You can roast just about any veg this way and it always comes out SO good! I really love to slice carrots somewhat thinly and roast them on a cookie sheet. Oh broccoli's good too.

Oh yeah - another good one is pork chops or a roast, with a few packets of low-sodium brown gravy and 2 cups water thrown in. Let cook on low for 6 hours. I don't want to know what chemicals are in the gravy mix. I'm not even going to read the ingredients until I think I have a decent substitute.

Our hands down go-to is a spicy chicken in the crock pot. You need a big pot for this one! [http]http://www.food.com/recipe/crock-pot-whole-chicken-33671[/http] It is FABULOUS in a chicken noodle soup and it's the first thing I make when anybody's getting sick. Let the chicken cook all day, then do this when it's done and…

Great work. I can really relate to the whole "doing it for years but not seeing changes" because that's what I was doing as well. I've finally figured out what works for me (why is it always SO simple, and I was just avoiding it) - looking forward to being a success as well. Congratulations!

Wow, amazing transformation. You look fantastic - you will be running up those mountains!

Just incredible, such hard work pays off!! Wow.

So glad to see this topic and I hope more people chime in. I've stopped lifting temporarily and do cardio every day, but will be ready to add the weights back in very soon. The health and metabolism benefits are too great to ignore (and it's fun) but it does make me hungry!

I just do. I always have water with me, I don't even know how much I drink each day. Yes, I don't go anywhere without my bottle of water, I'm a baby, waa waa. :) Many moons ago when the earth was cooling and dinosaurs roamed the land, I drank nothing but cokes. All day every day. I decided to stop drinking sugar - no more…

I needed this thread. I am 47, 5'4, 157lbs (WHAT? yes.) and muscular. God help me I am built like my daddy. I have fat around my NECK. What worked 5 or 6 years ago to get the extra weight off, my body just laughs at now. After a good few months, I have lost... 3 or 4 lbs that will very quickly bounce back after a night of…

Barley, collard greens, kale, beans... These things are pretty inexpensive and healthy, and can go a long way. Compare the price of a bunch of collard greens to spinach some time. I can darn near eat my weight in sauteed greens. Slice them into strips, sautee in grapeseed oil with lots of diced garlic. Really good. My…

LOVE my Asics. Just got a new pair - my last pair lasted me something like 4 years. The cloth on the sides under the netting wore thin as I have wide feet but the soles were in top shape. Worth the $$.

yeahhhh....... no.

Well I don't LOVE it - but I like it. I love my Polar F60 HRM, which I wear when I work out. My Fitbit flex I wear 24/7 and have had it for a little over 2 weeks now. I think it's pretty accurate and so far trust the calorie count it's giving me. Myfitnesspal integrates nicely with it via a tracker app, so I only have to…

Love New Rules of Weightlifting - it's a great way to start, and of course with the internet you can find videos of anything to show you proper form. Please don't be intimidated by the weight room. Nobody is judging you, nobody cares, everybody is there to do their own thang. The only time anybody pays attention to anybody…

I just got my Fitbit Flex a week ago, and was going to return it (what? A fancy pedometer with software? ugh) until I realized that it will sync up with your Myfitnesspal stats. Go to Apps on myfitnesspal menu - you'll see the Fitbit tracker. You are supposed to log all food and exercise in Myfitnesspal, not the Fitbit…

I am a water GUZZLER. If it was a competition I would beat everyone. :) Try using mental imagery - take a big long slug of water and imagine a beautiful, clean, clear stream flowing over the parched earth - because essentially, that's what's going on inside your body. By the time you actually feel thirst, you are already…

Chipotle is a calorie bomb. A yummy yummy calorie bomb that's even better when you use tortilla chips to scoop it up. It's just one of those things that I plan for and eat half of.

NoVA here. But I love Richmond, such a great city. I keep hoping to go to Comfort on a day when I can really eat and see what $25 meatloaf is all about. :)
-
I've struggled with that myself. I lift heavy weights like a monster but then I eat like a crazy lady. I gain muscle but don't lose fat. I'm about to "hit it" again on Sunday so I'm trying to figure this out myself. Will wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.

LOL get some weight lifting gloves. Don't touch your face during your workout. When you are done, make pealing off those gloves and washing your hands thoroughly (hot water, soap, 30 seconds just like your mom taught you) priority #1. Took me 2 colds to figure that one out! My current set of gloves is 6 months old and they…

It might be more... comfortable to understand the point she's trying to make if she didn't keep using the word "fatty".

For me (5'4, 162lb, muscular) it's around 10lbs. Just kind of depends. I would also rather have to sell off the first dress because it I'm just so darned fit now that it hangs off me! ;)
-
Add me as well please. I lift weights and work out like a demon, but a recent food binge gained me 7 lbs when I was hoping to loose at least 20! Now all my favorite pants are tight around the middle. 5'4, 157lbs. :(

I didn't look at your diary, just read the entire thread. You've gotten so much good advice to chew on - I have another for you: Prepare & plan. Sounds like you have to rely on fast food and less than healthy snacks due to a busy schedule. Is there one day a week where you could cook in large batches, and eat off the meals…

Only after a hard night out with the girls, dahlink. ;)

Thanks all, good advice here. I don't want to bother with the bands - I either have the strength to do it, or I don't and need to build it. I don't need to hog the one good apparatus for this at my gym slinging myself up & down on a rubber band if I can't actually do the damned thing. There are people there waiting to…

I haven't put anything on a banned list, but I am much, much more aware of the caloric and nutritional content of pretty much everything I love to eat. Really helps to make smarter choices.

Seconding the New Rules of Weightlifting for Women, as well as hiring a trainer at the gym to help you get started if you are a little wary of the equipment on the "heavy" side of the weight room. Once you start, you'll also learn a lot just from watching others.

I'm right there with you. I'm 5'4, 149lbs, and have been lifting 2 to 3x a week for the last year. I definitely lost a couple sizes, but damn I love good food and wine. My goal for this year is to get religious about going to the gym, and fine-tune the calorie deficit in order to get rid of the fat. Feel free to friend me.

Not. Slimfast, etc, is marketed on the idea that you can control your calories by replacing one or two meals a day with a pre-made shake. That's really not sustainable - the very idea of living like that makes me want to gnaw off my own arm and eat it. As soon as you stop, you will regain any weight you lost. In my house,…
