  • Oooh I forgot about the Prodigy! Used to work up a sweat just dancing to them, let alone exercising  got to dig out those old CDs!
  • Generally... Fatboy Slim Chemical Brothers Pink (especially Trouble & Feel Good Time - loads of kick-*kitten* attitude!) And when I really want to up the pace... Asian Dub Foundation: Real Great Britain Vampire Weekend: A-Punk Transglobal Underground: The Khaleegi Stomp (the fast version from Impossible Broadcasting) Maybe…
  • Remember it's not the individual days that will make or break your diet, but your ability to be honest with yourself over a period of time. The MFP iPhone app shows your average daily calories over the course of a week - so on days when I am over, I take comfort from knowing that on average, I can still be under my limit -…
  • Amazing - your hard work over the year has paid off spectacularly!!
  • Well done folks!! :flowerforyou: Mine is only a little bonus...watched Masterchef last night practically drooling over every dish the contestants were making, but resisted the temptation to eat something
  • Brian makes a very good point - your dad might not even realise it himself, but it's quite possible he is just being overly protective (controlling...?) about what you are wearing. Don't take any notice! I am worried by your aim of getting down to 35 kgs. That would put your BMI at 16.6, WAY underweight! You are bang in…
  • Mmm balsamic vinegar all the way! I like sour things so I often just splash it on salads neat. (Obviously in moderation, not like half a bottle  ) Also, Kraft has a low-fat honey & mustard dressing, I think it's about 16 kcal per tablespoon, it really livens up a salad!
  • You could try upping your exercise to 3-4 times a week - it makes it easier to stay under your calories! It won't necessarily help budge the scales instantly, but you'll be developing a fitter, leaner body - good luck and don't lose heart!
  • BUMP  I'd love to see some more ideas!
  • My favourites: Ryvita fruit crunch (57 kcal) - lovely with a cuppa, and it gives you fibre All the Alpen light bars (59-63 kcal) - I've tried choc & fudge, choc & orange, apple & sultana and they're all gorgeous AND lots of fibre  Options hot chocolates (38-40 kcal) - I'm addicted to them!! Passion fruits (17 kcal…
  • What calculators were these that say you're obese? Your BMI is closer to 'normal' than to 'obese'...so don't get too upset! :flowerforyou: As for body fat percentage, I'm no expert but I don't think it's that simple to measure, and there must be a high margin of error! Short of actually taking your body apart and weighing…
  • Sorry, I got your name wrong - I meant Dom :flowerforyou:
  • Hi Lisa, I also hate running with a passion...I've got slightly dodgy joints/shins which don't take kindly to running, must be the repeated shocks as my feet hit the ground. So...I bought an exercise bike instead! First few times my bum muscles were really sore, but they've got used to it and now I can happily pedal for…
  • Hi, I know what you mean about fluctuating weight - my weight loss curve looks more like a mountain range than a ski slope! The bad news is, you can't control everything on a day to day basis - on some days, your weight will be up even if you're sticking to your calories (for example, I find that after strenuous…
  • Nothing wrong with losing 'only' 3 pounds in less than a month, that's close to a pound a week - definitely not something to sniff at! And being 'within the same pound for 6 days' may be in line with that. I've just posted on another thread about the accuracy of scales - this could influence what you see going on…
  • Something just occurred to me about plateau-ing...what I haven't seen mentioned so far is two issues about weigh-ins that can influence our perceptions of plateaus (on top of all those other confounding factors  ) Firstly, accuracy: if your scales only show full pounds, then say a 1/4 pound loss won't show up. I…
  • Thanks - I wasn't equating starvation mode with anorexia, anorexia is a psychological condition whereas starvation mode is a physiological state that can be (but does not have to be) linked to anorexia. My point was that I don't believe a slower metabolism can ever outweigh the consequences of consuming less than…
  • Hi, thanks but that does not answer my question...I'm not arguing with metabolism slowing down, I just can't see how it would completely stop you losing weight. You'd be losing weight more slowly perhaps, but you would still be losing it. As for the link, it's written about one single person and it's embellished throughout…
  • Just one more little logical musing... If in 'true' starvation mode (i.e. VERY low net calories - I'm talking about something like 300-400 net kcal a day over a prolonged period), it was possible for the human body to stop losing weight or even put weight back on...how would anorexics ever reach the point that they (sadly)…
  • My readings on 'starvation mode' (without having done a systematic literature review I hasten to add, but using common sense and my research methodology training) make me think of a Don Marquis quote: "An idea is not responsible for the people who believe in it" There must be genuine processes and changes that take place…
  • I second all of the above! It sounds like you have issues about how you view your weight, which makes it hard for you to accept that you are NOWHERE NEAR "hefty" - anyone who says that has their own issues or agendas (or is just insanely jealous). I really hope you can keep your self-esteem and don't get mentally sucked…
  • Please go to a proper doctor and ignore the dance physio...she sounds like she'll be more concerned with her dance agenda than your health!!! I can only join others in saying, you are very skinny, even my dance teacher hasn't got abs like yours! Your ticker says you're aiming to lose another 12.5 kgs, is that right?? That…
  • Hi Katy, thanks for posting - that's the one I found as well - but it says zero fibre...I suspect they simply didn't provide the fibre content, rather than it actually being zero...
  • Wowww...4 hours of exercise a day? :noway: Don't take this the wrong way, but why are you worried about a little snack after dinner? Surely you've more than earned it!!
  • I understand you must be annoyed, and I agree that it is not good to over-indulge children in general. But I think there is a difference between over-indulgence and enjoying sweets in moderation. What struck me was that you say your son doesn't even know what sweets are - are you sure this is really the best way to educate…
  • Oh, and as for dinner tips for 248 kcal - how about a pouch of Young's fish fillet in butter sauce (around 100 kcal) with some steamed veg and new potatoes? Alternatively, you could top up your calorie allowance by doing exercise
  • "Tea" is the name for "dinner" in some parts of the UK - I also found it confusing at first!
  • One thing that works well for me is a cup of Options hot chocolate - it comes in various flavours and has under 40 kcal per 11g made with 200ml boiling water. As it's very hot, it certainly takes longer to consumer than a bar of chocolate, and tastes just as satisfying!
  • Sorry but that's a bit of a cop-out reply - if we knew the answer already, we wouldn't be asking  Whilst I love MFP and feel confident that it's going to be a major help for me to achieve my goals, I do think it can be a bit inconsistent with regards to advice. Yesterday I was 400 kcal under my target because I did…
  • I've seen so much conflicting advice about this by now...but I've just found an explanation - finally! - that makes sense to me: http://www.healthscience.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=512:are-you-in-the-starvation-mode-or-starving-for-truth&catid=102:jeff-novicks-blog&Itemid=267 In a nutshell: even if…
