my diary before commenting--oh well! At least they…

Given that you are tall and have a lot of surface area to cover, I'd think you're looking at more like $1500 for a decent job and it will have to be over at least two, if not three, sessions. As far as ideas, you've been offered a lot of great advice on how to go about imagery and if you follow it, rather than trying to…

Yay, thank you everyone!! I didn't realize that I don't have to actually wear the watch--I thought it was part of the measurement tool. I will move forward with the purchase!

I'm the same way! I've been on a binge for the last week (cookies are my ultimate weakness) and once I go over for the day I just completely give up. And then I feel terrible about myself. My ticker says I've lost 8 lbs so far-- that was true a couple weeks ago but I've been too ashamed to log in my updated weight because…

^^No. Very bad form. They are taking time, energy, and creativity to put together something you like with the intention that you are a collaborative team. Why would you take the image and leave? To get it tattooed somewhere else? If there are pieces of the image that you like but parts that you don't like, they are happy…

Okra. EW. Beets-- wish I like them because they're so good for you but as many times as I try, I just can't get with it.

I feel your pain regarding having tempting foods in the house-- my willpower breaks! Personally, I would sit down with her at a time where you are both calm and not in a hurry (NOT when you're going shopping) and let her know how difficult it is for you to have that kind of food in the house. If she wants to buy those…

Same as the above ladies-- I wear two, and one of them is an Under Armour, front-zip that was about $50 but it's AWESOME!
-
Thank you all for taking the time to write such detailed answers-- I'm taking all this information and running with it! I'll up my calories just a bit and start weight training in earnest. My scale measures body fat so I will quit looking at how much I weigh and only pay attention to my BMI. Tonya-- I've never been on…
-
Thanks for all the great responses! I know that I need to do weight training in order to build muscle (I normally do but have been slacking lately!), I was just second-guessing myself from all the posts saying that calorie deficit and muscle building don't mix. Regarding my actual goals-- I don't really care what the scale…

Your post sounds exactly like what happened when I first started using MFP. I dropped 3 lbs the first week, then gained it all back. I'm also pretty close to my target weight and found that I was trying to lose too fast and killed my metabolism by eating too little. Your food diary looks like you may be doing the same. I…
