CSIRO Diet guidelines
Since apparently the CSIRO diet is the Australian Government guidelines i was hoping to customise my goals to match that in MFP. But i can't seem to find the information online about what exact percentage of calories from fat, protein, carbs i should set this as. Does anyone know? I know it is fairly high in protein. From…

chocolate truffle no bake protein bars.
I adapted this recipe from somewhere else. Were surprisingly good so i thought i'd share. And each one has about 10g of protein and about 180 calories. Very filling. Makes 8 bars: - 1 banana - 1 1/2 cups rolled oats - 1 tbs chia seeds - 2 scoops unflavoured (chocolate or vanilla) whey powder - 2 tbs peanut butter - 2 tbs…

Cathe STS 1RM
Just a question for all experienced Catheletes. I've decided to give this program a go. And i wanted to do it properly with all my 1RMs set. I did them all for the disc 1 and today my biceps are killing me! Disc 2 seems to be arm type movements too so i think i need a day off before i attempt to continue. Although i am…

bbc fasting documentary: what do you all think?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD3ug4EaKb0 That link above is for a documentary made for he BBC called Eat, Fast and Live Longer. It basically going into the science behind intermittent fasting (IF). I'd always thought it all was a lot of crap, and that IF was just a way for people to justify their eating disorders or low…

JM video supports EMTWL
While on podcasts i'd hear Jillian Michaels criticise the EMTWL type philosophy, it is the complete opposite in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSpZN4imD44&feature=relmfu Talks about why it is important to eat clean How you don't want more than a 500cal deficit and how starving yourself will ruin your metabolism.

New to stronglifts and loving it!
I just wanted to say how much i'm loving this program! I was originally doing NROLFW and was somewhere in the middle of level 3, but was disapointed that after going to all the effort of getting a squat stands and everything to do the program at home but then there wasn't many squats at all. Also i was going to have to…

flooring for my home gym
Hi, just wondering what anyone who workouts at home does for their flooring? I used to workout on a carpeted surface, but my squat racks don't fit so am now outside under the carport on concrete. At the moment the deadlifts are light enough i can lower the bar down gently but am worried about the long run. Saw lots of…

Any Aussies doing EMTWL?
Hi, I'm keen to add to my collection of Aussie Women MFPs some more Aussie women who are doing EMTWL especially if you are also doing NROLFW. Sorry i don't usually have male friends on here. I'm on stage 2 of NROLFW and following the eating guidelines of EMTWL for only about 2 weeks now. So pretty new and yet to see any…

question about netting BMR and fitbit
Ok i'm just trying to get my head around this. I use my fibit to workout my TDEE accurately. My average over a week including workout and a non workout day is 2300cals per day. So if i want to eat the same thing every day i should eat 2300-15% which is 1955 cals That's fine, i get that. But now to this thing about netting…

How i used my fitbit to workout what i should eat.
Ok, i'm posting this so anyone can tell me if i'm going wrong, but also so i can perhaps be an example of how someone can use a Fitbit which more accurately calculates the TDEE. Ok i've had a fitbit for several months now so i have a pretty good idea of what i burn in total in a day. That includes all exercise, BMR and…

body fat % calculator
Hi, I've been listening to a podcast called 'Fat to Fit Radio'. They advocate using body fat % as a better way of calculating what you should weigh rather than BMI or just what you weight. They have several things where you input some tape measure measurements and it calculates it from that. They are here:…

home modifications: use of sandbag instead of barbell (and s
Hi. I'm only on stage 1 and i suspect that this isn't going to work for the entire program and i'm going to have to go to to a gym eventually. But i thought i'd share this. I don't have a gym membership (poor student) and i don't have the room for lots of fitness equipment either. I only owned a few barbie weights and a…

Using fitbit to calculate calories
Hi, I've decided that upping my cals and doing weights is the right way to go. I've so far done 4 workouts of Stage 1 of TNRFLFW and i'm loving it and feeling much stronger already. Now i have a fitbit which i got so i could better estimate the number of calories i burn in the day for daily activity. It has shown me that i…

I'm not sore? Not hard enough?
I'm on stage 1. Done 4 workouts now. the first 2 i did i was really sore the next day afterwards, and sometimes even the day after that. Now i'm not sore at all. On workout 3, it felt just way too easy. So i doubled the weight i was lifting in workout 4. Thought for sure i'd be sore today, especially since it felt quite…

Double Chocolate Chip Muffins (dairy free)
This recipe was originally inspired by a Jillian Michaels one. But i changed a lot of the ingredients to make it more low calorie, and in my opinion more delicious by making it more chocolately :) Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups wholemeal flour (I use Indian Atta Flour which has a nice texture) 1 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup dark…

Housework Cals - the pitfalls
Hi. I just thought i'd share some thing i have recently learnt as i think it might help some other people too. Now i know there is a big debate about whether or not to count things like housework, gardening, moving boxes when moving house etc as exercise. I'd always thought, well if it is something unusual, not part of my…

paleo diet - uuuuhhhh!$%@##$@#
Just a little rant, but i'm so sick of the psudo-science that goes with the whole paelo diet! It irritates me more than most propaganda for fad diets because 1. i'm an archaeologist and they use false claims about archaeological findings to support their diet 2. there are so many people following this diet on here, to the…

Zucchini Chocolate Cake with Yoghurt Cream Frosting
Just made this up. It resembled a carrot cake in many ways so i wanted something a bit like cream cheese frosting only healthier so i made up 'yoghurt cream' as something to dollop on top when serving. Makes 16 pieces at 150 calories per serve. Yoghurt cream is only 20 or so calories depending on the yoghurt you use.…

Vegetable Pie (How to use up your fridge's contents before h
If you are like me and going away for christmas then you are probably trying desperately hard to use up what is in your fridge before going on holidays. Meat is easy to freeze, so mostly this is fresh fruit and vegetables. Here is a good way of using up whatever vegetables you have in the fridge into a kind of vegetable…

Rhubarb and Apple Meringue - only 71 cals a serve!
Rhubarb and Apple Meringue. Serves 4 (huge serves too, as in a whole cereal bowl full!, could actually divide into 8 if you aren't as greedy as i am) 2 apples (i like pink lady), pealed, cored and sliced finely. Avoid green apples as these might be too sour. 1 whole bunch of rhubarb, leaves removed and chopped into small…

Do you wear shoes during indoor workout DVDs?
I just realised that i haven't been wearing any shoes at all while doing the 30DS. At first i had a bit of leg pain but it seems to have gone away. I also am working on on a hard laminate surface, not carpet. I think it probably changes the way i do jumping jacks and stuff too - being more up on my toes than flat on my…

sleepy in the afternoons
I'm always so sleepy once it hits about 3pm. In the past i would have had a coffee right about now to get me through the rest f the work day/evening. But i'm trying not to have any horrible instant coffee at the moment, (which is all the we have at work) and am only occasionally having tea. I got over the withdrawal…

Resting Heart Rate Chart

Calling all Australians!
Hi, I've been on this site a while and find it overwhelmingly American which is generally fine, but it would be nice to have some Australian friends as we have our own available foods, activities and work in Kg instead of pounds. I'm getting a little sick about reading about low fat fudgesicles and peanut butter things -…

Healthy Dinners to eat on long car drives (and snacks)
I regularly have 6hr car drives through the middle of nowhere usually with nowhere much to stop and get food, and certainly nothing healthy (there is only 1 town between here and the city and it only has McDonalds, Hungry Jacks and KFC open at nights). I can't stand any of the McDonalds healthy options so always try to…

Calculating calories in home brew
I make my own cider and ginger beer but have no idea how I should be calculating the calorie content of them. Should I just be adding up the original ingredients or does the fermentation process which converts the sugars to alcohol change it - I of course know alcohol has calories too... Anyone know for sure?
