So does the FT4 give you calories burned? I have the FT1 and i am going to return it for the FT7 because i thought that was the only one that has continuous heart rate with calories burned as well. I was told the FT1 counts calories but dicscovered it does not.... Thanks and i appreciate any info!

For me it depends on how heavy i lift. I recovery days are a necessity because your body does need to rest. One or even two days is good and you can break them up however you like.

I log my protein shake because it is considered a meal replacement. Mine is 350 calories for the three scoops plus protein and carbs. Your TDEE - what % are you doing?
