Hi, fasting glucose is a check that your glucose levels are appropriate when you have fasted. I'd recommend checking it anyway, even if you have eaten a lot the day before. If your glucose is under control it shouldn't make a difference, and if your glucose is still high after a 12 hour fast then that can indicate to your…

I agree with this, but just going to mention that when I joined up I never clicked on the 'Community' tab, had no idea there were helpful posts, and for the most part I just used my iPhone app which doesn't link to the forums at all. I think there are probably a huge number of people who use the site to log foods but never…

Great stories Varda and Raasy! I loved your assumption that as 'fat and flabby' you'd be a better runner than when you were fit, what a fantastic way to look at it rather than being too scared to even give it a go, Varda. Bearing in mind I have only been running since November... - What motivated you to get active? I lost…

When I was 20 my boyfriend's mother said to me, in front of him, "[your boyfriend] told me he thinks your thighs are getting fat." He swore he'd never said anything of the sort and I believe him, she was just a nasty witch who has a bad habit of deliberately insulting every girlfriend he'd ever had. I had gained a whole…

My mother didn't shy away from this stuff and I knew from about age 4 or 5 that the man's _______ goes in the woman's _______ and that is how the baby gets made. We were encouraged to ask questions and we all knew the mechanics of how it happened from a young age. We also knew it was something that adults did, and that it…

Well given her extreme weight loss I wouldn't be surprised if she had worked out for 6 hours a day. This is why I think the biggest loser is so weird, it's totally not setting these people up for real life. Most people can't maintain that forever.

As an aside, how tall are you? Because with your current weight at 117 and goal weight of 102 lb, unless you are under 5 foot tall I have some serious concerns about the necessity of trying to lose weight. Particularly in conjunction with a detox post.

I think if anyone had the nerve to say that to me I'd ask to see their Food Police identification badge, and congratulate them for being so advanced they, too, are aware you just ate something. Perhaps the mature response, however, would be to ignore it, yourself he's just a ****head, and go about your day. Congratulations…

Whatever works for you!

I'm not a seasoned runner at all, so feel free to ignore this... but I am running 5-7km 3x a week and I can't see how doing frequent 5k races would be too different than doing a hard 5km run each week as part of your training. Anyone else?

+1. Having been in a relationship like this once upon a few times, then gaining a bit of wisdom in hindsight I can see the stark difference between them and my current (fantastic, supportive) partner. If this is the ONLY thing he's doing that makes you wonder what planet he comes from then hopefully a serious talk (or…

Having taught nutrition to medical students I will absolutely back up this comment. Where I'm from they get 20 hours of nutrition training during six years of medical training, and the majority of them are 19 years old and see it as an easy subject that they don't need to study when they have more important things like…

I count everything except espresso coffee. For anyone worried about whether caffeinated drinks 'count', yes they do provided you are a) drinking that amount of caffeine regularly and b) you are not ingesting over 300mg of caffeine during the day. Over amounts of 300mg there is a 1.1mL increase in urine for every mg (e.g.…

I like this idea. Hadn't thought of it that way before. If have extra food that I am not going to eat on my plate I put it in the fridge for lunch tomorrow.

As an ex-swimmer who broke my coccyx, I'll say swimming should be fine but breaststroke kicking (the frog one) will probably be sore. Also I highly recommend carrying a nice squishy cushion with you for the next few months whenever you know you'll be sitting on hard seats!

WHY would you want to do this.

I used to. Now I just eat my fingernails instead.

You CAN run, you just gotta start slow and keep at it.

He sounds like a right douche bag.

I've never run a race but have done 29:30 during a normal run. I started C25K in November.

I use it to provide some extra fiber if I'm making hamburger patties. Crush it up, mix it in with the mincemeat, hey presto.

40-60 mins of running 3x a week. Plus a lot of walking.

What about a local animal shelter?

1400 is far too low, either total or net, for your weight. When it's too radical you lose a larger proportion of lean body mass than fat. If your doctor isn't a trained dietician I'd recommend seeing one to get a more appropriate calorie goal. Or calculate on iifym.com. 1400 is extremely low for male OR female at 279 lbs.

You can make healthy versions at home, you just need to do some googling for good recipes.
