  • I think maybe she didn't write that all that well and we might have misunderstood her. I listen to her podcast quite a bit and usually she is talking about NET calories. Maybe she just forgot to write NET or thought it would be too long to explain what that means, it was a Facebook status update after all. Not that I'm…
  • 1 cup spinach 2 kiwis with skin removed 1 mango or 1 banana 1 cup water ice few fresh mint leaves 1 scoop protein powder (optional) If you don't think it is sweet enough you can use orange juice instead of the water.
  • i usually have 1.5cups of skim milk thrown in the blender with a whole banana and scoop of protein powder and a few cubes of ice. Then i drink it on the drive to work. Sometimes i also add berries and or 1/4 cup of rolled oats or 1 tbs of chia seeds which i stir in after blending so they don't get stuck in the blender. I…
  • You can test if it is water weight by focusing on having a few low salt days and drinking lots of water and either lemon juice in water or dandelion tea. Maybe even just only do cardio on those days rather than weights. In as little as a day, or maybe 2, or 3 you should notice a difference on the scale if it is water. If…
  • I think i pretty much have the same facilities at work as you. I usually just eat dinner leftovers for lunch. I also don'' really like eating sandwiches and plain salads i get tired of (with one exception below). If i ate something for dinner that doesn't have left overs my options usually are: - salad with a microwaved…
  • 95. I don't think it really accounts for enough variables though. Like family history of disease etc. Fun though. Apparently i don't need to change anything :)
  • have about 100 cals worth of dark chocolate. My favourite brands are the Black and Gold's Maya orange dark chocolate. Or some of the lindt ones. 100 cals isn't much, maybe 4 squares of Black and Gold or 2 squares of lindt. But it is pretty intense chocolate so i personally never want to eat more than that, and then that is…
  • HRM is by far the the most accurate.
  • hi. I'm in Roxby Downs, South Australia. You can add me if you like.
  • i have a Feya brand one that is incredible. Expensive, but totally worth it. I think they make up to size H, so they'd have one that would fit you and they specialise in bigger sizes with more support.
  • I think about a week for each. The solid almond bits grow mould when they get too old (learnt this from experience!). You could probably keep the solid bits for longer though by roasting them in the oven, or dehydrating them in a dehydrator. Then they'd probably last month like regular almonds.

  • I find the So Good brand of almond milk WAY too sweet for anything except fruit smoothies. It is much better to make your own then you adjust how rich and how sweet it is to your personal taste. It is simple as: - soak almonds in water overnight. - blend almonds with water in blender - put milk through a sieve or use a nut…

  • stirfrys are already pretty healthy. Just use lots of veggies and use a non-stick wok with only a spray of oil. Plus if you keep your cupboard stocked with the basics like soy sauce, fish sauce, etc rather than using premixed sauces. Then you can flavour it with natural real ingredients. Also flavour like garlic and…
  • a friend of mine is making me a proper hula hoop. She runs classes here too in my tiny mining town.
  • I also drink up and go. If i have slightly more time i make a breakfast smoothie from: - 1 banana - cup of milk -scoop of unflavoured protein powder - 1/4 cup oats - sometimes some blueberries. Wiz up in blender If i had no up and gos in my fridge and no time to clean the blender if it is dirty or get it out etc. Then…
  • bump. I reckon this might be able to be adapted for a hiking recipe with a camp stove.
  • to update, i found a good deal on a barbell/dumbell set so bought it. However the benefit of the sandbag was it gave me a free way to get started with the program without a gym membership to see if i really liked it or not. And it is entirely suitable for stage 1 exercises, could be for more than that too.
  • Bodymediafit. It is really useful knowing what you burn in a day from regular activity. There are lots of free ways to exercise out there, or whatever you already own. But it isn't so easy to know what you are burning calorie wise with any accuracy unless you have some kind of measuring device like this. I have a fibit for…
  • i've made myself a sandbag too for heavy lifting. just filled a camping style dry bag with 20kg worth of sand then put it in a duffle bag. It is useful for all sorts of exercises you'd usually use a barbell for. And in some ways more versatile as there are some exercise where you can do a lift and then do a pushup right…

  • I've just started 'The New Rules of Lifting for Women' which i'm trying to do at home with the little equipment i have. It uses quite heavy weights, so i have a sandbag i made which for some of the exercises i'll make 50 pounds (23kg) or so. But for other exercises i use lighter weights.
  • Don't quit. It sounds like you have a lot going on right now, including some things that are out of your control. But how you eat and exercise IS in your hands. you'll feel better about yourself and life in general if you achieve in this area of your life, and then probably all the other areas will then fall into place too…
  • My usual shopping list: Blu Pearl Couscous. They actually have a mistake on their label listing the number of portions and calories on it. But when you work out what it is for the whole packet, then divide it by 4 or 5 which is what it is supposed to be, it really isn't that bad. Supposed to be low GI too. Greenseas…
  • i make my own mostly. Yoghurt with stewed fruit, boiled eggs, carrot sticks with almond butter, fruit etc. But pre-package snacks... those little tunas in a can if you get the ones that aren't in oil and often they are still flavoured are around only 100 cals and are full of protein so are really filling (i buy the…
  • i have a Suunto which i love. Polar is another good brand. But just get whatever you can afford. I got mine free with my frequent flyer points.
  • when the weather is good for walking outside i do this a bit. But i wear a HRM to record it. And just make my own category in MFP (walking with hand weights) I'd never trust some kind of estimate on here. And it is no good me giving you what calories i do since when i walk i walk on sand dunes. Get a HRM, you'll never look…
  • verjuice is wonderful with mushrooms. Maggie Beer produces it. Alot of grocery stores have it these days. Just cook your mushrooms in a saucepan or roast them as normal, and then just before you take them off sprinkle over some verjuice and then cook it off. It is incredible. Completely lifts the flavour by adding a bit of…
  • just roll with it. It is good you are listening to your body, it obviously needs the extra calories. At that level you'll still be loosing weight, so don't worry about it! Force yourself to eat less and you may plateau and/or get sick.
  • i agree with everyone who suggests you try some lower calorie coffee options. A small amount of caffeine is good for boosting your metabolism. I drink coffee in some form every day. Since getting into roasting and grinding my own beans at home, which i must say is 100% better than anything else, i now drink an expresso…
