  • A Snickers bar eaten with Diet Coke cancel out the calories. Broken cookies are less fattening due to calorie "leakage". OK these are old jokes but just as stupid as "muscle weighs more than fat".
  • I guess it depends on your definition of "cheat". I call it a Bonus Meal. It keeps me on track because I can always promise myself that if I want something I just have to wait for my Bonus Meal to have it. No food is off limits. I just limit that food to the Bonus Meal. Pizza, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, chocolate cake,…
  • Where a "cheat" day can derail you is if your "diet" is so unsustainable that you can't survive without cheating you have chosen the wrong diet and it won't last. Your cheating will.
  • You're right, BMR is a theoretical number that is the best guess of how many calories your body would need to survive if you were in a coma. If you do not ingest that number of calories your body will take it from the calories you already have on board, your fat stores. If you have no fat, your body will metabolize muscle.
  • You sure about that? Calorie deficit is you burn more than you consume thus your body has to find another source for the necessary calories, so it looks to your fat stores.
  • I knew there was something not quite right about that show. Thanks ChrisStPeter. So the fatty has to wait three months for the trainer to pack on a few role-playing pounds then they both lose them together for the entertainment value of a contrived-reality show?
  • Saddam Hussein was still alive and Twitter was just being born. A lot has changed in 10 years. Stop living in the past.
  • Well, you're getting about what you would expect with such sloppy food tracking.
  • Yeah, the Fitbit Charge HR is a wrist mounted HR monitor that is fairly accurate. You press the button on the side to activate an exercise "session" then press the button when you're done. Not the best for strength training but good for steady state cardio. It links to MFP and automatically gives you more calories for the…
  • Depends on who you want to listen to. Giant cereal manufacturing company, strangers on the internet or your own body. I love breakfast food (bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy etc.) but don't normally want to start eating until later in the day. Once I start eating I wake the munchie monster up and keep wanting to snack. I'm not…
  • I guess third time's the charm!
  • Weather out here can be challenging for sure. I'm in the Seattle area and I just went snow shoeing at Snoqualmie Pass a couple of weeks ago. 2 1/2 hours of fun and a great calorie burn. I like to geocache as an excuse to get out in nature. I'm also a bike trail rider. I now have a fitbit Charge HR and have synced to MFP.…
  • Put in the effort to get it right/accurate once then it comes up as a recent food item just click the box and you have it all simple for the next time.
  • How do you get it to do that? I log my food on MFP but it doesn't cross over to fitbit.
  • Safeway Kitchens (house brand) is surprisingly good Caesar dressing. You can thin it down with a little water to make it easier to spread through your salad. Yum.
  • Thanks, OP for a very thought provoking thread. Really brought out some insightful and heartfelt comments. I too, believe I am grieving the loss of ever being able to eat THAT WAY. The full out eating with abandon and denial of the consequences. Eating because I can, because it's there, when no one's looking because that…
  • Moderation. A little bit o' butter, a little bit o' salt. I continue to love my food and continue to lose weight.
  • Thank you, THANK YOU for these totally awesome suggestions to a very annoying problem!
  • https://www.fitbit.com/user/49jbqc or https://www.fitbit.com/user/49JBQC A little experiment here. Wow! Using lowercase letters takes me to Jason, using uppercase takes me to me!
  • I get the "math" of it. Exercise doesn't burn off near as many calories as we like to tell ourselves we can eat back. I watch "The Biggest Loser" for the entertainment value. It is a big mistake, however, to try to take any meaningful advice from that show. Emphasize SHOW. It is a production that is edited to make it seem…
  • I am working to keep from having knee surgery. My modest weight loss is already starting to show benefits by making it easier to walk and do stairs. Down is definitely harder than up. And for you post op people, keep up with those ROM exercises. I see people having manipulation under anesthesia to get back that all…
  • This is the wrong site to be promoting a fad woo-filled "diet". So many of us have been there done that and know it is a marketing ploy to only rid you of excess cash it just doesn't tempt us anymore. For those still seeking miracles, move along, this is NOT Magic Fitness Pal.
  • Thanks everyone for your comments. That was fun!
  • Hey, thanks for your comments. I may have to just accept that even "normal" people measure and watch their food intake and I can do it too.
  • Exactly! On a work day, I'll have breakfast at 0815, lunch at 1430, dinner at 1730, a snack at 2230, a late snack at 0100. Sleep til 1000 the next day, not eat until a snack at 1400, eat dinner when wife cooks at 1800.
  • I am trying to learn better eating habits. At some point along the line, hopefully by the time I get to a maintenance weight, I will have a habit of eating proper portions and selecting more healthy choices. Right now I am really working at weighing, measuring and reading labels. I am also trying to notice how different…
  • I get the already cut up stuff in light syrup. Spoon out a portion and mix with pineapple for really tasty/sweet treat.
  • I could've just said what this guy said.
  • NEVER! I call it a bonus meal and look forward to having one every week or so. With that as part of my meal plan I never have to say "I can never have that (BBQ, fried chicken, pizza, chocolate cake, whateva) again!" and go into "poor pitiful me I'm on a diet" mode. My lifestyle includes all foods. I just have to modify…
  • I really like to listen to tunes while cranking out on the elliptical. I keep time with the music and set it to strides per minute. I like music that is 124-134 beats per minute. It's kinda like dancing. When I have ear buds in I gotta remember to silently sing along. Everybody knows what I'm doing but nobody wants to hear…
