To put on 4 pounds of fat, you would have had to have eaten 14000 extra calories in those 2 days. What you are seeing is water and glycogen. Drink a healthy amount of water in the next couple of days, and those 4 pounds will disappear. This happens to me almost every weekend. I'll jump up 2 or 3 pounds on Sunday, and then…

I do a couple of things. First, I try not to go over my maintenance number. That way, the day doesn't send be backwards. It's just a lost day weight-loss wise. These kind of days will happen every month or so. Birthdays, weddings, holidays, business trips, going to a sporting event. There's always something. For me, eating…

It's not worth it if you let it derail you completely. In another post, I suggested a strategy to include a cheat day if you wanted it. It's pretty simple. One day a week, eat your maintain number instead of your deficit number. If your weight loss goal is one pound a week, this will give you 500 extra calories on that…

I've thought about it in a couple of ways. Weight loss takes time. During that time, there are going to be special days; birthdays, weddings, going to a sporting event, catered work meeting, etc. I've had 2 of those types of days since the beginning of the year. On those days, I 'cheated' by eating my maintain number…

I am 34 pounds down. I think MFP asks to reset your calories every 10 pounds, as I seem to remember that, and I've been prompted to do it 2 or 3 times. When I started, my calories were 1790 something? Now they are 1610. You have to recalculate and go by the new number, or you will lose more slowly and stop losing all…

When does plan B become plan A?

Heh. I am just the opposite. Cake is my least favorite dessert. I would be disappointed if I had a piece of cake, and pie was available later. My family even knows to get me a birthday pie!

I am planning to get a body fat scale, so when I get to this point, I can use that as the unit of measure. Congrats on being there!

I am an every day weigher. I understand about normal fluctuations, so I don't get discouraged by an unexpected jump. But seeing the 'new low' makes me very happy. I don't want to miss it.

I just got back from a vacation, and my attitude was one of indulgence. My weight loss plan is 2 pounds a week, so a deficit of 1000 cals. While on vacation, I still logged, but set my goal to gain no more than 1 pound. This gave me 1500 more calories per day than normal, which was plenty. Any devoted exercise I did I…

Terrible advice.

I am going in a different direction here. What you did for the girl was great, and you went at it wisely. Very nicely done. However, I think you are using that stress as an excuse to overeat. The good part is that you recognized it. The bad part is you did it anyway. Drop the excuses. I am going on vacation next week, and…

I weigh in the morning after I pee, too. I also weigh every day, unlike some people suggest. I understand water and other fluctuations. But I don't want to miss a low day. I get more discouraged not seeing progress than seeing normal ups and downs. If I would weigh only once a week, it might appear I lost nothing (or…

Definitely set a range. If your goal weight is 135, don't stress about anything unless you hit 140. If you do, go back to a deficit until you hit the 135 again. If you maintain properly, you should never hit that 140 number. I disagree with the suggestion of not weighing every day, though. If you weigh only once a week,…

My wife and I like the deli flats in the bread section. They are 100 calories each, and work for us for peanut butter, cheese sandwiches, burgers, black bean patties, or whatever. Compared to 200 calories for 2 typical pieces of bread, it's a caloric bargain.

I am going to try this next week. Partly because it sounds tasty. Partly because I chuckled for 5 minutes over the use of the word "nanner." =)

I just had my annual appointment with my doctor last week, and discussed this with him. I too always have sodium way over goal. He said that controlling everything (fat, carbs, sodium, cholesterol) is difficult. Since my blood pressure was fine, he said to not worry about the sodium. I also think that overall (since my BP…

That was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek complaint, in celebration of an NSV. =) I don't think it'll be worth the hassle of getting altered, as my goal is to to lose 30 to 40 more. I'll probably donate it for the tax write-off this year. Thanks, all.

Which would be something I would do if none of the biometrics sensing is done through the watch. That was my question.
-
For the Polar FT4, do you need to wear the watch, or is all of the biometric sensing done by the chest strap? I am looking to get a monitor, but I want to use it for my boxing workouts, and fear the watch will be too uncomfortable under the boxing glove. Thanks

I've felt that way before. It was when I was on the verge of giving up entirely, and just accepting that this is the way I was. It sucked, and I hated it. I hated wearing the same 2 pairs of pants every day because the rest didn't fit. So for me, yes, it's going to be worth it, if only to feel better about how I look in a…

January 2013, my doctor told me about MFP. I started using it at the beginning of this year. I had my annual appointment today, and was able to tell him I'd lost 20 lbs using it. He smiled big and stood and shook my hand. Felt good.

I 'cheat' on Saturdays. My exercise during the week puts me well below my goal calories on a couple of days. I don't eat back the extra calories for big workouts, so I am about 1000 to 1500 under budget by Saturday night. So I enjoy a nice night out with the wife on Saturday. I get the big beer and don't stress about my…

Lost 60 pounds 12 years ago. Have gained it all back, and working on shedding it again. My best NSV from back then that I am hoping to experience again: Walking out of a store, I spy a cute woman walking in. A few steps after I pass her, I turn to check her out. She has turned as well to check me out. I was too surprised…
