  • This is my experience and understanding. I know that I'm an n-1, but I liberally salt everything and have low blood pressure. Not a problem unless I stand up to quickly from a resting position. My dr usually checks it twice during my visit, but isn't overly concerned because it is always low. Edit: I saw this in the news…
  • People with legitimate gluten issues can be effected by cross-contamination. This is why thinks such as oats are labeled "gluten free". I think it's great for those that need the information.
  • From your description, it doesn't sound like he does much. Would he even hit the minimum recommended? How long are his daily walks? Are they really daily or is it 3-4X per week? How often is occasional body weight exercises? Every January? I'm 48 and feel great. It does take a bit longer for me to recover, but no aches…
  • Yeah. It is silly. My BMI is 24 also. I work darn hard in the gym. That doesn't make BMI unrealistic or controversial. If I stopped working out, but remained at a 24 BMI, it would be obvious. BMI is just a metric. My guess is the person posting is not entirely who they say they are and are just bored/looking to stir up…
  • I prefer to "woman up" and drink what I choose due to personal preference and not because of what some misinformed internet warrior thinks. Anyway, I can't stand the way regular soda makes my teeth feel. I don't get that crunchy feel with diet drinks.
  • That is like saying the clean doesn't count unless you can jerk it. Seriously, do you even know the difference between power lifting and Olympic lifting.?
  • The truth sometimes is difficult to read, but ignoring the message because the messenger is not up to your standards will not help you reach your goals.
  • I switched to cronometer a few months back and don't find it at all tedious. I like that I don't have to double check entires for accuracy like I did when using MFP. The reason I switched was for the database accuracy but it's fun to see the micros.
  • Sorry that you can't do what you love anymore, but happy for you that you still work with what you've got. Eventually we all will have to make adjustments and come to terms with time and illness. I'm sure when that time comes for me, I'll find something else to keep my body moving. The older I get, the more aware I am that…
  • I had to take 5 days off due to foot pain. It wasn't super-painful but I know from experience that if I continued to run and not take a break that it would just get worse. I wasn't too perturbed because I had a good 2.5 month stretch of 6 days per week and the last 3 weeks I was averaging 50mpw. Anyway, I was back this…
  • Okay. I think this one may be unpopular, but every woman I know well enough to discuss weight management with, actively thinks about and works at maintaining a healthy weight. They may never have been classified as "overweight" simply because they stopped/reversed the weight gain when their pants start to get too tight. It…
  • That would be called a salad with chicken the US.
  • Have you ever been to the US? We have chicken and egg salad sandwiches, but when i think of a salad its greens (some sort of lettuce) with vegetables not sandwiches. Most all restaurants offer a salad made with made with lettuce usually called a side salad. But really, a salad can have anything included.…
  • http://www.runnersworld.com/peak-performance/running-v-walking-how-many-calories-will-you-burn I would just use the calculation for walking. The calorie count on your display is overinflated. Short running bursts will improve your fitness overall and get you to the point where you can consider running, but will not have a…

  • As a northerner who has never lived in the south, I've only seen the phrase "Bless your heart" being used as a nice way to call someone an idiot.
  • Good job! I love to see what older women are doing. I'm only 15 years away from 60 and great to have a point of reference.
  • Honestly, I think a lot of us can relate to this a little bit. I know I can. But it's just denial and not a mental disorder for the majority. I'm just glad I've always reigned it in before getting too out of control.
  • I have vivoactive active hr and don't trust the senor at all when exercising. It is especially bad when doing intervals. it seams to be okay for resting. I use a chest strap for running. Other than the hr sensor, i really like the watch overall.
  • I think people underestimate the value of a 30 minute walk. Seriously, not all exercise has to be HIIT or get you sweaty. I'm not a fast walker myself, but I really enjoy strolling around town catching pokemon listening to a podcast or audio book. Maybe you can't find time or money to go to a gym or buy specialized…
  • Audio books for the win. I can listen while doing everything from vacuuming to running. I'm not proud of it, but I don't think I've read anything for pleasure in years.
  • 5'4", 140 pounds, size 4 and maintain around 2500 calories. 45 years as well.
  • Agreed. I wrote in another fat acceptance thread about how I was a 1970's fat kid and bullied because of it. If it had been around, my stupid, younger self would have probably would have embraced the HAES movement whole-heatedly. I am so happy I didn't have a bunch of crabs pulling me down telling lies about how great…
  • Alternate headline? North Americans have the Healthiest Guts in the World
  • Me, yes I was. I didn't measure my body fat, but I have no doubt I was carrying more fat that was healthy or attractive. Honestly looking at myself was key. For me it's a slippery slope. Once you get comfortable being 5 pounds over fat, it is easy to forgive 10 or 15 pounds.

  • It's actually more likely to under report being overweight/obese. https://examine.com/nutrition/how-valid-is-bmi-as-a-measure-of-health-and-obesity/. Not really surprising when you take a look at the population.

  • You did. You wrote "You are an outlier or you need to reevaluate what you are seeing". I assumed the "you" was a general "you" and not directed towards anyone specifically. Honestly, no idea why the issue with the statement.
