Except for the part where you're talking out of your ATG, sure. Most people who go low bar can't ATG it without losing tightness in their lower back.

Sounds like you were stuck being chronically under-recovered to me.

Overfatness is not genetic. Your genetics *may* alter your TDEE, but it's a rarity that it'll be more than 15% from some studies. Mind, 15% on the standard 2000 Calories-a-day diet is 300 calories, or about a single Klondie bar.

Note this advice doesn't work for the liquor store - never go to a liquor store drunk.

My spouse got angry with me for losing weight and begged me to stop; I went from 40% body fat to around 20% and ignored her whining entirely.

Form always wins, but barring missing reps and/or bad form there's no reason not to go up every session until you can no longer recovery adequately from one session to the next.

The methods of gaining strength for women aren't a lot different from men; women tend to do better at higher intensity than men, so once you're out of beginner status of whatever linear progression program you're on you may need to move to 5x3 rather than 3x5 sets. Otherwise, pick a linear progression program, lift with…

Under moderate stress I tend to eat more. Under high and sustained stress I tend to stop eating.

Somatypes are descriptive of frame and body type. They have no value beyond this.

I'll take "Strawmen" for two hundred Alex! I work to build strength because it makes the rest of my life easier. I "miss out" on feeling like crap most of the time for an investment of a whole four hours a week of weight room time. No one else is going to make my health a priority, and if me doing so is "rejecting to…

The nice physique is a side-effect of getting to a healthier weight and overall health, not the major driver - at least in my case.

If you've got the money, invest in a home barbell gym. Mine cost about USD 1500 end to end and will be completely functional for at least two decades. It's not pretty, but it's a lot cheaper than USD 50 a month for gym fees.

My "high protein diet" lets me keep within the calorie range I want to be in to maintain my weight and keep adding pounds to the bar. When I was on a lower protein (and a higher carbohydrate) diet I stalled hard at a certain point. Granted, this is an n=1 case, but (unencumbered by statistical data) I don't think I'm an…

Only if it's terribad hot and humid out. I ain't much to look at.

There's the question no one has a solid answer on. I don't have a number from when I was a fatass, but my current Free-T is right on the average for someone fifteen years younger. And research has borne out living longer won't massively increase life span, but will compress the time you spend circling the drain. My actual…

I would rather have a more healthy life overall than a longer one. As it is, men's T-levels drop they get older, and the more like women they become (harder to maintain/gain muscle mass, etc.). Men and women overall would be better served by losing the excess fat, moving more, and getting under a barbell. These things will…

Below parallel is just fine. A fair number of squatters can't go ATG without losing lumbar tension, and low bar squats are hard to ATG under the best of circumstances.

I seem to recall that's actually a safety feature of a good revolving door; if there's an emergency evacuation and it's forced, instead of trapping people the glass gives way allowing escape.

Your doctor having no idea what to do with you. I fit nicely into the "overweight" category for BMI and flat-out told him it doesn't apply because I'm stronger than I was two years ago at "normal" weight and carry a lot more muscle mass. He thinks I'm slightly crazy to try to keep lifting MORE weight as I chase my new…

Have you seen how "sports science" studies are done? All too typically it's utterly untrained people doing badly-defined silly *kitten* and drawing wide-swath conclusions that read: Must be studied further. Simply because it's from a professor doesn't make it inherently valuable.

I've contended for a long while now that senior year of High School should be Life 101. Subjects matter includes: * How to balance a checkbook. * Why credit cards are a trap * Situational awareness & self-defense * Comparison shopping 101 * Resume writing * Deciding what you really want in your career (should start…

One of the problems with PE classes from my old memories is they were boring; they were designed to be easy to grade and screw actually doing things that are useful.

Your beliefs do not trump proof, which the medical community and studies have.

Moved a server rack up a couple of steps and into its final stop on my own. Later checked and found it weighed 323 lbs.

I lost the first 2/3 of my overfatness by walking and eating less; I added weight training and haven't looked back.

I get he same thing, so I added lying triceps extension with an EZ curl bar as part of my squat warmup. It loosens everything from the shoulders outward so I can get into the perfect squat position.

Pulled a 300lb deadlift for three reps at 185lb bodyweight.
