  • Multivitamin = filling in the nutritional gaps in my diet. Greens/superfood = filling in the nutritional gaps in my diet. Fish oil = Omega 6s + cardiovascular health + general health. Whey protein = On workout days and days when I can't hit my protein target with whole foods. Glucosamine/MSM = Joint support. Also a Vitamin…
  • Mine did too but the only solution I found was to replace the earbuds. They were made by Phillips (I believe). Have never had problems with Skullcandies as a cheap pair of gym earbuds other than the fact that they are cheap! That means the cable can fray after a while, etc.
  • Edit: Eh, don't want to get involved in t his one.
  • You're suggesting that, on a 1,500 calorie diet, if I ate 100g of protein (leaving 1,100 calories to come from carbs and fats) I would would become obese compared to having 10g of protein (leaving 1,460 calories to come from carbs and fats.) That makes no sense.
  • Compare them to natural non-vegan BBers then. [And that's with the assumption that no "vegan" BBer cycles AND the assumption that a vegan BBer is on minimal protein macros.]
  • There isn't a single person or publication on that list that I would rely on for credible nutritional information. Serious. Least of all Dr. Oz.
  • Because who would else would advertise on a bodybuilding site?
  • It was good until they got rid of the suma root. (source: anecdotal broscience).
  • You should read it. You might find it good for a laugh as the dietician completely misrepresents the questions asked of her in order to make her point.
  • Syntha-6 is cheaper than Myofusion and ON, but it's also higher in carbs, fats, sugars, etc. across the board. Go with ON, buy it a 10-lb bag, and enjoy.
  • I'm curious what you're doing that causes you to burn 800-1000 calories per day above your usual daily activities. Say you're spinning at an intense level. With an accurate HRM you'd have to be going for anywhere from 1.5-2 hours a day to burn that many calories.
  • A single burger and a milkshake is 2-3x more protein than the daily requirement. I'll be generous and spot them a Whopper which contains about 30g of protein. A milkshake might (read: MIGHT) contain a whopping 20g of protein. So 50g of protein is 2-3x more than most people need? Meaning the daily requirement is 15-25g of…
  • No such thing as spot reduction means you can't specify where your body loses fat or inches. (With the very limited caveat that increased bloodflow to a region might have some slight imperceptible impact.) So doing 5,000 crunches and burning 500 calories won't shrink your stomach any more than burning 500 calories on the…
  • There's no "safe" fatburner but you can try to find one that has the fewest concentration of potentially dangerous ingredients. OxyElite Pro, for example, contains 1,3 Dim and the jury is still out on whether that is safe for you or not, especially when abused. The safest fatburners are going to be comprised primarily of…
  • A slice of pizza isn't even really unhealthy. It's equivalent to tomatoes, cheese, bread. "In moderation" just means a little bit of a bad thing won't set back your goals. Just be careful not "eat anything in moderation" doesn't become "eat anything and everything."
  • Appreciate you taking the time to find the sources. I don't see anything regarding priority of catabolizing in the sources though, and since I can't seem to support my statement that the body catabolizes protein FIRST I'll retract my statement. I don't disagree that fat is catabolized MOST, but I did disagree that fat is…
  • Exercise gets your heart-rate up which generally causes you to be more alert in the short-term. Exercise also requires energy which causes you to be tired. Run out of energy = tired.
  • He's still there! And he IS a moderator, last I checked. I think it makes a difference depending on exactly what it is the first poster is looking for? If her goal is to "be ripped" "year-round" then fruit makes no real difference because being ripped year-round is really just a function and achieving and maintaining low…
  • How is he doing low carb while eating a ton of nuts? By weight and calories nuts are extremely carby...

  • I am pretty sure this is not a myth, per se. It's just (a) not very significant, if at all, and (b) difficult to comply with. (a) Not very significant in that the difference between eating protein with 45 minutes to 1 hour won't really make a huge difference, since the muscles remain receptive to protein for many hours…
  • I sort of derailed this thread, unintentionally, but I'll retract some of the comments I made above pending additional scientific research. I would, however, still appreciate anyone posting additional studies to flesh out the science behind fasting. That's fair. Obviously, nobody NEEDS protein shakes. But that's partly…
  • As far as that goes, what are the pros/cons of higher protein intake than necessary vs. lower protein intake than necessary? Let' say Brad is right, and 100g is all you need. Pros: Adequate muscle repair/gain. Cons: None. But what if Brad is wrong? Pros: Save money on protein supplements. Cons: Wasting time/energy at the…
  • I'd appreciate it if you could double check that for me. From what I remember about Brad, his recommendation is at least 100g of protein per day. If that's the case, I'm curious why protein is recommended at all between fasts since, as I understand from this thread, your body doesn't need amino acids/lean tissue breakdown…
  • I think my disagreement, and your very common sense consideration, are both taken care of if you distinguish between the catabolization RATIO of protein/fats vs. the catabolization ORDER of proteins/fats. Note that I am not saying that lean muscle is exclusively catabolized first, only that: 1) the statement that fat…
  • For the sake of this discussion, these are the sources which the Wikipedia article cites to: http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories/burning_calories/starvation.htm "The main way it does this is to protect its fat stores and instead use lean tissue or muscle to provide it with some of the calories it needs to keep…
  • Agreed. The 52% of men who lied and said they wouldn't want to leave their woman if they gained weight.
  • I am not sure what you want a reference to. That protein in lean tissue will be broken down for amino acids (which cannot be obtained from adipose tissue)? Or that lean tissue will be broken down first in the absence of dietary calories? (Compare relative energy cost of breaking down proteins vs. breaking down fats.)…
  • Yeah, being a "beginner" again at everything is always tough. But try and just have fun with it!

  • Smoothies are very high up on the list of foods that sound healthy but are NOT.
  • You may be lactose intolerant.
