Pre/Post workout - cheesecake & ice cream :)

Personally, I think that eating back your exercise calories is a simplistic statement that needs to be put in the context of where you are in your fitness journey and what you've been eating or not eating :) I am more a proponent of eating back your exercise calories occasionally. If you have been dieting hard for a week,…

Alleyag is right about this and I also supplement with BCAA - especially when I am doing my cardio / lower carbohydrate day. BCAA's are old school but they've come back into popularity especially when you are trying to burn fat & protect muscle..
-
That stinks - I would keep the friend but find a new workout partner. I had the same situation.. I train alone now and push myself since my buddy just wouldn't show up or when he did he wanted to use his mouth more than his muscles.
-
I never go low carb for more than two to three days so I don't really have this problem.. I would suggest considering a day to bump your carbs back up every now and then. Frequency dependent upon your restriction. Carbs are anabolic!
-
Carbs are premium fuel and anabolic! Eating 20 grams or less is tough and if you are first starting out I would stay away from this to start out with.. Not saying it's wrong just adding my 2 cents :) If you want change back, I'm sorry..
-
I would vary it... Don't go too long for long it will work against yourself. In fact, I plan a day where I eat everything back pretty frequently.

Go to goals and customize them, this will show you the percents. Bumping up the protein a bit is a good idea.' This is a good resource: http://www.scoobysworkshop.com/caloriecalculator.htm Also adjusting macros should be tailored to your body -- everyone is not the same. The idea that low fat is a good/better seems a bit…

Good post a few other thoughts on the points that you make. Multiple Meals: This is anabolic and provides your body with a steady slow stream of nutrients. This also limits insulin spikes. Carbs/Early workouts: The other benefit to waking up early and eating carbs pre and post is that you HIT the window for the time when…

No disrespect to veggies but I eat so much Chicken I think I'm starting to grow feathers, LOL. Also I have a question about this - do motives matter? I know some vegetarians that do long workouts without any pre/intra workout nutrition. Obviously, this is catabolic -- they are eating their own muscle. Is the aformentioned…

What are exercise calories?

Scales stink.. My diet is a bit wacky but I have had weight changes of +7 or so pounds in a single day. If they get in your head too much, try switching over to weighing once a week at the same time (first thing in the AM) The main thing is to keep going and don't give up! Head down, feet forward, scales out of your mind..…

No idea.. Sorry, there are electric hand held units but I don't think they are worth the extra $

There's no question that low carbs can work..but you tend to sacrifice muscle. I've done it before but now days, I only go low carb for 3 days and then re-load on carbohydrates. This approach seems to have the best of both worlds fat burning and muscle building. There's a whole long list of reasons why I think this is…

I would save your $ and buy one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Accu-Measure-Fitness-3000-Personal-Tester/dp/B000G7YW74 http://www.amazon.com/Acczilla-Personal-Body-Fat-Tester/dp/B004RBFOZO/ref=zg_bs_3777181_10 Very accurate and cheap.. My measurements match those of the ones that I used to have done in the gym.

Elliptical HIIT, Stairmaster max incline moderate pace, drop sets for weights, and of course P90X & Insanity. Good stuff.

Hmm, I've got plenty of books on my shelf. One that I would highly recommend would be Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle by Tom Venuto - He makes a very good case for the multiple meals, and why you shouldn't eat before bed :) I like to read stuff that challenges the way I think and perhaps this is for you as well. As far as…

Let me clarify. The body can not store protein and amino acids only stay in your blood stream for a few hours after you've consumed them. So the multiple meals ensure that you stay in positive nitrogen balance as you've got a stead stream of amino's. No catabolism. Slow digesting proteins like cottage cheese (casein) are…

Cave man, yawn I could care less about him.. Eating 6 meals a day pevents catabolic feeding on your muscles.. With the proper macros you can enter into fat burning melting mode with sacrificing lean muscle. A reloading day on carbs can then be used to restore depleted glycogen. I started out at 245 with a very high…

I usually opt for a cheat meal earlier in the day instead of a whole day. When I am trying to get lean I cycle my calories and "reload" on good clean carbs 1 reload day for every 3 "lean" days

Talk to a MD about your injury.. RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation -- hope you've been doing this (depending upon injury) I've been taking Super Cissus for knee problems (after seeing an MD) and I believe that it's faciliated my recovery.
-
I like Jack3d but I also cycle off of it for long periods as I don't want my body to adjust to it.. Espresso in the AM (black/plain) is another favorite and works as well ;)
-
I subscribe to eating every 3 hours - lean protein, moderate carb, and fat. This is anabolic and makes sure that I don't feed on the muscle / effort / time that I've invested in the gym. I'd rather eat more - feed the muscle and burn the fat via exercise (gradually) Try to avoid carbs before bed and take in casein to keep…

I think they are great post workout or a pinch / stay in positive nitrogen balance w protein. Liquid is easier to digest so I try to get plenty of lean protein from food ;)

Doesn't apply to you but I like this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf1DCJ1xIdU&feature=player_embedded

Faces are for facebook? >8) Don't know why, I just feel a bit odd about it - perhaps b/c of my previous/current profile pictures, lol
-
Yeah, cottage cheese is high in whey and low in fat.. I usually eat it before bed with no carbs - I can't imagine waking up eating the stuff and then hitting the snooze button.
-
I like fat free cottage cheese w fruit and or wheat germ

Are cats a lean source of protein?? I'm getting a bit tired of all of the chicken that I've been eating and concerned about feathers growth... ;) Just teasing...
