  • I completely agree with some others who recommended weighing in every day. I lost 50 pounds about 10 years ago and kept it off pretty successfully. When I moved and didn't have a convenient place for a scale, the pounds started creeping up--really just like 5-7 pounds depending on the day, but it was a consistent upward…
  • So it seems that you've jumped by 250 calories max if you're logging correctly (1450 to 1700). That is seriously just over 2 Tbsp of peanut butter, maybe a 1/3 cup of raw nuts, a couple of Tbsp of olive oil... I guess it depends on what you're eating, but I wouldn't expect that kind of increase to make you uncomfortably…
  • As long as you still fluctuate down as well, it's not crazy at all. (You only mention getting bigger/clothes getting tighter.)
  • The three pounds could really just be from glycogen even though you only lost 14 overall. Basically when we go into a deficit, our body uses the available glycogen as fuel until it runs out. Then it turns to fat. This doesn't matter if someone ultimately loses 100 pounds or 10 pounds--of course with a caveat that there are…
  • I was just noticing today that mine's getting better, and I'm doing squats with heavy weights. I'm also making a standing desk following the plans at http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Ikea-Standing-desk-for-22-dollars.html. A colleague has one and loves it.
  • Funny - and I completely agree!
  • I do find this as well, but I have no idea why. Perhaps I've heard that exercise can actually reduce appetite.
  • I actually take about 6500 IU per day, and my level tested just about mid-normal. So I don't think there's much to worry about taking at least some of a supplement.
  • I wear my glasses, but usually an older pair. Sweat can hurt anti-reflective coating, so I avoid wearing new pairs I care about.
  • I added an egg to my oatmeal as it cooked, stirred it in continually along with the oatmeal. As someone who doesn't love eggs, I could barely tell it was in there.
  • Awesome! I was at a trade show yesterday, and a table had little Dove chocolates. In the past, I'm sure I would have grabbed one, but I thought "that's 42 calories." It wasn't thought in a way to tell myself I couldn't have one, but it was just the awareness of it that crossed my mind that made be pass them up.
  • This is awesome--great outlook!
  • I just started eating eggs for the first time in my life. I'm still not a huge fain, but sometimes I find they're like tofu--kind of tasteless and just absorb the flavor of whatever they're with. I appreciate these ideas. What I do most often is eat them with lots and lots of veggies. I suppose they're technically…
  • I found it noticeable (in a good way). I lost to below goal--ended up going quite below as I transitioned to maintenance slowly. My husband commented within a couple of weeks that I looked better. Plus, I was sick all last week so I didn't eat much. When my trainer first saw me again, he commented that I looked "depleted"…
  • I don't dress cute at all, though I guess I do pay attention to whether I clash when laying out my clothes the night before. I tend to wear old/non-stylish glasses that I don't care about getting sweaty. The only thing that bothers me though is if someone is wearing cologne or hair spray (that I've seen applied in the…
  • I pack and lay out clothes the night before. I also try to go to bed early. The main thing for me is that in the morning, there's only one excuse for not working out: I'm tired, and I can get past that. In the evening, there are a million excuses: I'm tired, I have errands to run, I have other commitments or something…
  • If you're worried about a glycogen bounce, maybe continue to lose a couple of more pounds so when you do go up, you'll still be at goal. I ended up gaining probably 5 pounds (but then I'm eating a bit over maintenance because it turns out I do actually want to gain a bit). Now I'm maintaining. And I can tell you that I…
  • I've looked into this a lot because I get these too, and even more since working on weight loss. (I'm in maintenance now.) It seems that there are a million theories, none of them conclusive. Last week, I was super-sick and in bed for 4-5 days. I noticed that I didn't get any cramps during this time, which seemed weird…
  • Crunch Berries! (We rarely had sugary cereals though, so it was a huge treat.) Not a fan of "oops, all berries" though.
  • I'm also 5'5" and 124. (I lost to 119 at one point, but that was way too low.) 1680 shouldn't be too much, and you'll probably be able to go higher than that-- maybe 1800-2000. I agree with the others that you should increase someone slowly. I know it seems scary and/or wasteful, but try adding a Tbsp of olive oil to a…
  • Nice post - congrats on your loss!
  • Yep, start NOW to turn things around. You can't change what you regret, but you have all the control in the world over your next steps.
  • 30DS killed my knees, and I was pretty fit before starting, used good form, etc. I didn't stop, but I majorly modified the cardio bursts to limit jumping, and I went at a slower pace. I finished because I had committed, but I would never do it consecutively like that again. (I took a day off between levels.) I've gone back…
  • I've been working with my trainer for a couple of months. At first he said no cardio because basically I'd be asking my muscles to do two different things--conflicting goals. But then he put me on a HIIT routine--so far, particularly designed runs that I should do 1-2 times per week. He's also said that regular cardio can…
  • On my own, I was probably spending about 90 minutes. I started working with a trainer and it only seemed to go up, which was a surprise. He has warm-up things for me to do and then we spend a hour together. He told me that the warm up should take me about 30 minutes and the workout an hour. On days I just do HIIT runs…
  • The Y by me is pretty much the same as my full-service gym. We chose the non-Y because we don't have kids, and the Y does more youth programming/birthday parties/etc. that would just get in our way.
  • I'm female, 5'5" and 124. BIA scales put me at 10-11% body fat, and a DEXA scan put me at 15.9% body fat. I started working with an awesome trainer around the start of February. He initially put me at 2,200 calories to gain a bit. Since we were spending a lot of time doing stability and foundation work, he agreed that I…
  • Arctic Zero shared their lab results in an update to the story: http://www.arcticzero.com/EMSL-Results.php Vanilla Maple came in at 34 and 36 calories per serving, or less than 150 calories per pint. Even if it is a bit more, I'm okay with that. As someone else said, it's still way better than other things...and those…
