  • Wow I wrote this 2 years ago. Came back to it and inspired all over again. I gained back 40 of the 50 lbs I lost due to an enormously stressful period. Down 10 lbs so far trying to get another 30 down. You all have inspired me to push harder.
  • 156 here :( been above 120 for about 2 months now. Need to start getting strict again with my diet. I used to average 90-120 now I'm usually 130-175. Ugh.
  • It's not just you. I've been in the 5% club since March, but my cholesterol was at 138, my doctor wants it below 130. He said exercise is what will bring it down the most, so I need to workout more.
  • Yes, sweet potatoes (which are supposed to be okay for us) and mango anything spike me through the roof. Ironically, bananas and pasta I'm okay with. Go figure.
  • I generally stick to staying under 150 on days I don't work out, under 200 on days I do. However for the most part I listen to my body and adjust accordingly. I can't tolerate anything with high carbs or high sugars anymore. so the most I will have with a meal is 50g and even that is pushing it. However bear in mind when I…
  • So far 6 lbs down of the last 11 I had when I posted before. So now I have the last 5 lbs left to go. Hoping it's gone before the end of the summer. (Not trying to kill myself. been steadily losing weight since Thanksgiving and intend to keep it off this time!)
  • I was pre diabetic for a while as well, possibly a year. I also ignored the warnings. If anything, I ate worse because I was stuck working from home for 6 months. My wake up call was my mother ending up in the hospital with serious diabetes complications in December. Her kidneys were failing, her lungs were full of fluid,…
  • My anniversary is in 3 weeks, so I'm late to the game but up for a 2 week challenge. I have the last 7 lbs to go, and hoping to lose at least half of it by then, so.... I'm hoping to do: Twice the cardio I was doing. I gain muscle and bulk up pretty fast so I can keep the same amount of time I do strength training (about…
  • I quit regular soda years ago and still have diet once in a while, but for the most part I stick to water or flavored water. My mother who is also diabetic still drinks regular soda and her blood sugar is always high, usually above 350. I once tested her with my meter and it was so high the meter couldn't even read it…
  • Lost a mid size microwave. Trying to get close to a bale of hay.
  • I had the same issues as you in the beginning, constantly being way too low on protein intake. Once I started upping my weight training though, I realized I had to increase the intake. Now I'm over every day pretty much. On an average week my protein will come from: Salmon Turkey Tuna Chicken Edamame Protein Bars Protein…
  • You have to keep in mind that your A1c is a test that reflects your blood sugar average over the last 3 months, including spikes you had from times you cheated. When was the last time your A1c was checked? If you didn't start eating better until say 1 month ago, then the 2 bad months prior are reflected into your average.…
  • Was reading somewhere that people who choose to lose for vanity are less likely to keep the weight off long term than those who choose to lose for health. For those who are under 35 and think they can quit their routine and still have the same body and blood work at 35, you are in for a rude awakening!
  • I'm about to be 39 with no kids. (Was married once though). My BF is 37, never married and no kids. So you are not alone, and there's nothing wrong with it. I find people have a hard time accepting the fact that we don't want kids however and keep pushing us to which is annoying. No one ever questions parents why they…
  • As a diabetic, I steer clear of soda for the most part. I was given a Sodastream last year and use the diet flavors for that to make my own soda from tap water. However, my BF tends to drink it more than me since I stick to plain water and occasionally Crystal Light or other drink mixes that are sugar free. I agree with…
  • That's an awesome job! Yes it can be done and without medication. I went from 7.2% at diagnosis in December 2012 to 5.6% in March 2013. So it only took me 3 months with diet and exercise to get below 6%. I'm hoping to get similar numbers when I go back in July. Grats on keeping it down as well!! Not everyone is so lucky!!
  • We should note most of us talking about a talking FitBit are referring to the One tracker. The Flex won't talk to you. Not sure if the Zip talks. Mine said Cheers earlier. Now it just said "Go". For those that want it to talk, you have to lie it on a flat surface face up and flat. If it's angled or tilted, it might not…
  • Like someone else said, health first. My goal was getting better blood work results and to not end up on medications like my parents, because I was heading in that direction and fast. However once the weight started coming off, and I got closer to my body of 10 years ago when I looked like a personal trainer, vanity kicked…
  • Thanks for the posts!! I thought of a few more: You realize your button down shirts no longer play "peekabo" with you in giving people a show of your bra. You find yourself standing straight more often to look even leaner. You pick up a weight at the gym that represents the amount you lost and wonder how the hell you were…
  • Great replies all! I remembered a few more! When you're no longer winded by going up a flight of stairs. When you realize you have more energy than people younger than you. You're no longer tired all of the time because of the crap you used to eat. You can't find your back fat anymore. You realize you now have 1 little…
  • 50 lbs on the squat rack. However I just finally came back to using it after not being able to even do a squat for years due to arthritis in my knees. Hoping to get to 150 lbs.
  • Hi Celeste, and welcome! I was diagnosed 6 months ago and have managed to get my numbers under control without medication. So it is possible to control this disease, however it never truly goes away. The main things are what you eat and getting in some exercise. Like others said, not all foods are created equal. Also what…
  • I've had most of the sayings, I think but I have yet to see "No Donut", "Stepgeek" "Bon Jour" or "Vamos". It must be holding out on me. Today it's telling me "I'm Ready", "Rock On" and "What's Up" Normally I get "Smooches", "Hold Me", "Goooooal" or "Hi There" I think I'm going to change the name on mine to Fatass too or…
  • I'm 5'3" and 151 lbs right now with 11 lbs to goal, so I'm right there with you! (I'm trying to get to 140 because right now I have a lot of muscle and would look anorexic any thinner than that). Count me in! I might not go running, but I might start P90X or jumping rope every day for extended periods, maybe Zumba since it…
  • I just log the Nike + training as Calisthenics. When you look at the workouts they're giving you (Planks, lunges, squats, jumping jacks, running in place, etc.) it's the same as any calisthenics program you would be given. I found that plugging in Calisthenics for the calories burned to be more accurate and closer to what…
  • Ugh I won't have insurance again until July. :grumble: My sugars keep around 85-120. They only tend to go higher after a meal, and that is when I am getting the neuropathy. I guess I will call my doc tomorrow and see what he says.
  • I have the same issue and my last A1c was 5,6 in March. My BG averages about 85-120. It seems like the minute I go above that 120 mark, whether it's right after a meal or not, I get pain in my legs, feet or hands. Because of this I am trying to keep a tight rein on my blood sugar. Mainly keeping carbs to under 175g and…
  • I found this recipe and it's awesome. Good to try if you hate plain oatmeal like I do and need to cut out sugars. (I'm diabetic so I hear ya completely) 1/2 cup plain oats 1 cup milk (I prefer almond) 1/2 apple 1 tablespoon peanut butter or almond butter. Sprinkle of cinnamon Ice to taste or consistency preference. Mix in…
  • Managed to avoid all of the terrible foods at the supermarket. Granted I've been doing that for a while, but I was a lot more strict about it this time. Also hit the gym today and realized my friend who is 5 years younger couldn't keep up with me and we work out together.
  • Yup, my numbers get higher right before my cycle as well. I'm normally in the 95-100 range and the week before I shoot up to 120-135. You're not alone in that hormonal imbalances will throw off blood sugar numbers. As for protein, I'm at 30% and have not noticed a difference. However I also work out about 4 days a week, so…
